Ed - mark me down as some one who wants to. But I can't. I'll be cookin' stuff. Sounds like fun, though.

Why oh why does my baby sleep all day and cry much of the night? And why does my three year old get sick literally every other week?

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, Nance sent me the list, but I still need current info for Lisa, Don and Pat if anyone has it.

Thank you!

Anonymous said...

Emily-you have my sympathy. I mean this sincerely.

Anonymous said...

Hi, Current addresses: Lisa is 254 Kenmore Ave., Council Bluffs, 50513. Don is 180 Lime Valley Drive, Mankato MN 56001. Pat's land line is 561 588 9918. I have their address but I'm not sure where I have it.
Do we have a sense of history? In all this discussion of politics, I don't notice it. Think of the hundreds of thousands of deaths, maybe millions, in the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. Then additional hundreds of thousands in Korea and Vietnam compared to less than 4000 in Iraq over the past 5 years---about 800 per year on the average--- which is probably less than the number of young children killed in the wombs of their mothers every month in this country alone. There is lots of outrage over the war in Iraq (and I agree that it did not meet the Catholic test for a "just war" and we should not have started it) but where is the outrage over the infants killed in the womb? Which candidate is most likely to try to stop that outrage?
Think about it.
The wise old man.

Anonymous said...

What about the iraqis dying. There are a hell of a lot more than over 4000.

Many thought Bush would! He doesn't care. How come you say "we" when referring to starting the war, but not in reference to abortion..."we" are not aborting, and only those among us who voted for Bush can say "we" started the war!

m.e.

Anonymous said...

ed, can't go. sorry.

is it must me, or does Huckabee look like a feral kevin spacey?

Anonymous said...

Just thought I'd mention this....
Regardless of what they said as candidates regarding abortion, when Reagan and Bush I were presidents, abortions went up by about 10%. Under Clinton they went down more than 6%. Under Dubya, they started back up again, about 4% I believe, but leveled off, as have abortions everywhere for some reason. Those small percentages represent thousands of babies killed or not killed. If I were to choose based on historical precedent on the abortion issue alone, I would vote Democratic. On the issue of Supreme Court justices, I read somewhere (sorry to be so vague) that Roberts said he doesn't see how he could vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. It's not going to happen in the courts or in any legislature. If our society doesn't value people, it will never value unborn babies. I honestly don't see how any president who spends billions on a war over an oil field on the other side of the planet while trying to slash funding at home on social programs that include mother and child nutrition, Head Start, rural health care and veterans benefits in a thousand sneaky ways AND add in tax cuts for the very wealthy can possibly call himself pro-life, but ours does, and gets away with it. Abortion is a huge issue, but it is not the only pro-life issue. As long as we are able to live with the idea of homeless guys dying in alleys, we will live with abortions.

Brian and I decided that if Richard Nixon and Kevin Spacey could produce a child, it would look like Hukabee.

Anonymous said...

Molly (and Frank),

I was just thinking about how Huckabee looked liked Spacey's older, uncool brother. I like the Nixon and Spacey offspring thing. I will steal it without footnote only because you let me die on the Oregon Trail.

I wish I could make it to the Creighton game but I have Valentine's Day dinner that night. Maybe Jen would rather go to a basketball game instead. I'll ask her.

I just have to remember that if I go on a road trip from Kansas City to Portland, eating my friends along the way is not an option.

Yesterday was Nebraska's first ever Dem caucus and the formerly almost nonexistent democratic party was overwhelmed by the attendance. In Douglas County a few weeks ago, they were preparing for 3000 voters and they had 14000. Someone standing in a long line was heard to remark that they should have had the Republicans organize it.

Anonymous said...

The way I see it, regardless of the statistics from past administrations, (by the way, 4% is less than 6%), regardless of whether or not a politician lives up to the promises he or she made while campaigning, whether or not once in office an elected official sticks to and acts on the principles he or she said they believe in, and all other issues aside, if one choses to vote for a candidate who is running in a party that has a plank in their platform endorsing pro-choice, then by voting for that candidate it is the same as supporting that position.

Creighton is on ESPNU tonight at 6:00 PM playing the hated SIU who has something like a 10 game winning streak agaist Creighton in the regular season. (Athough Creighton did beat them in the MVC Finals last year.)

Any more takers on the game? Good times to be had.

Ed, and Grace, it is very tempting to think about coming to the Creighton-Bradley game next Sat. Don't know if we can though. What is the deadline to order tickets? Will we be able to buy them at the door if we decied at the last minute to come?

Anonymous said...

Frank - congrats
Mely - hope the new meds work for you!
Who said those who voted for Bush are responsible for this war? Congress voted for it too. All but one senator, wasn't it? Hillary voted for war. Congress also passed the Patriot Act, NCLB, and all the tax cuts. Check out your favorite candididates' voting records at http://thomas.loc.gov/home/rollcallvotes
Past voting activity speaks louder than campaign promises.

Pat...did you win the wheelbarrow contest?? Is there a pic of Josh carrying you?

Yes, we won the wheelbarrow portion. Nope there is no photo of Josh carrying me. He carried me a nontraditional way - not with my legs around his neck - and i guess I wasn't as photogenic as some of the others.

Hi, I'm not sure who among you have or have not seen Pat & Josh's photo in the Palm Beach Post, but here are directions you can use to see it:
1) Go to Google and type in "Palm Beach Post.com"
2) Click on "News, Sports. Weather, Classifieds, etc."
3) Scroll down to the reference to Finlandia Days (I think it's near the bottom on the right side.)
4) Several photos come up, I think 12 of them. Pat & Josh are in the middle row on the left end.
5) Click on the photo to enlarge it and get the news story.

