What's your favorite meal?

lately it's spring rolls, and pad thai (stir fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, green onion, shredded cabbage, radish, ground peanut, tofu and egg). been on a thai food kick lately, and Sa-Bai Thong delivers...

Yes I like thai food too. I have to say, for me it is pizza. How juvenile is that? The thing is, every type of pizza is different. Frozen vs. dominos, traditional thin crust vs. deep dish. Fancy goat cheese with proscuitto vs sausage and pepperoni...taco pizza.....
I NEVER GET SICK OF IT

Stroganoff.

RAndy and I used to keep a top ten list....it had to involve food, atmosphere, etc., most of them involved Ireland. Can't remember the list, though.

homemade mac-n-cheese with chrunchies on the top. Or egg drop soup and gerneral tso's chicken.

Anonymous said...

What's a CH-runchie?

When we were little, Mom would let us choose our favorite meal for our birthdays....mine was porcupine meatballs or hamburger pie! When we got older they would take only the birthday kid out to dinner, it was great! Now, I like Indian food and Greek ALOT, but I also like a really good steak on the grill with homemade mac'n cheese.

Spagetti and meatballs with pepperoni chunks in the sauce and garlic bread and beer or Coke. Oh, and salad, but I just eat that to get to the reward of the spagetti. I'm SUCH a good girl...

Anonymous said...

Oooh, I like this subject. Breakfast. Mmmmm...

Anonymous said...

pork chops and applesauce.

Anonymous said...

I like hufu in a jello mold.

THere is this place nearby that has a tofu scramble on the menu and it is REALLY good. it's at a bowling alley that serves breakfast. It's curried eggs with tofu and spinach. quite yummy.

Tonight I'm putting on a Seder (Passover)meal for about 200 people. I made or am making stewed beef (can't afford lamb), tabbouleh, charoset, maror, flatbread and Karpas. Gotta go put out the haggadas.

there's a bar in town that every sunday morning has smut-n-eggs. they play naughty movies on the tv's and serve a full breakfast meal.

Anonymous said...

Frank likes smut-n-eggs!

Anonymous said...

but the most delicious meal is the tiger, stuffed inside a shark, stuffed inside an elephant and baked until tender and a delicious golden brown....

Anonymous said...

actually, while they have an excellent fry-cook, i find the whole smut-n-eggs thing a little disturbing.

Anonymous said...

grits with butter. lots!!!

Anonymous said...

grilled tuna, its the only fish i can eat.

frog legs are delicious

Anonymous said...

a nice batch of endangered tortise eggs fried up and served with a platypus steak. yum!

Fish tacos at a Jamaican restaurant in Manhattan, KS was one of my most memorable meals in the last few years.

But it's hard not to pick Thanksgiving as my favorite meal. There's something satisfying about eating yourself into a stupor. And then while you're falling asleep you know the leftover turkey sandwich is just waiting for you to eat it. Waiting.

It's hard to designate a favorite meal, better than all others. Answers are tilted toward what you're in the mood for. Right now some red beans and rice with grilled andouille sausage sounds pretty good. So does a hot tukey sandwich. So does the veal parmesan from that italian place in Omaha. I've been eating lotsa pot pies lately. Yummy

Anonymous said...

By the way, wouldn't you consider frog legs to be fish? I'd hate to open up a whole class of cuisine called "amphibians" as in "Hey, lets go hit that new amphibian restaurant tonight." I guess you could just call it French food because, with the exception of extremely primative groups, the french eat some of the most disgusting things on earth. Also, when you're really, really hungry and you need a meal to absolutely destroy and annihilate the appetite, it's hard to beat a massive frontal assault by German food. Big on big.

A really good Philly Cheese steak sandwich. MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmm

Snake surprise and chilled monkey brains.

"Indy" must be Joe 3 'cuz the boys have had that at his house before!

Tater Tots and Grilled Cheese.

Yum!

Anonymous said...

brats and deep fried cheese curds.

Joe K loves grilled cheese and tomato soup. I love almost all food except things with lots of foods with cream sauce. Oddly, I love creamed peas.

Steak fajitas with fresh guacamole and spicy salsa and warm tortilla chips and a nice tangy lime margarita with chunky salt on the rim of the glass. Or, fresh polish sausage and kraut with pierogies fried in butter served with cold beer and rye bread.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of tasty food, what are the Easter plans for everyone?
Monica

Anonymous said...

I just had a t-bone steak from the grill, a sweet potato, and tomato salad with blue cheese and sweet onion! It was great...but I agree with Joe, it's hard to say what's a favorite...I always think I could be a vegetarian, but I was gnawing on the t-bone.
Jerry Garcia's toilet was stolen from a driveway where it was about to be shipped to a buyer from a on line auction, the cops said they don't have a clue, they have nothing to go on.

Anonymous said...

Pat...I must have missed something from an earlier blog...were you invited to a childless party at Chuckie Cheese?

Anonymous said...

I am headed to Whittemore for Easter, anyone else going?

Ed X said...

Yes - I heard about Jerry Garcia's toliet being stolen. It was auctioned to a casino who was going to display it (so that casio goes could have a very visual display of where their money is going).

Interesting - Bill Walton is a suspect. He is an avid Grateful Dead fan and Jerry Garcia collector. He owns several Garcia items (including a vial of Jerry Garcia bongwater) and was seen in Sonoma county coffee shop the day of the theft (the place of the crime). We have motive and opportunity. He is GUILTY.

