Happy Birthday to 3 lovely ladies! Catie has a school dance on her birthday which she may or may not attend depending on her mood that day (and on her grades at conferences the night before). Then she and I and a friend of hers are staying the night at the Hilton Downtown, hanging in the Old Market and swimming at the hotel. I got a great rate thru a friend, and this is what she wanted instead of a party. Well, that and hot wings. Tonight Mia and I played soccer oustide and Oscar cheered for us. She named our teams. I was the Irish Mothers and she was the Wresteling Puppies. Then we sat on the porch swing and she told me all of the thing Catie has that she wants which included- her room, her TV, half of her posters, her hamper, and her pimples.
We are just 3 days away from closing and my body is refusing to cooperate. Up until last week I could peel off 12 hour days like nothing. But now that there is an end in sight it's like my body is saying "Stop already. Why are you doing this to me. I'm almost 50 you jerk." And my body aches all over. Stupid body.
I just went to get some Claritin. I choose the Walgreens on Saddle Creek Rd. instead of Ames Ave. because I thought it might have less chance for chancy characters at it. As I drove into the parking lot there were a bunch of police taking apart two SUVs... Ha!
Tom, everyone around here is getting a late spring cold that starts with tired, achy muscles. On the other hand, the mindset and the effect of stress can be physically powerful. Good old hardworking Americans have no language or allowance for malaise. It's also a bad pollen year, for people with those allergies. But I think it's like you say. I never had a sick day when we had Art Plus, but I have three or four a year now. Because I can.
Big doin's at the YMCA this morning! Stevo and I were swimming laps and at the end of one I remarked that someone had burned the coffee. A couple laps later the lifeguard asked everyone to leave the pool. I was getting ready to change in the locker room when a woman came in and yelled "No getting dressed! Get out NOW!" So I modestly pulled my capris on over my suit (which eventually made me look like I wet my pants), threaded my way past a fire hose winding through the Y and met Stevo outside. There were two engines and a couple police cars.
It's crime season. On our way to lunch we saw two plainclothes cops handcuffing a guy a couple blocks from church, and on our way back we saw a cop parked with lights flashing running into a house about a block from Molly's. Ah, spring.
Picked up Peter from school yesterday and we were stopped at a busy intersection. I noticed that the car in front me had the front passenger side open and we could here a woman screaming. We looked up and the driver was beating the crap out of the passenger. I honked my horn and he stopped. Peter insisted I call 911. Which I did and gave the cops his plate number. The dispatcher asked me to keep following him. Which I thought was weird. I kept following and reporting back to the dispatcher. They asked if there were any weapons or children in the car. I didn't see any. I followed him all the way across town and finally said he's tuning onto the freeway and I didn't want to follow him there. He knew I was following him because he kept trying to switch lanes but there was too much traffic too. I don't know what happened but at least the passenger got a reprieve from the beating for a little while. The cops said they had his address and they would contact him there. Who knows?
Wow, Monica...good job! Cops will contact him later when he's done beating the crap out of that woman and whoever else...
Caitlin's purse was stolen with her credit card...the thief used the card 3 times at the same gas station (40th and Dodge)...Caitlin had tracked the use online, so after the first use of the card she went to that gas station, they had the guy on video. Big, fat old Black guy, and he signed the receipt "Caitlin" (no last name)...they accepted it each time as he bought over $500 worth of cigarettes...the cops never bothered to do anything, even tho he was on video and a common walker in that neighborhood!
Lisa, he also used the card at that Walgreens on Saddle Creek I think that Walgreens attracts lowlife maybe more than Ames is because of the long un-observed parking on the north side.
Good job, Monica. I think it's strange that the dispatcher asked you to follow him too.
Grr. Sometimes I think the whole Omaha police culture is so do-nothing unless it's exciting or sexy and will get them on TV. Omaha ain't New York or something. Maybe we should get some Straub brothers to jump this guy, wrap him up, and hand-deliver him to the police station. No, wait, then we'll have to convince someone to take the report.
I think the dispatcher was oh so very wrong to ask you to follow since it could put you (with kids in tow) in danger. I would wonder if that is even considered against procedure. lisa
I thought I would post another crime beat on here because its so similar to Monica's:
I was sitting outside my house with my roommate and this car comes speeding down the street with a man halfway in the drivers window beating the woman driving. There were kids crying in the back and (luckily) she stopped and yelled at them to get out. They kept driving into the cathedral parking lot, drove off the retaining wall and into a house. When the cops came I could overhear her pleading with them not to press charges against the man. We told the cops what we witnessed. So sad, especially for the kids involved.
We went to muy thai fights this weekend. Josh's workout buddies were fighting. It's pretty intense - each fight feels like the end of a close football game.
Jude and his classmates were asked the following question: After Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins he went to heaven. What is it like in heaven? Jude's response: I think it has tv's everywhere. THere are going to be tables all around and we will drink coffee.
Sister Sarah's on Saturday was fun. A never-ending baseball game on tv (that the Mets finally won) Everyone had their favorite Sarah's food and we stayed late.
I wasn't there, but I hear Tom, JOe, the Behr boys, some McCalls and Rick Boisjolie (sp?) all had a nice closing later that night.
Tom is super sick with some "unknown" infection. On Thursday, he will begin his travel towards Westlake, Ohio. He should arrive on Friday evening. Then, I have no idea when he will have internet access. He begins his new job on Monday. I'm sure he will "post" just as soon as he can. :-)
One of my students, with two weeks of the semester left - or really, 1.5 weeks - was stopped going 95 mph and apparently he had a trunk full of drugs. I don't know the whole story since I'm the teacher and they won't tell me....but dumb dumb DUMB! He would have passed the class, which he totally struggled with, but now, if he ever gets back to school he'll have to repeat it and his other classes too.
Pat, you should have taught him that 95 is the interstate and not the speed limit!
Sarah's "last night" was fun, thanks to Mom and Dad who treated all to their fav. dish and drink! Mike and I stayed until about midnight, alot of Tom's past employees and good friends stayed until the end!
Sometime if you run into Algona's favorite accordian playing son...tell him your sister works with Baz Rea's wife. (pronounced BAZ RAY) Dick Dale and Baz were apparently in the same band at one time and make the upper midwest circuit.

