Betty pitched for the varsity last nite for the first time, going in in relief with 1 out and a runner on first in the last inning. One pitch-a liner caught by the 1st baseman who doubled the runner off 1st and the inning over. That was it. She oughta retire now.
Joe, Tom and Peter are off to St. Louis to watch a Cardinals game. (Peter skipped his last day of school) Good thing we got Cardinals spring training hats when we were Florida. Look for them in the stands tonight if you are watching the game. Monica
Nike has a gallery opening this Friday eve. from 5-7 in Algona. He had a nice write-up in the paper and has been on the radio. I think he will get a turn out. You are all invited!! He already sold a small one for $700. !! We have great wine and food at the opennings.
Carter Lake is having a town meeting tonight to talk about possible evacuation of the entire town. Council Bluffs has evacuated and shut off power to several low-lying areas on the outskirts of town but the fire chief is sounding like he expects big areas of the city to be under water within the next month. Hamburg IA has evacuated and they're sandbagging along the riverfront in Sioux City. Niobrara will probably be cut off. It's not looking too good.
The ground here is saturated so that trees are tipping over. Not breaking. Just tipping over with their giant root balls above ground as the force of a fulcrum acts.
Well, the news says that Carter Lake thinks its levees are sufficient but we'll find out about June 17. Stevo and I walked across the pedestrian bridge last night and the Muddy Missouri looks more like the Mighty Mississippi, with lots of deadfall floating down lifted from shoreline woods by the flooding. The Coast Guard has closed the river to boating because its crazy out there, all kinds of logs and branches in the water and little whirlpools everywhere. Harrah's lower parking lot is almost all under water and I guess Ameristar's is also. I have never seen so many people on the bridge. I'm guessing when the big water release comes from Gavins Point in mid-June, it'll be like a festival up on the bridge.
Just because I'm miserable and it's Josh Grobin's fault I thought I would share my misery. I can't get his drippiest of drippy songs out of my head.
Happy Monday Tom

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas; I am strong, when I am on your shoulders; You raise me up... To more than I can be.
Saw Mia's first T-ball game last night in 97 degree heat. They quit after 3 innings, thank God. She played catcher (T-ball catcher, tee-hee!) and also that second shortstop between 1st and 2nd you see in these games. She's very good at putting the ball on the tee, and she catches pretty well too. Good at trapping grounders. 2 nice hits, started running toward 3rd once but got turned around toward first and still made it. Oscar absolutely does not understand why they wouldn't be delighted to have him play with them. He has a glove and everything. It was still about 90 at 10:30PM.

Kind of weird.

That's the sort of thing that set Archimedes to thinkin'
We still have stuff in a storage unit in Carter Lake!!!!
I couldn't find the story on Mike online in the algona paper.

Sometimes it's good not to remember lyrics to any songs.
Mike's art show opening reception went really well...we had a great crowd. It was a 3 box night!
Weinergate - this stuff practically writes itself.

Congrats, Mike!
