My friends' 10 year old nephew has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and some other personality disorder, including anger issues...he's exhibited fairly violent and random acts of rage. His mother receives $900+/month to care for him, although he does attend regular school. Is this crazy or what?
You are so cute, Miss Mia We'd surely love to see ya. Hope you are up and feeling fine enough 'cause without Valentines we can all get gruff Perhaps a chocolate shake, Miss Mia?

Rachelle's family was kicked out of their previous apartment supposedly due to this child's violent behaviors in the neighborhood. They live in Apple Valley, MN. in a *nice* neighborhood. Crazy that she is paid to care for her own child. I feel that all or a high percentage of this money should be spent on progams for his benefit and/or saved for his future which sounds like it will be challenging...or, that he'll need a good lawyer!
It sounds like it's a good thing they're getting $900/month, whether or not they "deserve" it, if no one's working...If the kid were institutionalized it would be costing the state five times that much. Meanwhile, at least the children (innocent victims of their parents' bad choices) have a chance at decent housing, food, etc. This kind of thing really makes you mad, but don't forget the kids.
Now, perhaps this little boy was, "born," this way...but, I wouldn't be surprised if Rachelle is being paid to, "care for," (using those words losely) the mess they created. Have you heard from Jimmy? (Lewis, currently in Air Force basic training)" who used to live on the top floor of the Duncan's building. All in all a great meal, thanks for the idea. If you didn't have a cheeseburger, fries and malt last night, go get you one tonight.
Stevo had had his late lunch just a couple hours previously, so he just had some bean soup and cornbread, both very good. At Duncan's when it's busy and the booths are all full, they have long tables going down the middle so you might have to sit at a table with strangers, just like in the big city.Council Bluffs is starting to get some Omaha business because restaurants have smoking sections here and Omaha banned smoking in its restaurants. At Sam's Italian Villa, you can watch people smoking and eating at the same time, just like Paris, France.

Snow day on Monday. Late start on Tuesday. Pre-arranged half-day on Wednesday. Early out on Thursday. Will they go to school tomorrow? I guess the children in Algona don't need no learnin'.
Our cat used to capture chipmunks and bring them into the house (twice). Now she's captured a lizard and brought it in. I wish she'd just eat it....all she does is play with them and then they are in the house.
At least your cat doen't use waterboarding!! Why don't we just use truth serum and put enemy captives into a nice sleep and talk?? We know a guy (from the Vietnam war) who interrogated "hooded" Viet Cong captives while hovering in a helicopter...the captives thought they were way high in the air, but really just a few feet up...they would talk rather than be thrown out...i think that's an ok tactic.
As I prepare for your annual tax appointment: Each year, it blows me away that all of our gifted dinners (GALA...for one.) and the gift certificates we hand out...do not qualify as a donation, for tax purposes. Sigh. :-(
Every year our accountant explains it to us. Something about the front door and the back door and I just blush and say, "okay." Tom...do you understand?
RE: Obama- I think it was Tim Russert who I heard say a day or so ago something about Obama and how no one has laid a hand on him so far. That we will see how it goes for him when someone finally does.
But, I gotta believe that if there were some "dirt" on McSlimy (other than his shady house deal) the Clinton's would have pulled it out of the hat by now.
Too bad because in the debates when he is challenged on specifics he tenses up. You can tell that he isn't comfortable when he is challenged - begins to stammer a bit. I'm sure the McCain people are figuring out how to put the screws to him in the upcoming debates. As Des says it should be interesting.
Having not heard too much about Obama's policy statements myself I can only share that a handful of the talking heads are starting to mention them and how when you look closely at them they really are on the theoretical fringe of socialism. Beware. Scurry for your tax shelters now.
Tom, I didn't see your comment from the other day until now because I didn't have time to get on the blob yesterday. I referred to Michelle Obama as an articulate and impressive "PERSON" and purposely did not say she was an articulate and impressive woman, African-American, or African-American woman. Now that would have been condescending. Sorry if it read that way. I only meant to compliment her in the most positive way as a human being. I can easily envision her in the White House. PLEASE NOTE: that is not an endorsement for her husband although I can easily envision him in the White House also.
Whereas I think it is great that there are viable candidates who are other that white males, I don't mean it in any to be condescending as in: He is a great candidate for an African-American, or she is a great candidate for a woman. I mean that it seems like America can finally look past gender and race and see the person and decide who to vote for based on what that PERSON stands for and can do for our country and not need to qualify them by how they were born.
Speaking of who to decide to vote for, I feel that I should clarify what I posted on the blob a few days ago concerning that if one chooses to vote for a candidate who is running in a party that endorses pro-choice, then by voting for that candidate, it is the same as supporting that position. I realize that one can support and want to vote for a candidate and not agree with ALL the issues that candidate is running on or his or her party is endorsing. One may feel that even though there may be some things that I do not agree with in this party, I still feel that this is the best candidate, or the lesser of two evils and am willing to look the other way on certain issues because things probably won't change anyway or there are other more important issues I am concerned about. Everyone has to vote their conscience and has the right to vote as they want to. I consider myself an Independent although I have always leaned towards the Demnocratic party's philosophies for most but not all things. For me, the pro-choice endorsement by the Democratic party has been a deal breaker for some time and I can not vote for a candidate that is running on a platform that includes a pro-choice plank. Even if I thought that candidate was actually pro-life personally, if he or she endorses that platform then they will have to honor it or will be untrue to the people who elected them. I guess I don't know if the pro-choice plank is still in the Democratic platform this time but I suspect it is. I am not suggesting that anyone should vote for a candidate from the "other" party but there may be another choice out there before November. Lets hope so.