I know that most, if not all, of you do not need such detail, but I am still in awe of this technology so I think I have to describe it in detail.
We stopped to see Pat & Josh for a few minutes on our way back from Tampa last night and saw the trophies that they won.
Dad

Anonymous said...

Hello again,
I just went back to see if my directions were right and I noticed that "News, Sports, Weather, etc." did not appear. This time it was a reference to the fact that it is a newspaper published in Palm Beach County. But then if you hit that you will get the various news categories and headlines which include the reference to Finlandia Days. Also, when you get there and hit the video option you'll get a quick glimpse of Josh carrying Pat in the wife carrying contest. His face flashes by but all you can see of Pat is the back of her jeans. Dad

I heard that. I kind of miss that place. Kind of a "Northern Exposure" lifestyle. High drama at the coffee shop over who is mad at who. No wonder they all smoke dope and drink like fish. Nothing at all to do. Unless you want to drive an hour and a half to Bemidji. They have a Target there.

Hillary's sinking. Looks like McSlimy'll be the Dem. Maybe his wife could be his running mate. I don't think, if McSlimy were elected, that he'd make one full term.
I'm in agreeance with Stevo.

Anonymous said...

We need change. McSlimy's the man. The country needs fixed.

Anonymous said...

I did Stevo..she's impressive, Mom and I saw her at a home reception here in Algona (the old Bradley house, now Farnam's) standing room only, she talked for an hour without any note cards! I also really like the way she dresses!

m.e.

Anonymous said...

I'm in agreeance also. Except one point of disagreeance or rather a semidisagreeance about something Stevo said. I hesitate to call any well spoken African American as articulate. I know Stevo isn't condescending nor am I. But it does have an air of false patronage when you say they are articulate - as though we should be surprised by this.

Are you in agreeance?

Give it up Tom...time to announce a McSlimy Special...include all the colors of the food wheel, tossed together in a brilliant new way and spiced up with new ideas and served by a very articulate wait staff!

Anonymous said...

What's a food wheel? Does it have something to do with eating a lot and then things spinning around? That would explain all the colors. No use doing it-Ronald Mcdonald and his wife Pork Patty would just steal the idea.
Also-am I spelling "agreeance" correctly? If not it needs fixed.
I need a large chocolate malt, cheeseburger and fries too. Boy that sounds good.

What's Powell going to announce? That he's doing the honorable thing and shooting himself in the head for misrepresenting to congress and the public about WMD and the urgent need to invade Iraq? Condi Rice is an even worse shill.

Anonymous said...

Watch that Liberty cabbage, Ed. It'll blow out the Malt Liquor.

I like Colin Powell.

I remember before we invaded Iraq Randy saying something that if those weapons are never found, we are sure to look like idots before our allies.

Powell will not run until he has overwhelmingly superior forces - it's in a agreementcy with his doctrine.

Larry King looks like one of the Martians in Mars Attacks. He IS one of the Martians from Mars Attacks, he just made a deal with the president, whose head needs exploded.

I'm in agreeance with Mary on Powell. You must have seen the same Sunday morning show I did.

Joe3, your head needs examined. Might as well get your prostrate checked while you're there.

Tom you need to get you one of those food wheels. Then you'll know what goes with what. Nowadays you can even serve adjacent items together, and just a few years back, that was a no-no.

Mia survived her suguwy, but is not happy about her sore throat. We're going by later with ice cream and popsicles, oddly enough polar opposites on the food wheel. Her throat needs soothed.

Pat, don't worry. James can be the son Pa never had. I hope Laura's not jealous (foreshadowing...)

Here's my favorite line from everything Flannery O'Connor ever wrote: " 'She would of been a good woman,' the Misfit said, 'if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.' "

Anonymous said...

Well, Albert is the son he never had, but James will be the second son he never had. James is Jason Bateman.

There is a book out there - very good - it's about Flannery O'Connor, Dorothy Day, Walker Percy and Thomas Merton. It's kind of a joint biography literary criticism all in one. They were all Catholic and publishing at the same time and had some correspondence between each other.

These are the thing Laura never mentioned in her books.

More from Newsmax....

FBI Internet Alert: Beware Valentine E-Card

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 1:20 PM

The FBI released Tuesday a warning for Internet users:

If you unexpectedly receive a Valentine’s Day e-card, be careful. It may not be from a secret admirer, but instead might contain the Storm Worm virus.

With the holiday approaching, be on the lookout for spam e-mails spreading the Storm Worm malicious software (malware). The e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve the electronic greeting card (e-card). Once the user clicks on the link, malware is downloaded to the Internet-connected device and causes it to become infected and part of the Storm Worm botnet. A botnet is a network of compromised machines under the control of a single user. Botnets are typically set up to facilitate criminal activity such as spam e-mail, identity theft, denial of service attacks, and spreading malware to other machines on the Internet.

The Storm Worm virus has capitalized on various holidays in the last year by sending millions of e-mails advertising an e-card link within the text of the spam e-mail. Valentine's Day has been identified as the next target.

Be wary of any e-mail received from an unknown sender. Do not open any unsolicited e-mail and do not click on any links provided.

re: Hillary and Fox news.

The reason she says that Fox is more fair then MSNBC is that Chris Matthews (from what I can tell) either hates Hillary or loves Obama and so everything that comes out of his mouth is slanted in that direction.
