Jude has had a cough for several weeks and last night a high fever. The ped line was busy for 45 minutes and now I finally got a line but was informed that there were 14 callers ahead of me. How long will I be on hold?
Happy birthday Eli (my fellow birthday date person), happy birthday Tom and Mely and all who had birthdays in October.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. As you all know we were in Indiana over the weekend and did not get back until Monday night and I haven't had a chance to visit the blob until now so just now reading them. Thanks again, it is greatly appreciated.
We had a great time in Ind visiting my Mom and family and then meeting up with Mom and Dad Straub and going to the ND game. All perfectly capped off with a ND win and dinner after the game at Little Italy. Who could ask for more?
Happy halloween to everyhbody and I hope we have Booutiful weather for all the kids.
Molly and Brian had to take Mia to the emergency room night before last because her fever got so high. The bright side is, all three have now had H1N1. I asked her how the hospital was - did she have to wait a long time, etc. and she said "No, I got in right away and they gave me the pink medicine and the orange medicine and I peed in a cup and that was pretty much it."
Yesterday was my turn to wait in line for the HINI vaccinations for my children.
The doors to public health opened at the Council Bluffs National Guard Armory at 2 P.M. Emma, Mary and I were there at 11. We had chairs, lunch, homework, and chapter books with us.
When I got there, People were waiting in cars so I went up to see where we could wait. The National Guard said: We didn't know this was happening until Sunday... I don't know where you can set up. But you cannot wait inside. We set up outside and they promptly moved us (to what turned out to be a better spot). A little while later - after about 100 more people showed up to wait, I noticed that kids were playing on the microwave tower that was next to our line. Big tower, big electrical cord, kids waving the cord, climbing the tower, etc. I let my children know they weren't even to be on the cement pad the tower was on. After a bit I went in to tell the Guard that kids were climbing over their tower and etc and that it was dangerous and they had to do something about it. They looked at each other and said, "I don't know what do do." Later one person came out and told the kids (not their parents) to stay off the tower. So of course, kids were all over that tower all day. One man had his kid on a leash and took the kid up to the tower where the toddler swung upon the electrical cord that was as big as my upper arm.
Once the doors did open, things went smoothly. We got through everything quickly and smoothly. Didn't cost a thing, they didn't even ask to see our insurance cards. The only problem is, I wasn't elligable for this round of immunizations (despite being in a high risk diabetic group) and Mary needs a booster. They said I most likely would have to wait in line two more times.
I hope the National Guard doesn't make us wait out in the snow in January.
Oh by the way... there was a hot dog stand set up for those of us waiting outside in line. The girls and I got interviewed for tv (wowt channel 6)... and when we left the line stretched from the back garage doors of the armory all the way out to close to Hwy 6.
I found Lisa on TV! Just google "WOWT" and then their homepage comes up and off to the right are video clips of news stories and Lisa is the 2nd one (about H1N1)...she and the girls look great!
Lisa, We enjoyed seeing you and the girls on TV. It didn't look like it was too cold when you were waiting outside. Probably little or no wind. Mom and Dad
It's TOO HOT & HUMID here when you are not used to it. Mom went to water aerobics this morning but then we stayed in the rest of the day. About 5:30 it cooled down to about 85 degrees so we went to the pool for about a half hour. After showers we are ready for some Italian.
Yeah, well, it's gray and rainy here. It was gray and rainy yesterday and I imagine it'll be gray and rainy tomorrow. The good news - Joe and Brianne were here for a day and helped Stevo rake before the rain came back. We have a pile in the driveway about 15 x 20 and 5 feet tall.
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 30). Your radiant personality attracts abundant love and attention. Friendships become central to your activities. Bonds are made stronger. January brings a wave of interest in your pet project. Follow through. Your influence will be far-reaching. You'll change the world, one person at a time. May brings a big commitment. Leo and Taurus people adore you. Lucky numbers are: 7, 3, 22, 50 and 19.
He is the Skipper from Gilligan's Island. The whole G I crew is represented at RDG today - Gilligan, Mary Ann, Ginger, the Howells and the Professor. I sprayed his hair blond today - it really looks kind of neon yellow-green.
Randy does not have the belly to be the Skipper. But it does sound like a fun office.
Jude is Anakin Skywalker, Sam is wearing Jude's old cow costume and Finn is a pumpkin. All cute of course but all costumes were store-bought. You know I' m not crafty.
Jude had a chest x-ray and his lungs were cloudy. The dr. said it was like pre-pneumonia. I can't remember the exact work he used. Anyway, he's on antibiotic. Still running a fever and coughing a lot. I also told him that Sam (who was not with us)seemed to be coming down with something and he gave us tamiflu. I gave Sam two doses yesterday and today he seems fine. I can't decide if I should continue with the course or save the Tamiflu for a rainy day.