Ooooh...I watched "Hoffa" last night, with Jack Nicholson, I sorta felt sorry for Hoffa, he was just trying to help the poor truckers! haha Don't most people know that if you hang out with the mob there's an 80% chance you'll most likely die with a gun to the back of your head?
Mary - You should go rent the Jackie Presser Story now.
Once Black History Month is over people will no longer feel obligated to vote for Barak. Too bad the election will be in the bag by then. I just wonder what that will mean for the general election in Nombember...
I truly believe that we need to have our uncomfortable zone pushed in this area, pro-life, that is. It is an issue we will all pay for one way or another some day. However, it would also be very hard to find a candidate other than Mike Huckabee who is will to push that uncomfortable zone. This is the only area I can think of in which George Bush did as I hoped.
Pro-Life stance aside, I think Mike Huckabee is a closet Libertarian.
A closet Libertarian maybe, but what about the tax cuts, or will he want to dismantle Social Security and Medicare in the name of less government? Yikes! Also, I've already mentally got all my government payoffs in my new rug basket, and he's agin'em. Get out there, America! Spend those rebates on American-made goods and art and a nice restaurant dinner! And pay some nice lawyer to do your taxes instead of struggling with TurboTax! And put down a down payment on that nice green lawn tractor you've always wanted! And get that checkup you've been putting off all your life! And donate to a church endowment fund! And buy a house!
HI Mia! We hope you are feeling great by your birthday!
We are paying off debt with our rebate - exactly what the gov't didn't want us to do. I think it's ridiculous that the US Gov't will borrow money to give to its people.

