Hello. I tried to send this message earlier but could not. I called to make our wedding reservations at the Hampton Inn and when I inquired about the shuttle the lady told me the shuttle will operate if the are 10 reservations. I asked how many have reserved rooms and she said 3, including ours. So if you want to be shuttled be sure to mention that you are with the wedding group when you make your reservation and if you've already made a reservation without telling them that, it might be a good idea to call them back and let them know. Remind you of anything?

Carly Houston, 29, was arrested in Naperville, Ill., in March after a rowdy early-morning dispute with a taxi driver, and, given her customary "one phone call" to ask a friend to post bond for her, she chose instead to call 9-1-1 and report that she was "trapped inside a detention facility" (thus causing police to add "abuse of 9-1-1" to the charges). [Naperville Sun, 3-23-10]

they're in Madison now, I believe. at least according to a friend who wanted to invite the DL over to a bbq and watch the brewers.

We set up a private shuttle opportunity, so transportation shouldn't be a problem — regardless of how many reserve there!

Rota virus is sweeping through my work, and now our house. I was sick all day Sunday and rested Monday. Then Andy and Buddy both were awake and puking by 5 this morning. Our dog is as sick as a dog. Although it was not fun trying to figure out if I was having contractions each time I threw up, I'm glad I didn't have to stay home and clean up dog puke on the day I was sick too. And of course Andy is one of those people who never gets sick, so when he finally does, it might as well be the end of the world :) The good news is that my dr. told me I could "be a lot more liberal" with my weight gain for the next few weeks, especially since I went down two pounds after Sunday.

"Liberal with weight gain? Wow! Steaks and icecream for Ellen. Hope everyone feels well soon.

Today I finally got to use one of my Mother's Day gifts: PRESCRIPTION SWIM GOGGLES. Awesome. For the first time in my life I can swim and see at the same time. With my navy blue fake speedo and my dangerous-looking blue and black goggles I felt like an aging superhero getting back into shape. I think they make me swim faster.

Anonymous said...

I am certain they make you swim faster. You don't have to worry about running into anything....What an excellent gift! How did pants on the ground end up, anyway?

And, has the house move happened yet?

And, Ellen, I certainly hope your house is back to its earlier health quickly! Enjoy a big messy burger dripping with gruyere cheese and a side of fries for me. YUMMY.

For my birthday (among other very nice items) I got a polar heart rate monitor. you strap it around your chest before exercise and it transmits to a special wrist watch. I get my heart rate, my time spent exercising and my calories burned. it also stores information on my workouts. and tells time. You can even swim with it.

well, i am wondering if this thing could save my life. as i was walking 3 miles on the track (and walking really fast), after the first mile and a half the warning buzzer kept going off on my watch. My heart rate kept jumping to 185 / 190 etc. So it would seem that after getting my heart rate up to a suitable exercise speed, i will need to amble from now on. it sure explains feeling sick and dizzy after exercizing (which is usually what happens).

now randy thinks he needs a polar watch to make sure he is ok while biking 24 miles to and from work.

Lisa maybe you should go have a stress test.

I googled this and it seems not uncommon.... don't know why. The watch gave me my own zone: 117 to 133.

Here's a chart as a general guideline:

Happy birthday Braden! I could not believe how much older you looked when I saw you on Mothers day!

I was at the Nebraska boys state soccer championships the other night.. It was between Omaha South (where Emily taught when she lived here) and Lincoln East. it was a great game because South hadn't been in any sort of finals since the 90's and because it literally came down to the wire- Lincoln won in second overtime :( . Anyway when I was leaving, the lincoln east students were rushing the field and I saw a bunch of green paper flying everywhere. I later saw on the news that they had made a bunch of "green cards" and threw them over the losing team when they rushed the field. (Omaha South = 60% Latino). So disappointing and disgusting! Especially because simply being at this game was enriching-huge hispanic families present and little kids running around. So Em, I guess your school won that game for class.

Sorry my posts are so random and sporadic!

That's about what I would expect out of Lincoln. Dad

A pair of cardinals built a nest in a bush right outside our kitchen window. Today the boys got to see a feeding of delicious regurgitated worms. It was pretty cool.

Hi all!

Just a bit of information on Randy's Dad:

He has a non-operable anuryism on his heart. And diabetes. And kidney stones.

He passed one stone and things did not go well. In fears of stress on his heart and that he could go into kidney failure (the stones were stuck in a bad place) he was taken by ambulance to Mayo (St. Mary's in Roch, actually). I think they put in a stint, I am assuming the stones will pass through the stint, but I'm not sure. He is doing better. I am hoping Randy will be back home in CB by Saturday.

I hope Randy's dad recovers soon. If Randy needs a place to stay he could come up here. I mean it's still and hour and a half from Rochester so maybe that doesn't even make sense but - open invitation.

Saturday - any new word on Randy's dad?

Still looks like the house move is next Saturday. Of course, there are all kinds of last-minute details popping up that we never even thought of or were told about. Unfortunately, they seem to be averaging about $1000.00 each.

Happy 30th anniversary of your ordination, Dad!

Anonymous said...

Good morning. A couple days ago Mary Ellan told me that Bill Black, a deacon at St. Cecelia's, mentioned to her that today (May 23) would be the 30th anniversary of my ordination as a deacon. Mary wanted to confirm this. I always remember the date because May 23 is Grandpa Straub's birthday and the night before my ordination Mary and Mike had a birthday party for him in Sioux City.
At any rate, Mary asked me if I had told anyone about the anniversary and I had not, so she got busy. Fr. Ramaeker, the pastor in St. Michael's, is on vacation in Russia with his sisters and Fr. Friedmann is covering in his absence. So she called Fr. Friedmann to tip him off. Then she called Joe so he and his 2 kids could come to Mass in Whittemore. The same with Tom's kids and Donnie, whom Mary brought.
I was really surprised when, shortly after the beginning of Mass, Fr. Friedmann told the congregation that it is my 30th and he had a few nice things to say and he started a round of applause. It was a surprise and it was fun.
After Mass we all went to the Chrome for brunch. Joe invited Fr. Friedmann but he had a prior invitation for breakfast. By the way, some of you probably remember Bill Black from St. Cecelia grade school and Garrigan H.S. He was from a big family, I think 12 kids, so many of you had classmates who were his brothers and sisters
At any rate, it was a nice celebration. God bless all of you, including the NY relatives. Love, Dad

Congratulations, Grandpa! That sounds like a nice celebration.

Wow. This is the first day it really feels like summer in Des Moines. Going to be almost 90 today.

If anybody didn't get a wedding invitation, please let me know. We sent them out a couple weeks ago, but we've slowly been getting a few back that have mistakes. You can RSVP at:

joeandbrianne.projectwedding.com

Also, just a reminder that the group rates at the hotels end in the next couple weeks. You can get the discount at the Fairfield through June 3 and at the Hampton through June 10. Make sure you tell them you're with the Sanchez/Jayjack wedding.

Hey, nice site, Joe and Brianne. You'll be glad to know we're coming.
