Many, many thanks to all of you for remembering me on my 50th birthday.

Randy and I are very excited to be going on a get-away to Galena. I love that town!

Randy and I have done (or at least organized) something a little bit different for each of you as you turn 50 - now the pressure is on to keep it up! hmmm.

Thanks again,
love,
lisa

A sweetly tough girl with two brothers
hoped to learn to golf like some others.
We think she'll be good
with her irons and wood!
She'd be closer if I had my druthers.

Happy Birthday Braden! What a great photo. So, golf! Enjoy, and don't kill any gophers.

Happy anniversary cathy and steve!

Pat, how was your trip?

8 really is the golden age of kid-dom. As far as I was concerned, at least. I was much smarter then than I am know, that's for sure. I knew I liked dinosaurs and the A-Team, Indiana Jones and Star Wars. I knew my bike wasn't fast enough and my pants were too short. Now, I really don't know like or want. And I have trouble admitting that my bike isn't good enough or my pants are the wrong length.

Braden, enjoy your 8. And stay smart.

Happy Birthday.

Molly I tried to email you and it bounced back.

My trip was good, very pretty. I had fondue and absinthe, of which I am most proud since it's so literary and illegal in the U.S. Next trip I hope to try laudanum.

I also left my cell phone there, so all systems are slowly shutting down here. Computer almost died after having beer spilled on it (new external keyboard has given it some semblance of a life), cable out, cell phone in Switzerland.

Fondue's illegal? Oh boy, I'm in big trouble!

Anonymous said...

Well, all that cheese felt worse the next day than the absinthe did.

Was it Swiss Cheese?

Happy Birthday, Braden! :-)
Happy Anniversary Cathy and Stevo!
Whatcha'all do?

Just in case anyone was wondering...as I was.

ab·sinth n.
A green liqueur having a bitter anise or licorice flavor and a high alcohol content, prepared from absinthe and other herbs, and now prohibited in many countries because of its toxicity.

Anonymous said...

I love what it (absinth) did to Ewan and Nicole in "Moulin Rouge"...oneof my favorite movies!!
Pat, did you start singing and hanging from buildings?

Looks like that Kennedy curse finally caught up to Ted.

This just occurred to me...do you think it's possible that Hillary will still run for president even if she doesn't get the nomination. Why? To ensure McSlimy doesn't win so she can run again.

Moulin Rouge...a chick flick.

Yeah, I feel sad for the Kennedys today. It sounds like that's a pretty rough, dire prognosis sort of brain tumor. Very sad.

But I was also thinkign about what a big head Ted Kennedy has. I can't think of a bigger, rounder head, except maybe those restaurants that have a big statue outside, like Happy Chef guy or Bob's Big Boy.

At one point today the heat index was 105. Now it's 88. The temp has only dropped about 5 degrees but the dew point was crazy high.

This is the most poignant thing I've heard in response to Kennedy news, just bc it sounds so normal and real.

"I'm really sad. He's the one politician who brings tears to my eyes when he speaks." — Former Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb.

Speaking of poignant...JFK to Bobby at the peak of the Cuban missle crisis. "Hey, pull my finger."

Now that's real.

I took Desmond to see Ted Kennedy back in 1982 at Morningside College (Des was 7) Ted and Maria Shriver (his niece, Terminator's wife) arrived, we were right up front, she was wearing a sexy red dress and red cowboy boots and they both had had a "few" on the plane. Ted was funny and a great speaker, she introduced him. It was fun.

she (Shriver) looks like a vampire now.

That's only because she looks like her mom

Tom and I are considering making a donation to the Church by purchasing a stone for the new garden. The stone can be engraved with your family name and they are $250 (or more...as Father shared) each. There is space for 3 lines with 17 characters per line to engrave upon. Hmm...I'll have to check out the other stones, more closely, to see what others have written. I'm assuming we would simly put, Tom, Nance, Eli and Liam Straub...yes?

Anonymous said...

I think you should put:

For a great meal
Try Sister Sarah's!
Tom Nance Eli & Liam

Seriously, that's very generous. You could do:
The Straub Family
Tom and Nance
Eli and Liam

Anonymous said...

you should do a limerick. everyone likes a good limerick.