Go to slate.com and click on the "Hillary is Tracy Flick" box about halfway down the page on the left side. Very funny - if you've seen the movie Election that is.
WooHoo!!!! New Indiana Jones Movie in May!!! My favorite movie hero. Too bad Harrison Ford got so creepy and ruined my Indy crush. Shia LeBoef (sp?) is in the movie as well, like him a lot too. I hope Sean Connery makes an appearance. Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDaaaa (Monkey brains) Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDaaDaaDaa (Booby trap) Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDAAAAAA (Whip) Da da-DA-da, da-DA-da, da-DA-da, da-DAAA-da da-DAAAAAAAAAA (Fedora)
No matter who wins, a vote is a sacred thing and should be used for someone you truly want to be the next leader of our country. Not voting for someone because you think your candidate does not have a chance of winning or because you would rather give it to someone who has a better chance of beating a candidate you really don't want in the White House is compromising with yourself and wasting your vote. If everybody thinks that voting for a third party candidate that does not stand much of a chance of winning is wasting a vote (and I'm sure that most people do), then we will never get away from this two party system that often makes people vote for someone they really do not want to vote for. I look forward to the day when the two party system is history and all elections are publicly funded so so that any qualified candidate can compete on an even field and not have to be beholden' to a political machine or donors.
Happy Valentine's Day to all. My girlfriend and I just had a great Valentine's day lunch together at the Chinese Buffet. Later tonight, Italian take-out dinner with wine by the fireplace in our living room and a couple of rented movies. We both agree it is too cold to go out tonight.
Yeah, I'm going to Florida the 27th to the 3rd. On behalf of Mom and Dad and Pat and Josh I invite you all down. Come one come all.
Seriously, it be even more fun if more people could come. I plan on lounging by the ocean and then lounging by the pool when I'm too tired from lounging at the ocean.
My uncle Walter (Grandma Straub's brother) knew Jimmy Hoffa quite well. Uncle Walter worked for a very big construction firm that did business world wide, For example after WWII they had a contract to rebuild much of Hiroshima. He was a troubleshooter for them and often got involved in labor disputes---not negotiating contracts but if a big job were being held up because some teamster thought that another tradesman was doing something that a teamster should have done, all of the teamsters would stop delivering materials to the job and construction halted. His company would send Uncle Walter to that jobsite to solve the problem and most of the time he'd end up negotiating with Hoffa. He said he always found Hoffa to be a man of his word. He was tough to deal with but when he gave you his word you could count on it if he said he would do something. I'm not sure if Uncle Walter ever graduated from high school. Dad
HILLARY'S FIRST NIGHT AS PRESIDENT January 21 2009
Hillary Clinton was sworn in today as President. She has disposed of Bill and is spending her first night alone in the White House. She has waited several years for this. FIRST NIGHT Suddenly! The ghost of George Washington appears to her, and Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?" Washington says,"Never tell a lie." "Ouch!" Says Hillary, "I don't know about that."
SECOND NIGHT The next night, the ghost of Thomas Jefferson appears... Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?" Jefferson says, "Listen to the people." "Oh hh! I really don't want to do that."
THIRD NIGHT On the third night, the ghost of Abe Lincoln appears... Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"
Dad...have you seen that "Hoffa" movie with Nicholson? I think you would like it..it's a rental now...in the movie he is portrayed that way you described above.
We're off the South Bend for Parent's Weekend at St. Mary's and then Chicago to see Desmond and Phelan Sunday night!
Hope Scotty Larson brings 'em in this Saturday at Sarah's!!
I can't wait to see Indy as a middle-aged aches-and-pains but still too cool for school adventurer. Just think of him as Indy and forget all about Lollipophead Space Girl.
My stomach has officially attained overhang status. Trolling for Notre Dame stories this morning I see "ND Upset By NIU Shooting" and my immediate reaction was "Damn, we lost to Northern Illinois?" My dog can poop anywhere he wants in the great outdoors. What's he do? He runs around to the front yard and poops on the walk right by the front steps. Not a problem now, frozen and all, but I see problems when it warms up. The last cat I watched for Mom and Dad (sorry Mom and Dad) used to poop on the little rug outside the shower.
My stomach has officially attained never-gonna-go-back status. We had a lovely, romantic Valentine's day dinner last night (thanks to Stevo) in front of the fireplace with spagetti & meatballs, a nice shiraz, a rose and chocolates. We had decided to stay in because it's just so darn cold out. Stevo rented three movies and let me pick, so we followed up our romantic dinner by watching....SNAKES ON A PLANE, even though I know he wanted to watch Shopgirl. We should have gone with his choice. There are good bad movies and bad bad movies, and SNAKES was one of the latter. I should say that I watched it, as Stevo promptly fell asleep. The only good part was the giant constrictor eating the snotty English guy's head. So if you haven't seen it yet, don't bother renting it. Really. You can't "make" a cult classic, it just happens, that's what I think.
The thing about SNAKES ON A PLANE that makes me laugh is Sam Jackson's famous quote "That is it! I have had it with the MFG snakes on this MFG plane!" comes about 2/3 of the way into the movie after the snakes have already killed both pilots and most of the passengers. Something really dumb sets him off and he yells the famous quote and I'm thinking - Really? You are just NOW frustrated with the snakes killing everyone on the plane? You weren't at all bothered by it for the previous 45 minutes of the movie?
Frank-There's a chance Microsoft will locate a "server farm" (sounds Orwellian, doesn't it?) in Iowa somewhere. You didn't pursue Google in CB but I'll try to keep you posted on this.
Interesting that Microsoft would be building server farms, isn't it? I thought the purchase of Yahoo! fell through. What else do you need nationwide server farms for if you're not a major search engine?
Also, the Google server farm in CB is located where it is because of some of the fiber optic (or whatever) infrastructure set up by the Air Force (SAC), isn't it? Does that mean the a potential Microsoft SF would be in or around CB as well?
I've been trying for weeks to download an update from Microsoft and can't get the site. If it's not something wrong with my computer (or its operator) Microsoft could use more servers. I've tried at 2:00AM and got the "can't find the site" message. I get to Microsoft, but can't get the download.
The algona realty site was created through a company that specializes in web hosting for realtors. We just uploaded photos and edited content - the tools and template of the site were already included. I could help you get yours off the ground if you'd like.
I also noticed that sistersarahs.com is already taken by a naughty site. What else would you call yourselves? sistersarahsalgona.com or sarahsalgona.com or something? You can also make a certified offer for sistersarahs.com but that could cost you hundreds. MIght be worth it in the long run though. Who knows? That's address I would type in if I were looking for your restaurant. And every time I would see Adult Friend Finders and things.

