Good Morning! (Friday)
I spoke to Bob this a.m. Deb had an MRI yesterday afternoon which did not show anything. She has been moved from ICU to a regular patient room and since she is not tethered to a bunch of tubes she can walk around a lot more. The surgeon who operated on her is out of town until tomorrow and he is the only one who can sign off on her being discharged, (except that his partner may be able to do it) so she will probably be discharged tomorrow, when the surgeon gets back.
since Bob has only one class this summer he can be with her most of the day. They are concentrating on speech and vocational therapy. She will be talking to you and stops in the middle of a sentence because she cannot think of the word she wants. Otherwise, there is nothing new and Bob seems very much encouaraged with her progress.

Happy birthday Lisa! Send the kids to a sitter, call in sick and spend the day laying around.
Deb was discharged from the hospital today. It has been a hellish week. Deb's was even worse. We appreciate all your prayers as we face a difficult time.
Deb is fine physically, but could be facing a lengthy rehab. She gets frustrated when she can't finish a sentence but the progress she has made over the past few days has been very encouraging.
Once again we want to thank everyone for your prayers. Feel free to call anytime and we would be happy to entertain any visitors

Happy Birthday Lisa! ANd Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers!

Deb, we are wishing you all the best and it sounds like you are making progress rather rapidly. We will pray that it continues. I am sure the whole ordeal was/is scary. Keep on pushing yourself!

I went to Mom and Dad's last week for a couple days and was treated to dinner at Sister Sarah's twice. The first night I ordered the chipotle chicken pasta which I had ordered the previous two visits. I love it. The second night I decided to try something new and went with the fried carnitas ravioli and it was so tasty and I have to say I've never had anything like it. I was distracted by kids while eating, and neglected to tell Tom how great it was.

Also, Jude had lots of fun playing with Eli and Liam. Tom and Nance got some morning glory seeds and Jude planted them in the little dirt pods (not sure what they are called) and they are already sprouting. Can't wait to put them around the fence at the new house. Anyone who saw Jude's tears when having to say goodbye to Mia at Emma's First Communion party can guess how he reacted when it was time to go home.

Deb,

So glad you are home, and I hope the recovery period is quick.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers!

Lisa! Happy Birthday! I hope you celebrated and received many pretty gifts and chocolates.

I just got back from a couple of days in Lauterbrunnen and Murren. Quite spectacular - it's been called the most beautiful mountain valley in Europe. What is most spectacular however, is how expensive Switzerland is.

Pat, blah, blah, blah Lauterbrunnen. Blah, blah, blah Switzerland. Well, I went to Whittemore and Algona. So there!

Just kidding. Glad you are having fun.

We had a great dinner at Sarah's yesterday with Mom and Dad, Joe and Betty, Monica and Thomas, and because we were there so early, Tom was able to come sit with us for more than the usual five minutes. The patio looks lovely. Joe had a cigarette out there and he said it worked great. After our dinner, Mom and Dad were headed to a graduation in St. Benedict, and from there to Rochester. When I got too tired to drive halfway home, I thought about those two warriors, probably still on their way too. I salute them.

Lisa, how did you bowl?

Anonymous said...

Bowling. Hurrah for bumbers for kids.

My first game I had two strikes and three spares and I still only had a score of 106? 113? I forget.

My second game my aim was better by I didn't have much push left in these scrawny wrists... I got just under 100.

Emma and Mary throw the ball across their bodies into the gutter where it hits the bumper and zig zags down the lane.

My birthday / Mother's Day weekend was great.... many thanks for the well wishes as I reach the half century mark. We went out to eat at an old Omaha steakhouse on Friday. Saturday night there was an event at St. Richard's and Sunday was bowling, planting flowers, etc. All in all a lovely weekend.

Who / how many will be here next weekend when it's all about Ellen J?

Re: Ellen's celebration weekend.
We won't be there. :-( Tom has to work (Renee's O/O/T all week and he'll be closing every night) and I have to be home, on Saturday, 'cuz Eli is going on a school trip to Arnold's Park and Liam has a baseball game. On Sunday (Monday prolly too), we have a HUGE outdoor clean-up scheduled at Sister Sarah's with friends/employee(s) coming to help us out. Sigh...I'll be glad when it's all done...of course it's never really done...but, it should be much moh bettah. ;-)

Happy birthday Lisa!

Fifty's fun
Better than fifty-one.

Lisa! Happy Birthday! Have you heard...50 is the new "not dead".

Tom

Anonymous said...

Hey, where is everyone? We haven't heard from Grace for a while. Just too busy or PC problems?

Anonymous said...

The politically correct term is not "the not dead" but "The Undead". I thought you knew that.

If David Cook doesn't win American Idol...I'll never watch the show again. That'll show 'em.

Anonymous said...

He doesn't want to win. He will make more money if he doesn't win and can sign his own record deal.

Grace's computer has indeed crashed. She can use Ryan's work laptop in a pinch for online, or use hers as an expensive word processor (I think) for papers, but she doesn't get online for fun until they get theirs fixed or get a new one.

Thank you Nance, for responding to Ellen's wedding shower invitation (broad hint to all other ladies). When else will you ever be able to attend a bridal shower in a man-cave with dark wood paneling and deer heads and stuffed fish mounted on the walls?

Anonymous said...

Plus innumerable b/w photos of grinning guys in plaid holding up dead fish, or groups of guys holding rifles or shotguns? Plus a nice view of the lake.

Anonymous said...

Plus you can play pool there.

Anonymous said...

And some yummy food.

RSVP for Ellen's shower:
1. Caitlin
2. Mary Ellan
3. Mary Caryl
will all be attending.

I hate it when something crawls inside your wall and dies. My house reeks of paint and death.

I was on the train the other day and it smelled like piss and cherries.

Ellen's shower:

Emily regrets she will not be able to attend.

JoeIII, did I tell you I admire how gracefully you shrugged off baby spit on your shoulder eventhough your jacket will now have to be dry cleaned?

Monica, what sort of critter do you think it is? Can you pinpoint exactly where it's coming from? Are you coming up here with Ellen to look at schools? You can stay with us!

Moninca, are you certain that it's not one of the roofers? The one who forgot to tarp the roof.

It's only slightly more comforting when you can hear something crawling around inside your walls (as I did yesterday). At least it doesn't smell, yet.

Brianne and her colleagues at Juice magazine are working on stories about Iowa day trips. Last week I went with Brianne to the Ax Murder House in Villisca. The only thing more interesting than the house was the guy giving the tour, Darwin. He's worth a story himself. Does anybody remember a hunting show starring a guy named Darwin?

One of Brianne's co-workers went to the Grotto and stopped at Sister Sarah's to see the Giant Cheeto. I didn't know they were going beforehand, but they spoke very highly of the restaurant, and said it might be featured in the magazine sometime.

Joe J~ My name is spelled NancE...please, tell Brianne. Ha!

AND a belated Happy Birthday to you, Lisa!

So the Preakness Stakes is this weekend. I think you should all watch because this Big Brown has a chance to win the triple crown. The second place horse broke its leg trying to keep up with him in the Kentucy Derby and he still won by like 4 lengths.

Scott Larsen will play, at Sister Sarah's, on the first and third Fridays in June!
Maybe, Friday, May 30th...undecided.

Ok so I am going to play hookey today and go to the cubs game. It is great out and a friend just called with tickets. Go Cubs!
