Happy Birthday, Jim. What's all the wet weather doing to lawn & garden equipment sales? Anything?

It's been so wet around here there has been virtually no little league baseball.

Working on some stuff this morning with the Beverly Hillbillies on the tube. The show's greatness has not diminished with time. The episodes covered the period where Granny and Jethro get involved with a bunch of hipsters until Jed pays off the head hippy. I don't know where the humor of the show resonates, but it ties into something. It's the best of the mid-60s silly shows like Green Acres, Gomer Pyle USMC (Frank Sutton may be one of the best characters ever) etc. (I don't include Gilligan's island) As a class, much better than the vapid crap (ex-Three's Company, Welcome Back Kotter) or overly self aware "relevant" snoozers (ex-Movin' On Up, Alice, One Day at a Time) to follow.

Haha.

I think Emma got some Beverly Hillbillies on disc for Christmas last year. I recall her saying in her very deliberate, matter of fact voice, "each one is funnier than the one before it."

So the second Blagojevich trial is underway and during the jury selection one guy was tossed for being a Beverly Hillbillies fan, but Blago wanted to keep him in:

How could anyone not be a fan of the Hillbillies. They're just so ridiculous.

Happy Birthday Jim. Go rent the HIllbillies and enjoy an evening in front of the TV.

Happy birthday, Jim. I hope you do have a deereific day. If you were here I would faun over you. You and the beautiful Jane Doe beside you there. I would give you each a buck.

Happy birthday Jim.

The first dog we had that I can remember was named Ellie May. I also remember when, as a young child, I asked Ed to tell me a story. He patted the couch beside him and when I sat down to listen, he solemnly began...
"Here's a little story, about a man named Jed..."

I'm sure the story was followed up by a massagie.

Yesterday, of course, was Star Wars day-"May the 4th be with you."

I think you gotta throw in "I Dream of Jeanie" when talking about top sitcoms of that era. Brilliant premise - an uptight bureaucracy (NASA) as the backdrop to a pair of goofy servicemen and a ditzy genie. The eye candy was just the icing on the cake. I believe she wore a sheer, flesh tone fabric to cover her scandalous navel.

"You've really done it this time, Jeanie! Get back in your bottle."

"But, Master!..."

In today's news...

WASHINGTON - Elvis has left the list.

Ending a run that started in 1955, Elvis did not make the list of 1,000 most popular baby names compiled by the Social Security Administration. The name never topped the charts, peaking at No. 312 in 1957 and making a slight comeback after Elvis Presley died in 1977. But The King's first name was in the top 1,000 for 55 straight years, something that cannot be said for, say, Barack, which has never cracked the list.

"I was all shook up," Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue said. "It's been a tradition tracking his ups and downs, and to see him drop off the top 1,000, I have to be honest, we took that very hard at Social Security."