Don't anyone worry about the little bipolar child. McSlimy will save her and all the world's children.
Tom
Don't you mean O'Slimy? It's almost St. Patrick's day, for heaven's sake.
It takes a village, you know.
:-) Yes, that's what I always say and the inspiration behind everything I do for Donny. :-)
Hey, that's my line!
Nance...that is why you should follow your own intuition and go for Hillary (except she won't be the nominee).
Cathy, that sounds like a GREAT meal, what did Stevo have?
m.e.
I'm gonna vote for the Obamanator. Your passion (and, the poster for Alex) has won me over. Oh and I don't trust McCain.
I will be 18 (September) and caucussed (sp?) for Obama in Minnesota.

I may not have chocolate malts, but I have fudgy wudgy cake!
Hey Monica,
I hear you're headed to Florida at the end of the month... what dates? I've gotten some time off then and was thinking of going...
Hey Monica,
I hear you're headed to Florida at the end of the month... what dates? I've gotten some time off then and was thinking of going...
I will be playing at Sister Sarah's this Saturday...come out and enjoy!
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! I HOPE YOU ALL SENT ME NICE THINGS.
P
Happy Valentines Day!
On another note: Pardon me for my cluelessnes, but who is Alex?
lisa
Ha! Alex is my niece whom Mary Ellan acquired an autographed poster of Obama for. She didn't *really* post. :-)
I wish she'd just eat it....all she does is play with them and then they are in the house.
p
At least your cat doen't use waterboarding!!
Why don't we just use truth serum and put enemy captives into a nice sleep and talk??
We know a guy (from the Vietnam war) who interrogated "hooded" Viet Cong captives while hovering in a helicopter...the captives thought they were way high in the air, but really just a few feet up...they would talk rather than be thrown out...i think that's an ok tactic.
m.e.
As I prepare for your annual tax appointment: Each year, it blows me away that all of our gifted dinners (GALA...for one.) and the gift certificates we hand out...do not qualify as a donation, for tax purposes. Sigh. :-(
I like Obama but when he gets that really deep vibrato in his voice and does his best MLK, I feel like he's trying too hard.
Things don't look good for Hillary. Too bad, looks like I'm the only person in Illinois who was pulling for her.
Should be an presidential race.
excuse me, what I meant to say was:
Should be an exciting presidential race.
Why don't gift certificates or donated dinners count? If you declared the cost to you as the donation and not the retail value?
Tom
2 hours later....
my cat is still staked out by the dresser where the lizard got loose.
p
You'll find that lizard's head in your bed - Godfather style.

Ooooh...I watched "Hoffa" last night, with Jack Nicholson, I sorta felt sorry for Hoffa, he was just trying to help the poor truckers! haha Don't most people know that if you hang out with the mob there's an 80% chance you'll most likely die with a gun to the back of your head?
m.e.
thet 80% was scientifically researched.
Stevo...if there is, then McCain will win...and that would be sad:-(
m.e.
I love Stephen Colbert. I heart Stephen Colbert.
p
Mary - You should go rent the Jackie Presser Story now.
Once Black History Month is over people will no longer feel obligated to vote for Barak. Too bad the election will be in the bag by then. I just wonder what that will mean for the general election in Nombember...
Stevo-
I truly believe that we need to have our uncomfortable zone pushed in this area, pro-life, that is.
Lisa
And a watch?
HI Mia! We hope you are feeling great by your birthday!
We are paying off debt with our rebate - exactly what the gov't didn't want us to do. I think it's ridiculous that the US Gov't will borrow money to give to its people.

Pat - are you watching Little House episodes from the post-Manly era? Call your TV station and tell them to go back to the beginning!
Go to slate.com and click on the "Hillary is Tracy Flick" box about halfway down the page on the left side. Very funny - if you've seen the movie Election that is.
Or get your watch tuned up.
WooHoo!!!! New Indiana Jones Movie in May!!! My favorite movie hero. Too bad Harrison Ford got so creepy and ruined my Indy crush. Shia LeBoef (sp?) is in the movie as well, like him a lot too. I hope Sean Connery makes an appearance.
Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDaaaa (Monkey brains)
Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDaaDaaDaa (Booby trap)
Da DaDaDaaa, Da DaDAAAAAA (Whip)
Da da-DA-da, da-DA-da, da-DA-da, da-DAAA-da da-DAAAAAAAAAA (Fedora)
that theme song will be in my head all week
Grace, did the box get there today?