I must see pics of Simon and Garfunkel.
Those marker-faced criminals in Carroll are too stupid!
And Lisa, at least the weather was good for waiting and you guys looked great in the news story.
Oh and the guy who was supposed to come install our new bathroom sink and light fixture, etc is not coming on Sat as promised. I am so annoyed. Everyone tells me to get used to it. I thought people in this line of work were hard up for jobs.
Em, I think that there is plenty of work for handymen/jack of all trade guys. It's the home builders that are needing work.
I had a guy in last spring who took apart my pocket door and has not been heard from since. He said he couldn't find the part he needed and now we need to tear out the drywall to fix it.
There's nothing like a day spent at the pool or beach in hot florida, followed by an early dinner and something cold to drink. Several cold things to drink.
I didn't do the Walt Whitman Levis thing. It was done by another agency. I like "Go Forth" but think it gets a little thinky at times. I never understood Whitman in high school. But I was barely paying attention. Is he like Eckhart Tolle? I like that guy.
Friday. Jen is taking the Ferry in to SF and we're going to an organic restaurant for dinner. Don't worry, we'll still have pizza and beer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!!! YOU ARE BOTH SOOOOOOO GOOD LOOKING. I am so proud of my brother and so sad for all the victims of H1N1. i think we have it here too, here in chicago (sic, sick) did anyone see the pics of hillary in afghanistan? for some reason, they are a source of inevitable hilarity to me. HAPPY HALLOWEEKEND!!! Please post as many photos of all the costumes. We played a show last night with this really famous dude. so we played for like 1500 16 year-olds. We covered the monster mash and dressed like zombies, mummies and ghouls. people were crowd-surfing.
Who WAS the famous dude? Our costumes are as follows: Catie-Rosalie (a vampire from "Twilight") Mia-monster Oscar-Garden Gnome
Catie's costume befuddles me because the vampires of Twilight just look like humans, but she's wearing a wig and going with a group who are the other Cullen family members. Mia makes a great monster. Oscar looks hilarious but he won't leave his hat on (it has a beard attached) so he just looks like a kid with a flannel shirt. I dressed as a ladybug at work yesterday.
Ha! Mia and Oscar just came by for treats. Oscar has apparantly decided his hat and beard look cool, but he doesn't care about the candy. He just grabbed a broom and started sweeping the porch. A little tiny gnome sweeping our porch. Mia's costume is great - she's a Monsters Inc monster.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I worked for my birthday. It was fun. So much fun I did it again the next day. Then on Sunday I removed leaves from my yard for 7 hours. Doing the same today at the restaurant.
The kids made homemade cards (I think they are the best kind). A few weeks ago I got my present in the form of a new tv. It was really a gift if neccessity as our old one was constantly on the fritz. I think HD is over rated.
HD is overrated! Who needs to see Merideth Viera's wrinkles every morning? I'm just fine with the smoother, less realistic version of TV personalities, and beyond that, I haven't really noticed a difference.
Aaargh! This week I have Confirmation rehearsal Tuesday, Generations of Faith Wednesday (with a turkey dinner) Reconciliation prep Saturday morning with centers that each have about 6 activities to do, Confirmation Sunday. Wilma is gone till Thursday so I have to do all the copying, printing, collating of projects, programs, nametags of Confirmation names (one darn girl won't call me back and tell me hers) rounding up servers, lectors, ministers, etc. And the Diocese just faxed me a form to fill out with all the readings, confirmandi names & sponsors etc and on the top it says "Please return to the Bishop's office no later than two weeks before the Confirmation date." Sorry, too late. It's like the week before Christmas in retail, without the $$$.
We're all sick. IF this is the h1n1, it's no fun. I mean we've been sicker but this will just not go away. I had headache and body ache for a few days last week, but then it went away. Yesterday it came back. Went to bed with shivering chills and woke up burning up and sweating. As we were up with the kids last night for some reason I was thinking how sad it is that so many kids grow up in crummy homes and have no one to comfort them when they're sick.
Ooooh - hope you guys feel better soon. I know - you think it's getting over with and then someone has a relapse. Anyone who can get vaccinated against this should.
Waterford crystal closeout Now that the Waterford outlet in Albertville is closed, it's difficult to find Waterford on sale. One exception is Landmark Jewelers (402 St. Peter St., St. Paul, 651-222-2282), which is discontinuing its collection of Waterford crystal made in Ireland. All Waterford items (about 75 styles) are discounted 25 percent, including desk clocks ($145 before the discount), 10-inch bowls ($325), rose bowls ($195), champagne flutes ($165/pair), votives ($49) and a 10-inch Seahorse vase ($350). Most pieces are in the Lismore pattern. Many of Landmark's original prices are about 5 to 8 percent lower than online sources such as Amazon, Horchow and Neiman Marcus.
