Happy birthday, Joe!

If helping to celebrate means going to Fairway and making tuna and noodles for dinner, we will be helping you celebrate.

Remember that ugly ND sweatshirt you had that listed any national championship ND had ever won all over it? Maybe you should find yourself a new one of those for your birthday.

Cheers,
lisa

He's waiting for ND to win a national championship again!! (stupid Michigan!)

Happy Birthday Joe! I used to have one of those t-shrts and I don't remember it being ugly. How will you celebrate?

I don't know who Jude is hanging out with at school but today he came home and said, "You know ponies are dumb and Dora is dumb too." I don't remember him ever using the word dumb before. And I can see Dora, but what's wrong with ponies?

Anonymous said...

They're dumb.

frank said...

i used to work with a gal we called the showpony, she wasn't too bright.

happy birthday Joe.

Happy Birthday Joe. Pointing isn't polite. Stop pointing at me.

Have a beer or two. I'll have one or two as well, and toast to your health.

Maybe Jude meant Pretty Ponies are dumb.

I bet some girls wouldn't let Jude or his friends play with the ponies, so they automatically become dumb. At least they aren't f-ing dumb or anything.

Some other funny things overheard at my work: There is an 87 year old lady who volunteers in the infant room at my work that everyone calls Grandma. She is very small, pale, and almost deaf. The other day she was standing outside my classroom window someone asked, "Is that a ghost." Truthfully, I got a little freaked out thinking they could really see a ghost because the building use to be a nursing home, then I saw Grandma. That was funny enough, but a few days later Grandma walked through the three year old classroom and one of them said, "There goes that ghost again." Luckily she can't hear unless you yell at her.

Happy Birthday, Joe4.

So who is going to the game this weekend?

des said...

Joe, happy birthday!

I hope the Irish bring home a giant present for you this weekend.

ellen said...

Ekk, I meant Joe3. But I guess it fits in with the other typos in my posts.

So Joe, whadya do last night?

Cook something yummy? Go out for a drink?

joe3 said...

Many thanks for the kind wishes. I had a great day. Betty made a chocolate/chocolate cake and the kids gave me a motorized rotisserie for my gas grill. Now that's a great gift. I went to Sarah's for a quick drink and was informed by staff that Tom and Nance had told them anything I wanted was on them. With that unexpected green light, I embarked on a shameful display of consumption, conspicuous in its duration and notable for the gallons of beverage swilled washing it down. Further than feeling full, past satiation, beyond bloating and still going. Corpulent, unsteady, eyes glazed, still going. Biting and chewing and drinking and burping and going through napkin after napkin and still going. Chick parm with a couple side steaks, pork ribs, gravy, bread, soup and a salad (to be healthy, you know).

Not really, Just got an order to go and drank with Mike and Mary and whoever stopped at the table. My present to me was 20 pairs of identical black dress socks.

It was really fun when he put on all 20 socks!

Pfizer Inc (PFE) today announced that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission terminated the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, with respect to Pfizer’s pending acquisition of Wyeth. In addition, Pfizer has received approval from the Canadian Competition Bureau for the pending acquisition.

With the receipt of these clearances, Pfizer has now satisfied the regulatory approval requirements under the merger agreement to complete the acquisition of Wyeth. Pfizer expects to close the transaction on October 15, 2009.

What time is the Ia State game and when do people plan to arrive to tailgate?

joe j said...

The game starts at 6. I think the tailgate should start around 1.

m.e. said...

That overtime score is impossible, right?

c said...

Not if ND kicks a winning field goal in OT and USC failed to get one of their extra points. Is there an impossible score? Besides 10 million to three or something?

c said...

I guess it's impossible to have a score of 1.

Anonymous said...

What goes in porcupine meatballs? Meat and rice? Anything else? And they just simmer in tomato soup?

Anonymous said...

Game tied at 31 at end of regulation. USC gets ball first and kicks a field goal. ND scores a touchdown AND kicks the extra point (just to stick it to USC).

c said...

Chopped onions, seasonings, chopped green peppers if desired. Porcupine meatballs, mmmmmmm.

Anonymous said...

