Unrelated to Pat's Post...I heard something funny today.

"If you can't be a good example...then, you'll have to be a horrible warning."

is that your new personal philosophy, Nance?

Don's fortune cookie, last night, read:

The boys thought that was cool!

I just used the phrase "fairly insular" and I didn't really even know what I was talking about. I was part of a team interviewing this new v.p for academic affairs and he asked me a question I didn't know how to answer.

OK, I missed all the food talk. We just got back from ROme. And let me tell you about the food. We did not go to any fancy restaurants, but still, Oh MY .. ..THE FOOD!!! I think that Pat can attest to the fact that Italian food is not my fave. I like it, but I don't go nuts over it or anything. But in Italy, just the simplest things were so goooood. I ate mozz and tomato salad every day (caprese) and pasta with mushrooms, basil and stewed tomatoes. So simple, but for some reason, so good. Maybe it was enhanced by the fact that we were on vacation or maybe because we are sick of Macedonia, I don't know. But again, we did not eat in any fancy places, but the ingredients were fresh and that makes a huge difference.

As for my favorite food, yes pizza is up there, like Joe K. I love tomato soup and grilled cheese, but sometimes a really good steak is the best food in the world. I love Indian and Greek food and MExican food. That's the great thing about food, there's so much of it and so many varieties.

Why didn't you say, "I'm the one asking questions here!"

academics have affairs?

P. Rose said...

That would have been the exactly correct response for mr. fancy pants. And, well, apparently not as many affairs as happened in the 60s 70s and 80s.

judas priest! Interesting it's coming out now.

P. Rose said...

oh my god i am sooooo bored today.

Anonymous said...

This should come as a welcomed relief! You've been soooo busy! Try to embrace this boredom and become, "one," with it. :-)

Perhaps, a good time to plan your garden? Get out some drawing paper and look on the internet for plants that do well in your zone and with your shade/sun exposure. Yah think?

I'm still really busy. Just not doing any of it at this minute.

I instituted a new rule this week in my office. Whenever the boss is gone for a full week and I'm boss, my employee and I each take an afternoon or morning off.

so am i(bored). Its cloudy here. any time now I believe itwill rain.

I, too, can find boredom in the midst of a busy time. Weird, eh?

The Gnostics were a breakaway sect of Christians who maybe settled in Egypt and became confused with the Coptic Christians there, or maybe were the original Coptics. There's a huge Coptic library that was discovered in the Egyptian desert that rivals the Dead Sea Scrolls and this document may have been part of it. The Gnostics were considered heretical - in fact, John's gospel almost didn't make it into the New Testament because it had gnostic overtones. I heard a story on NPR yesterday about this document. Pretty interesting. It could be a sort of "Da Vinci Code" of the third or fourth century. By then, thanks to Constantine, Christianity had become the state religion all over what had been the Roman Empire, with all the attendant abuses that entails, and there were bound to be dissident factions. Anyway, I cant wait to read it - I think this month's Nat'l Geographic has exerpts.

Isn't the grass, "too tender," to rake? Certainly, your thumb was! Poor Mary! :-(

Poor, poor Judas,
your unquiet rest now broken
by new sensation.

P.rose, your new rule makes perfect sense. Give up needless imprisonment for Lent. It's not too late!

P. Rose said...

Tom, aren't you the one who was talking to me about the alternative gospels, showing a curiosity beyond vague dismissal? I believe you were the very one. In fact I know it.
