Sad story about the Notre Dame student who died while filming football practice on Wed...lots of articles about it, but a good one @notre dame observer.
For those of you who can get live radio on the internet Phelan and David will be on WUGA (Athens Public Radio) @4 today for a live in studio interview and playing....she thinks 4, supposed to be there at 3:30
Actually, after touring 4,000 miles in the past 4 weeks, the van broke down on the way to the radio station from our house in Athens. Pretty strange and crappy. But they're going to reschedule us so it's fine. And the van's at the mechanic. And it's Friday after 5 eastern time so let's all have a drink. -phe
Well, South Carolina isn't the point. The point is stranded somewhere away from home with a broken vehicle.
Though, having driven through South Carolina a couple times and absolutely loving part of it, I can attest that there are some areas that are a bit ... ahem ... backwoods?
Hope Tom and Mely had happy birthdays! Have a great Halloween too.
Jude won best costume prize for his age group at the chruch pizza party last night. He got a $20 gift card to Borders books. He was certain he was going to win and I kept telling him he might or might not but just have fun.
Terrible play calling in the ND game. I blame coach, not green QB.
Jude was a cowboy. He had real suede vest and chaps that were Scott's. He had cowboy hat, bandana, boots and the best part - a fake moustache. He looked really cute. Tonight though, about a half an hour before trick or treating he said he wanted to be a baseball player so we scrambled to put something together. Sam had a cowboy outfit all ready but then he wanted to be a basball player too. I was going to try to talk them out if it, but resisted. They had a fun Halloween.
Thanks everyone. And Happy Birthday to you too, Mely.
Had a nice weekend. Did some yardwork which had been deferred for the past few weeks. Liam's final football game was Saturday night "under the ligthts" just like the big boys. His team finished 7-0.
We finally got around to joining Costco on Saturday. I can see this is going to save us a lot of money. Anyone with horses to feed, I suggest joining on of the discount warehouses. All the samples they pass out qualified as a lunch so we saved double I guess.
Not much news to report from here....Job is going good. I'm still adjusting to the environment but am enjoying it.
Eli's football season ended a couple of weeks ago. He is unsure if he will sign up for basketball. He endlessly texts a girl he has taken an interest in. They've negotiated terms and are now boyfriend and girlfriend. Which I guess means they say hi in the hallway.
They were sitting together at the highschool game on Friday. Liam saw them sitting together and wondered if she was the girl in question. His final determination was that it couldn't be because the girl Eli was sitting with was "out of his league".
Eli has joined a ski club that will go to a ski hill once a week during the winter. Should be fun.
Don continues to take Kung Fu and has adjusted to school well. When I take him to high school football games he has a lot of friends to hang with.
Liam was selected to play on an "All Star" football team made up of the best players in his league. They will practice as a single team this week then play in a tournament in Sandusky this weekend. I'm not sure if he was chosen for his play at offensive guard or defensive tackle. They are only taking 23 kids so he is sure to play a lot.
Nance is busy being a mom. Thankfully, she will be a little less busy for a bit. Somedays she was having to make a trip as many as 5 times a day to pick up or drop off kids for various activities. A trip that is 9 miles one way through busy suburbia traffic. Thinking this may tail off a bit if Eli doesn't go out for basketball.
Thanks for the update, Tom and glad to hear everyone is adjusting well.
Hey, anyone and everyone -I have a pork loin roast in the crock with pots and carrots and onion. Do I need to add some liquid? What else should I add? Maybe some mustard?
Happy All Saints Day! The school band played When the Saints Go Marching In this morning. Sam said the tubas were loud.
Catie and Mia and Oscar came over (Caroline, Ellen and Molly, too) after the tailgate to trick-or-treat in Des Moines for Beggar's Night. Oscar kept asking me to feed him meat, so I kept giving him slices of roast beef lunch meat. It was pretty funny. I should have traded him for his bag full of candy. I handed out seven bags.
Then Ellen and Andy had all of us and Ed over for a backyard bonfire!

4 eastern time?
They've had major difficulties apparently. The radio station....not airing the program.

That's too bad Phe. At least it didn't break down in the middle of South Carolina or something.

what's so wrong with south carolina?

Ski club?! Thomas would kill for that. He loves skiing.
MOnica
Monica, you guys should make a ski trip up here!
Inspired by Tom the Bravest's photo I put white wine, garlic and mustard in with the pork...we'll see how it turns out.
Mmm! That sounds delicious, Emily!