Don't use minute rice... it will turn to mush.

I thought the extra point was pointless...but they do kick, is that right?

Talked to Mom and Dad yesterday afternoon...it was about 10p.m. in Ireland, they were at the Lantern House! Had a wonderful dinner,of course. The night before they were in Dingle and had a very fancy dinner and then went to _____, can't think of the name (where we all went) and listened to Irish music untill closing, they sat with the owner, who is a friend. It sounds like they're having a wonderful trip.
It's not O'Connor's, the other pub, it's Gatt's..is that right?

em said...

Mary, thanks for the Mom and Dad updates.

If you're on facebook, sorry I'm repeating myself. But anyway...the grocery delivery place delivers beer and stamps. Just got my delivery. IT's the best thing in the world. Their slogan is something like"Do a two hour errand in 15 minutes" and it's so true. And I just ripped all the wallpaper from the bathroom. I'm quite proud of myself.

Wyeth jumped up to as high as 50.40 today. No more selling after today's closing bell. Now we wait for Pfizer to send us money?

been there said...

McGann's?

m.e. said...

That's right!

It's sooo crappy out but my day is brighter 'cause Rush Limbaugh can't own slaves, right?

Anonymous said...

When will Pfizer send us money?

Anonymous said...

I already got mine.

Anonymous said...

Not soon enough.

1 pm sounds about right. Going to the grass lot next to the creek east of the stadium? should we try to meet and drive in together so we're all together? if so, what's the rally point? what time?

This morning I was telling Liam that his game tommorow was in Spirit Lake.

He got a very serious look on his face. Initially, I misread this look as somewhat fearful. At this level Spirit Lake always fields a tough team. In fact, like Liam's team they are undefeated.

Last year Eli, while at full back took a vicious but legal hit from Spirit Lake. I thought for sure his leg was broken as I saw it happen. It was a fullback dive play. Two guys had him wrapped. One guy around each of his calves. Eli was totally immobile. Then some huge man-child of a linebacker (a freakishly big 160 pound 6th grader) came in at full tilt and leveled Eli. Based on the hit and the scream I knew it was broken. Xrays said otherwise. Anyway, Eli missed games and practice and never regained his spot at fullback.

So when Liam looked at me and then asked in a very serious tone if this was the same team that hurt Eli I assumed he was a little fearful.

I went on to explain that it was not going to be the same team exactly because those kids Eli played against were now in middle school and no longer playing in this league.

He said, again very serious, "I know. But I'm still gonna kill those guys because they are probably the younger brothers of the guys that hurt Eli."

Incidently, they have moved him from defensive tackle to linebacker. He has had one practice session at linebacker. I hope he does okay. As a lineman the only had to do one thing. Get in the backfield and make a play. Now he needs to read and react. Kind of counter to his experience and nature. But, the head coach feels that with the type of attack the other team uses he will Be more effective.

Go Liam!

We will be at Ames just a little late due to a.m. piano lessons...
can't wait to see ya'll.

Start e-mailing me your cell phone numbers.

Has anyone heard from Don? He may come for the tailgate - but since we haven't actually connected, I'm not sure.

We (Jayjacks, Richardsons, Reeders) are meeting at Ellen's house around 11 a.m. then heading up to Ames a little after that. I'm not familiar with where the tailgate spot is, so I don't know where a good rally point would be. But we'll have at least two vehicles. Does anybody have a list of who all is coming? This is what I know so far:

Jayjacks
Richardsons
Reeders
Milbraths
Joe 3
Bob and Deb

Who else?

frank said...

Graham, Danny and I are driving down from the twin cities that day.... don't know Ames at all, so if we could know the rally spot that would be great...

There is a Target at the corner of S. 3rd St and S. Duff. Right here:

http://tinyurl.com/ylnowy2

Let's meet in the west end of that parking lot (closest to Duff) at 12:30. Sound good?

ellen said...

Great thinking, Joe! I can't wait to see everyone and eat some good tailgating food.

Frank, just take the Duff Ave exit and head north. Target will be behind a bank on the right side. Right past Walmart.

Are you all going to have a tv at the tailgating?