Just 3 more days Tom. You can do it!
Advil will be your friend.
Tom, Tom, he's our man, if he can't do it, no one can.
I just went to get some Claritin.

I won't know more until the 5:00 news. I drove by an hour later and it looked like business as usual.
Why do firemen always look so big? Even if they're 5'4" they look big.

what's with blogger? I can never get my comment posted without at least two tries.
OK, that time it took one.
Here's my crime story.

It's April 15th. We're all getting ripped off and screwed all at once.
Tom

It's the day we joyfully contribute to the good of this wonderful country!
I hate when I look over my old post and I see all the misspellings and grammar mistakes. I do know the difference between here and hear.
Mary, you're right. I just kept thinking he's just getting more angry and would probably beat her even worse when they got home.
Monica

It's pretty similar.

How was Sarah's last night?

Jude's got the right idea. Sounds great to me.
Monica
Monica did you hear anything about the wife beater?
Sister Sarah's on Saturday was fun. A never-ending baseball game on tv (that the Mets finally won) Everyone had their favorite Sarah's food and we stayed late.

I have not heard but I am wearing one today.

That sounds like a miserable drive, sick. I hope you feel better, Tom!
P
So what's going on with Tom? IS it serious?
Hope you start to feel better Tom.
With the quotes around "unknown" are you implying that Tom actually knows the type/source of infection but refuses to tell you?
One of my students, with two weeks of the semester left - or really, 1.5 weeks - was stopped going 95 mph and apparently he had a trunk full of drugs.