Dad
HILLARY'S FIRST NIGHT AS PRESIDENT
January 21 2009
Hillary Clinton was sworn in today as President. She has disposed of Bill and is spending her first night alone in the White House.
She has waited several years for this.
FIRST NIGHT
Suddenly!
The ghost of George Washington appears to her, and Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"
Washington says,"Never tell a lie."
"Ouch!" Says Hillary, "I don't know about that."
SECOND NIGHT
The next night, the ghost of Thomas Jefferson appears... Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"
Jefferson says,
"Listen to the people."
"Oh hh! I really don't want to do that."
THIRD NIGHT
On the third night, the ghost of Abe Lincoln appears...
Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"
Lincoln says,
"Go to the theater”
Tom
Dad...have you seen that "Hoffa" movie with Nicholson? I think you would like it..it's a rental now...in the movie he is portrayed that way you described above.
We're off the South Bend for Parent's Weekend at St. Mary's and then Chicago to see Desmond and Phelan Sunday night!
Hope Scotty Larson brings 'em in this Saturday at Sarah's!!
m.e.
I can't wait to see Indy as a middle-aged aches-and-pains but still too cool for school adventurer. Just think of him as Indy and forget all about Lollipophead Space Girl.
I talked to Uncle Bob today - he's in Puerto Rico. He said it's warmer than here. He sounded good.
Monica and Frank and whoever comes. There are also plenty of local venues from which to continue your terrorist watching..

My stomach has officially attained overhang status.
Trolling for Notre Dame stories this morning I see "ND Upset By NIU Shooting" and my immediate reaction was "Damn, we lost to Northern Illinois?"
My dog can poop anywhere he wants in the great outdoors.
I saw that movie at a drive in, and it was a perfect drive in movie. I don't think it would be a good rental.
p
The thing about SNAKES ON A PLANE that makes me laugh is Sam Jackson's famous quote "That is it! I have had it with the MFG snakes on this MFG plane!" comes about 2/3 of the way into the movie after the snakes have already killed both pilots and most of the passengers. Something really dumb sets him off and he yells the famous quote and I'm thinking - Really? You are just NOW frustrated with the snakes killing everyone on the plane? You weren't at all bothered by it for the previous 45 minutes of the movie?
I just walked to the beach. It's gorgeous out.
I'm still not tan, though.
Bright and sunny and 6 degrees here.
Council Bluffs - the server center of the universe. Come on down!
If it were anywhere other than Iowa it wouldn't be a server "farm".
Tom
Joe3, thanks for the tip.
Des, I can see Mircrosoft setting up server farms. they're huge, and sell a lot of software and do a lot of web hosting and whatnot.
Aside from Council Bluffs i'm not sure where they would set up. I don't know what cities in Iowa have for bandwidth from circuit providers.
My cats have chewed through the cable of yet another cell phone charger. 3rd one. off to buy another. i keep forgetting to put them away.
I've been trying for weeks to download an update from Microsoft and can't get the site. If it's not something wrong with my computer (or its operator) Microsoft could use more servers. I've tried at 2:00AM and got the "can't find the site" message. I get to Microsoft, but can't get the download.
WooHoo our taxes are done and the return, albeit small, will pay off Eli and Liam's tution. :-)
yep. that's exactly why they need to go to a distributed server farm. different areas of the country would download from farms in their region.
Oh and their tuItion too!
That was a capital i...not an l. Whatever...I'm done. :-)
Has everyone seen the new Algona Realty website?
Algona Realty
Very professionally done. Who did it? Can they do one for Sister Sarah's?
My only suggestion for the algona realty website is a link to area attractions with the World's Largest Cheeto as the headliner.
Tom
It looks just great!
P
Happy birthday Mia. We love you and will see you in a few hours at your birthday party,
Bompy and Nini
The algona realty site was created through a company that specializes in web hosting for realtors. We just uploaded photos and edited content - the tools and template of the site were already included. I could help you get yours off the ground if you'd like.
I also noticed that sistersarahs.com is already taken by a naughty site. What else would you call yourselves? sistersarahsalgona.com or sarahsalgona.com or something? You can also make a certified offer for sistersarahs.com but that could cost you hundreds. MIght be worth it in the long run though. Who knows? That's address I would type in if I were looking for your restaurant. And every time I would see Adult Friend Finders and things.
sarahs.com is also taken.
How 'bout:
sistersarahsisthebestrestaurantinthewholewideworlpleasecomeandeatherecuzwehavebillstopay.com?
Des~ Okay, okay...I was just kidding...how 'bout?
SISTERSARAHSrestaurant&bar.com?
Or, is that too long in the world of .com's?
