Happy Birthday Monica! It looks like you're thinking, "Boys are sooooo stupid." What will your not stupid husband do for you on your birthday?

Musharraf was in Clive IA over the weekend. Is Scott with him?

Happy birthday, Monica!

We celebrated by having a lot of people over for Chinese carryout and singing happy birthday. Oh wait, that was for Mary Laurel, not you.

Anyway, happy day! Maybe little elves will clean the house for you.

What? Are you sure? Scott told me he was in LA and now in Houston. Maybe Scott's not with him anymore. I have no idea.

Happy Day to you Monica!

Happy birthday, Monica!

I watched that Algona Movie trailer. I guess they haven't started shooting yet. It's interesting watching FDR deliver that speech over television. Obviously a great speaker, but you can see that he was accustomed to delivering speeches over the radio. I guess it wasn't until JFK that presidents learned to play to the cameras.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I was quiet birthday. Ellen was home for the weekend.

Ed, I love that picture almost as much as the DOORMAT my husband gave me. Joe is such a romantic.

Peter gave me a beautiful ring.

Monica

em said...

Joe gave you that doormat so you wouldn't have to mop the entryway floor all the time! Very thoughtful.

m.e. said...

Is it a special doormat, does it giggle when you wipe your feet? Does it bark? Sing Happy Birthday?
Is it pretty? Does it hunt?

Mom and Dad are on the road again, singing a soldiers's song...they stopped by to pick up something this a.m., they were all packed up heading for Chicago, smiling big and Irish music blasting from the car!

Check out "The Head of the Rock Regatta" in Rockford, IL online. Joe is rowing in 6th position on the first novice boat for Notre Dame on Sunday. He met a rower his first week at school and is now on the novice (Freshman) team. Says it's a great workout. He gets better times than guys who rowed all through high school. Betty and I are driving over for the day. Hope it doesn't snow.

So, what time will tailgating start? Will there be tailgating? We're kind of thinking about coming down.

Good for Joe 4. Rowing is great exercise.

This is my horoscope today.

Sometimes you remember where you put stuff the night before. Sometimes you don't.

Anonymous said...

Pat, so true! It's freaky.

ellen said...

Of course there will be tailgating. I think it should start around 1 or 2:00. Emily, you should come down! If anyone needs a place to stay in Des Moines, we are open.

Hey Joe3,
Dan O'brien says hello.

Sean ran his best time yet 18 min and 19 seconds. His goal for the the year is 18 15. If they make it to state he'll be there.

Dan O Brien? Did he use to teach at Garrigan?

em said...

Awesome job sean!!!

Anonymous said...

That's awesome Sean. I ran that time too, for 2 miles.
Do they think they'll make state?

Dan O'Brien was a decathlon athlete. How does Joe know him.

Oh, Frank, Bruce Jenner said hey.

SO I got interviewed by the AP this morning on Barak Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I said the Peace Prize givers must have had a pretty thin bench.

Ed...were they out in front of your building, or at the train?? Did you give your name??

I have to go walk dogs in this COLD RAIN!

All, was that a really short fall, or am i nuts?

Monica, you look like you're about to lose it. Have a drink, relax.

Phelan, Get out of the rain!

Why exactly did he win the nobel peace prize? What did he do?

Pat, was Bruce Jenner looking for his step-daughters? Those naughty Kardashian girls..they are currently doing their show from Florida. "Khloe and Kourtney Take Miami" Bruce has a really bad facelift...the show is addicting, don't start!

caitlin said...

mom, you love those kardashians.. i shouldn't have told you about the show!

Anonymous said...

They're just awful people. I too have watched the show more than once. And yes, his facelift is awful too.

It snowed and was windy at soccer this morning. It's only Oct. 10.

MOnica - what network was Ed on?

molly said...

It snowed 4 inches overnight in CB. Oscar thought the veiw out our window was funny. It's going to continue on and off thru the day and night. Brrrrrr

Anonymous said...

I think it was ABC but not positive about that. One of the major ones. CBS or NBC, Not FOX

No hot water this morning. Do we get a new hot water heater or just fix it? It's only 25 years old.

Monica

Anyone else not turn the furnace on yet?

joe j said...

So, who's coming for the ISU game this weekend? Right now, the forecast says it will be mid 50s and clear. Perfect for football and tailgating.

From the small-world department: We just found out that Brianne's cousin Robbie is Joe IV's rowing coach at Notre Dame.

Last week at Generations of Faith as Emma was about to leave the restroom, the girl in front of her was trying to open the door with her shirt. Emma told me she called her a "germ freak" and then confessed it to me about how bad she felt and that she (Emma ) is really the germ freak. I about died laughing. Right there in the front row. So I had to tell Emma that it really wasn't a nice thing to say and that she should try to keep funny but mean comments to herself. Emma really is the germ freak - surprised she saw it in herself.

lisa

Anonymous said...

Oh - and Emma has shingles now.

lisa

Anonymous said...

How did the rowing go? And did Sean get to state in cc?

Poor Emma. I heard shingles are painful.

p

Anonymous said...

Are they sure it's shingles? She's awfully young tho get shingles.

So the plumber came and fixed my water heater which is living on borrowed time. He said when it comes time to replace it they will have to tear out a wall because when they finished the basement they didn't leave enough room between the furnace and wall passage way to get the heater through. At least it didn't happen today.

Joe4's boat broke a record for this meet...but they came in 2nd, Michigan was 1st.

Joe 3, you're either crazy or very thrifty or both. One thing's for sure - you're cold. Are you wearing your footie pjs?

Joe J. THanks for the weather report. I still can't make up my mind. I want to go but then the reality of chasing around kids while I'm trying to have fun just doesn't sound that fun. Jude would be fine and Finn is still pretty easy as long as it's not cold. Sam is the hard one. Where does the tailgating take place? Sorry to be a whiny pain.

At Sam's check up today he measured 90% height and 15%tile weight. ANd the doctor said, "I can see he is one of those very demanding toddlers." The Dr. also pretty much said that he wouldn't get the kids the Swine flu vaccine. Then went on to explain that the big worry is that the Avian flu will some how merge with the swine flu in Egypt and become much more easily transmitted. (Is that the right word?)So you'll have the much more deadly avian flu and the very contagious swine flu merged into one bad bad super bug. IF that happens it would be better if you've already been exposed to swine flu. So the Kennedys are in good shape.

Dad and Mom gave us their tix to the Bishop's dinner in Sioux City last evening...they honored 6 teachers from the whole diocese and 2 were from Garrigan, Mike Stence and Steve Brosnan, it was very fancy, Brosnan had the best speech...Anyway Cardinal Dinardo was the main speaker, beforehand during the cocktail hour he wasn't swarmed by people for a moment, so I went up to him and said, "I believe you know my Dad, Deacon Joe Straub" and he went on the rave about Dad! I've never talked to a Cardinal before...Mike said I may have committed a cardinal sin cause I didn't address him properly!!

m.e. said...

I mean Brosnan's was the best of the teachers, Dinardo's talk was so cool. it was based entirely on one of his favorite paintings, a Caravaggio in Rome called "The Calling of St Matthew"...he tied in the brush strokes and color and light with the profession of teaching, it was very nice! Mikey liked it!

Em,

This is where we tailgate:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=34075580&id=16906965

Doesn't it look exciting? But really, we don't tailgate in the main lot with all the students, it's a little farther away from the stadium. But it's a lot easier to get in and out of.
