I really like this picture. Orange looks good on you, Joe. And you have a nice tan from golfing and/or yard work. Happy Birthday! Have fun.

Is everyone enjoying this wonderful fall weather we've been having? This sounds drippy, but it truly is glorious! Makes me dread winter even more.

Drip,drip,drip....

There's the cowardly, snarky Anon again.

So about 3 weeks ago a lady who works like 35 feet from where I sit was looking at her hand and noticed that it was swelling up and had all these bites.....

Well it turns out that there were BEDBUGS over on that corner of the office. They brought in bedbug sniffing dogs and verified that there was an infestation and they threatened the workers that knew not to tell anybody about it. Well word go out when everybody saw all the crates over on end of the office that people were packing stuff into yesterday. Kind of POed about the whole thing. Also - they aren't spraying until today after work - almost three full weeks after the frist report!

Emily, that was me. I didn't mean to be snarky or cowardly. Just teasing.
Sorry,
Monica

How am I supposed to dry my clothes in hot water?

It's so nice out I've been using any excuse to go over to the hall or church all week and then sneak in a quick walk around the block. Just looking after things, you know. Father Dan left his garage door open yesterday.

How's the weather in Florida been? I've been on the run so much I can't remember seeing any east coast forecasts, but I have the impression it's been raining tons? I hope not.

Florida has been beautiful. We had a couple of rainy days and yesterday was overcast, but in general we are enjoying days of 84 or so for a high and nights of 69 or so for a low.

We saw mom and dad last week and they had made one trip to the beach so far. We'll see them again this weekend at some point.

Happy Birthday, Joe. Or should i start calling you Bubba?

Monica, I accept your apology.

What the heck is up with this bed bug infestation? I heard on the news today that NYC's Lincoln Center was infested and all the seating had to be removed.

Speaking of bugs, somone in Jude's class has lice. Are we for sure doomed?

c said...

Not necessarily. I hope you don't, it sucks.

I dropped a large size jar of beans on the top of my big toe last night. It's not broken but it's all purple - not where the jar hit it, but at the end. Like a purple balloon.

I've heard if you use Tea Tree Shampoo, lice will avoid your head. I found some at a salon that wasn't too pricey. I don't love the smell of it, but apparently you just use it every other washing to prevent lice. It's also recommended for dandriff and itchy scalp. There are always lice outbreaks at the beginning of the school year.

Ring worm is worse than lice. Took us months to get rid of it. Lice is a pain but a quicker fix.

Happy birthday Joe!

We had bedbugs at my work before I left, too. Another teacher and I figured it out & when we asked our boss about it, she also made a big deal about keeping it secret. That made me mad, too. I told other teachers though.

So i'm out walking today and come across a guy wearing a Creighton sweatshirt, we get to talking and it turns out he was Brian Thul's old roommate. He didn't remember me, but he did remember Emily.

Happy belated birthday, Joe!

Jen and I had a great Saturday. After the football game (the outcome of which was not great), we decided to fire up the grills and indulge ourselves with Coho Salmon and a grass fed filet. Oh, and some shrimp as well.

Filet is my nemesis on the grill. I rarely get it "just right" but last night was almost perfect.

We ate it and watched Robin Hood (the Ridley Scott version). I wouldn't necessary recommend it but wouldn't deter you from watching it, either. I WOULD, on the other hand, recommend seeing The Social Network.

Wow, that was a remarkably unremarkable post. And it had almost nothing to do with Joe's birthday.

Hope you had a great one, Joe.

Just talked to Grace today. She said that Zane is an inch shorter than before he hurt his back. The doc thinks it will correct itself and is going to see him in 6 months to make sure. Also, she said that when you look at his back and see all the little bumps of his vertebrae, there's a blank spot where the two are wedged inward. Meanwhile she caught him doing a flip yesterday. He feels fine.
I showed Oscar my purple toe last night and he told me to put it away. Then, to clarify, he told me to put it in my shoe. I am officially a gross old lady.

Des - A filet is usually really thick. There is your problem. If you want more success in the future let it sit out of the fridge for an hour or so before you cook it. If it goes on the grill at room temp you can get it cooked in the middle without charring the outside. Any pathogens that grow on it while it's not under refridgeration will be charred to death as they will be on the exterior of the meat. Also, as with almost all grill cookery you want to have an intense hot spot on the grill to char the outside and seal in the juices. Then a not-so-hot-spot (we in the industry call this the Cameron Diaz spot) where the meat can more gently finish cooking. Also, it is very important that you have a cheap beer while grilling.

Is the cheap beer for drinking or to douse errant flames?