Back to food, my favorite subject. Mom & Dad's spaghetti and meatballs. No one else's except Aunt Ginny's is good, too. Other than that, I JUST LOVE FOOD. A nice pork loin with pork gravy, mashed potatoes cooked with onions and loaded with butter (and that gravy) together with sweet and sour red cabbage. MMM. A nicly grilled rib eye. And salad just like candy. Also really gooy monkey bread

Ok-
Insufferable Mom moment.
News about my kids.

Last night after the girls were in bed (together), Mary came downstairs and said, "I was reading my book, when SUDDENLY Emma kicked me with her foot."

And while walking through the mall we observed a toddler on her mom's lap. The little girl was crying while getting her ears pierced. I told the girl what they were doing and Emma said, "That must be her stepmother."

Anonymous said...

Ha! Too funny. :-)

P. Rose said...

OK, that second story is just awesome. Shows the power of Disney.

Yes, the Homemade spaghetti and meatballs. I agree.

Anonymous said...

How about Tom's Decatur Pork Chops with tons of other food brought by family members and all the beer you can swill?

Anonymous said...

Lisa - a gift you have given your children is that they think they live in a fairy tale world, a world where anything could happen. At any moment a toad could hop up to them and start speaking, and they would know just what to do. They are ready! What a good way to live.

Anonymous said...

Tom has, always, said that his Mom's Spaghetti is his favorite!

You know those cookies in the grocery store that you probably wouldn't buy in a hundred years, in a plastic package with putrid pink or yellow or green or blue frosting with sprinkles? I had one yesterday, in a low-blood-sugar, haven't-eaten-all-day situation, and it was the best cookie ever. Now I think I'm going to have to buy a package to see if they really are that good. For Easter, for the kids, of course.

Anonymous said...

You're right! They're awesome...kinda like a cake...the boys told me. :-)

P. Rose said...

I've always loved those cookies. Nothing putrid a bout them except their appearance. Aren't they called circus cookies or osmething? Or am i thinking of the peanuts?

Anonymous said...

You may be thinkin' of, "circus," cookies...but, I'm thinking of the ones in the bakery.

I do LOVE circus cookies...my friend Jackie and I use to eat the whole bag, together, in one sitting!

Anonymous said...

those cookies are great. and i hate sugar cookies. it's the frosting i think.

As a youth I once ate half a bag of crunchy cheetos and threw up. The sight of the giant cheeto makes my stomach shrivel.

Anonymous said...

Jim Beam does the same for me.

Anonymous said...

ever since Pete's wedding i can't take the smell of tequila... haven't had a margarita since.

Anonymous said...

I've become so old...that, Margaritas give me heart-burn. That sucks.

Ed X said...

Use better Tequila.

Anonymous said...

Oh, hey...I'll try that! Thanks. :-)

Yah know, Margaritas are best when made with Grand Marnier(sp?).

Anonymous said...

Vodka and olive juice...yummy! I think I'll go to a fish fry tonight!

Anonymous said...

When I wqas at Eby's Pines every day I had a bag of Cheetos and a can of Red Lightning (red creram soda) I still don't buy Cheetos because I can't stop eating 'em

Anonymous said...

Anyone ever had a Cheese Frenchie?

Anonymous said...

Cheese Frenchies - I never heard of them till I moved to CB and they're dying out even here. Processed cheese on white bread, dipped in a sweet batter and deep-fried. The only way they could be worse for you is if they had bacon. When they're good, they're very, very good and when they're not, they might kill you. I've only ever had two, one good, one bad.

Anonymous said...

Cheese Frenchie's are awesome and soooo decadent, served with spicy fries! Have it once a year, in Omaha Don and Millie's has the best, also Mama's pizza serves them. It would make a great last meal (with vodka and olive juice) if you were sentenced to death or in Taliban custody.

Anonymous said...

Cathy, I love Cheetos too. I couldn't stand them when I was a kid. We can split a bag some day and then not feel so guilty about eating the whole thing.

Cheese Frenchies sound gross to me.

Monica

Anonymous said...

Cheese Frenchies are gross, but in a good way, like so many other pleasures.

Anonymous said...

Hey, this isn't about eating per se, but is there anything that smells better than corn dogs and funnel cakes at the fair?

Anonymous said...

Nothing.

Anonymous said...

Stevo's favorite dinner (I was surprised): roasted chicken, baked potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was what he always requested for his birthday as a kid.

Anonymous said...

Peanut: Is your favorite food peanuts? Or big beef?

Em: I am sooo jealous. what else did you do in Italy besides eat?

Anonymous said...

Hey Big Cheeto: I pledge $50 for the food pantry. I can't send it till Monday, though. Good luck with the auction. I'm going to sign Anonymous because I'm getting a little embarrassed about posting so many times on the food subject.

I think you should name each dish after a family member, like,
Mary Caryl's famous spaghetti or Pat's beautiful anything.
What kind of favorite meal is that, Stevo?

Anonymous said...

Mary's Mussels.
Joe's Jumbalya.
Patsy's Pork Chops.
Cathy's Cajun Catfish.
Stevo's Salsa'd Salmon.
Monica's Monkey Marinara.