Anonymous said...

Ha! Funny you should say that about mentioning Sarah's...'cuz I thought the same thing! :-<> How 'bout...
"Come smoke
on the PATIO
at Sister Sarah's!"

P.S. Yes, I'm joking.

I fear that if we don't include Donny...he will feel badly and we don't want that. However, if we include him than we have to put: **Nadia Audrey Mae Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed** and that may cost more...ha! :-<>
I DO like the "The Straub Family..." suggestion, thanks Cathy. I'm sure we'll do that. ;-)
We are going on our annual Memorial weekend trip to my sisters' cabin in Northern Minnesota (McGregor). They are located on Ball Bluff Lake. We have gone there every Memorial weekend for 6 years. Her husband built the cabin with his father who died (cancer) about 7 years ago. Next Tuesday, they are listing it for $259,900 (all inclusive) 'cuz they don't get there as often as they used to and have college tuition(s) around the corner...sad. ;-( We will return on Monday, late afternoon.
BTW: Donny and Nadia will be here for their summer visit...from June 22nd through July 7th. I have arranged private swim lessons (for both) with the swim team coach. We're lucky because she typically only instructs swim team kids, but has taught Donny for 3 years and will continue on with Eli and Liam although they are no longer on swim team. :-)

Everyone,

I stupidly clicked on some riduculous network that got into all my contacts in my email account and sent it out to everyone - I think. If you received some email that says something like "gift from ecstraub" don't open it. If you already did, SORRY! It may get into your contacts and email everyone.

Nance, if you have time driving to or from Ball Bluff, stop by our new house. We're moving in that weekend. We're very close to the intersate. If no time, I understand.

Anonymous said...

Em~ Cool! We'll stop by on Monday around Noon-ish. :-)

We've hired a local singer (Scott Larsen) to perform at Sarah's the first and third Friday of every month throughout the summer. He's very reasonably priced and the 3 ads we'll place aren't too bad either. It'll be interesting to see if he generates a good Friday night crowd. We've had a lot of 30-50 year old Guests share that Algona needs more entertainment. They've suggested comedians and/or magicians...but, they're way over priced...so, this is our answer to their request.

Anonymous said...

Nance, scratch that. We move the week after Memeorial Day.

Anonymous said...

We're coming anyway.

Anonymous said...

Emily...come down to Whittemore...Ed is coming and maybe Bob and Deb and Monday and Tuesday are Whittemore Days and Jude can do the tractor pull!! Nance, you guys can stop on your way through! I should be a travel planner.

Anonymous said...

Why is Nadia taking swimming lessons? How old is she now? (just wondering) Very young kids (up to 12 mos) swim naturally when in water...I just can't remember how old she is, just seems young for lessons.

Anonymous said...

We won't be at Whittemore Days because both boys have baseball...in two seperate locales. :-<>

Nadia will be 11 months old. I figure the better the children of a blind woman, with mental health challenges, living in the land of ten thousand lakes...know how to swim...the better. Oh and also 'cuz I'm super nice. :-)

Done with bookwork...now gotta pack. Have a great holiday weekend all! :-)

Anonymous said...

That is very nice. Thank you, Nance.

Anonymous said...

It's no big deal...it'll be fun. ;-)
G&G/Joe3/m.e./...I just emailed you baseball schedules. :-)

In case I don't come back...check out the note on my desk...I'm showing an acreage in LuVerne to a guy from Rake, Iowa...I googled him, no felonies, etc...this is the only part of real estate sales I don't like..I won't go into the basement with him...hmmm how did he get our number in Rake, he says he doesn't have internet...see ya later...
haha

So, how did Cathy and steve celebrate?

Anonymous said...

Mary, have you returned safe and sound?

Anonymous said...

Where is Mary?!

Anonymous said...

Mary, Mary, where ARE you?

Anonymous said...

I'm safe...thanks for asking...he looked like a Billy Bob Thorton type...I stayed out of reach and pretended to check on his dog when he said "Mary, let's go look at the basement"....then "Mary I don't like this place"...there was an elec. drill on the kitchen floor...yikes!
