Monica, yes, Molly did make that cake. Mia told Molly everything that she wanted on her cake and Molly complied. The inside was pink (strawberry) with strawberry ice cream on the side.
There once was a big boy named Jude Who looked like a pretty cool dude. In a casual stance never wetting his pants He conveyed a relaxed attitude.
How are Jude's mom and brother doing? Mia's birthday was fun - she has all girl cousins on Brian's side, so there was only one boy there. The living room was awash in pink, princessy stuff. Someone gave her a bop bag, but the boy karate-kicked a leak in it before the party ended so then there was only girly stuff.
Happy birthday, Jude! You look like such a big boy! Love your picture! We can't wait until you live in the Upper Midwest!
We had fun at Mia's party yesterday. I have never seen so many princess-y things in my life! Pat (regarding our discussing living in the mouth of the wolf) you would have been amazed at the impact of Disney on little girl-dom.
It would appear (based on an earlier posting of you'n) that you, too, consider Mike Huckabee's leanings to be more than a tad bit libertarian.
Here's my opinion on the party: I have yet to meet a libertarian who doesn't come off as more than a little wacky... views so outside the mainstream that you can hardly hold a conversation with them.
WooHoo...yah it's been a collllllllllllllld winter...lots-o-October Birthdays! Congratulations Molly and Brian! You are wonderful parents and baby Nance(?)is lucky to have you! :-)
Accidental plagiarism has a long and honorable history in the Democratic Party and that's all I have to say about that.
Yay! I thought the top of my head would come off if Molly and Brian didn't make their announcement soon. Gonna be babeez-a-poppin at the farm this Labor Day. Let's see, that leaves one free bed....
Is Ron Paul still running? There's a guy with views way outside the mainstream and he was, at one point, a Libertarian. McSlimey's been stumping how important HOPE is, a theme he stole from Ron Paul's campaign and slogan "Hope for America".
Is someone else pregnant? Or will Molly be the only one popping? Did I miss something?
Congrats Molly, Brian and family. How are the girls reacting to the news? Catie is getting old enough to be grossed out by the whole baby making thing.
Wow Molly and Brian! Congrats. ANd to repeat what Monica said, are ther more babies a poppin in Sept?
We had a nice, quiet little party here for Jude. Soctt decorated and we had pizza and cake. Jude insisted that he wanted a round chocolate cake with pink frosting with a truck on it. I was too lazy to make it - plus I don't have a round cake pan. The store wasn't sure if they were making a cake for a girl or a boy.
Congratulations, Molly! We are so happy to know there will be a baby to hold that we don't have to get up in the night with!
When we talked about it after Mia's party, Emma was excited, but Mary was sad. She wanted your family to have two little girls just like ours.
Mary is student of the week this week at school. She had a big paper "T-Shirt" to decorate with photos and things she wanted to draw. When we were making the list of things she wanted to include on her shirt she just kept saying, "Detail, I want detail on the shirt."
Congratulations on your new addition to the family. I can understand why you may hesitate to ask. But, please, do not for one minute think I would not be honored it you named your child Thomas. Or even Thomas Champion.
Your humble uncle, Tom Greatest Graveyard Game Champion EVER.
My manager Renee (who many of you know) learned last week that her youngest son just joined the Marines. She was hoping he wouldn't choose this career option but he did. He signed the papers on Friday of last week. He ships out 5 days later on Wednesday of this week. Renee mentioned that her son received some sort of certificate saying "congratulations on your delayed entry blah, blah, blah..."
I don't have the heart to tell Renee that if 5 days from signing to shipping out is considered a "delayed entry" then they must be hard up for troops in Iraq or elsewhere.
Also, the recruiter has told her son that the job he is requesting (avionics mechanic) is a go. That he will get this job. However, Renee realizes that this may be a bunch of BS. She's worried about her son. She should be. On the upside - I don't think he will make it out of boot camp.
I have it on the best authority that they are not allowed to beat you up in boot camp any more. However, you will be encouraged to beat up on each other in all sorts of combat-training ways. It's the mental pressure that gets most of them. He won't be allowed to call home for months. I guess they have shortened up the basic training schedule by several weeks (bad move). The only way he will get out of basic training is on a stretcher or in handcuffs. They probably need avionics machanics, so they might actually let him do that if he's smart enough. But the smallest screwup between now and the end of basic will be sufficient excuse to put him wherever they want him.
My previous post, wherein I pointed out that Obama's book that he wrote several years ago called "The Audacity of Hope," the fact that he's used Hope in every campaign since, and his national convention speech four years ago pulverize Ron Paul's weak little girlyman hope as a campaign slogan, didn't go on the blog So here it is. I also clarified that nobody else is pregnant that I know of, I was just referring to Sam and Baby R.
1/4 rotisserie style peruvian (or is it peruvian rotisserie style) chicken, white meat, with yellow rice and black beans, and a variety of sauces to spice up the side dishes. SO YUMMY and all for $4.50.
Hi Monica...The drive back was really terrible!! We took the northern route thru Galena (because we stopped at IKEA) from Rockford on it was bad...Hwy 20 closed, we headed north out of Dyersville to Hwy3 the Sherrif's dept. was closing it in that county...we stopped in Strawberry Point and spent the night. Mike says it was the worst he's EVER driven in. I wish we had been closer to Cedar Rapids!! Or, Jim and Erin's. I just heard that I80 is still closed in parts of eastern Iowa. (Strawberry Point is a neat town, Mia would like it...Dad and Mom stopped there on their first trip to Iowa together.)
Our weekend at St. Mary's was GREAT, so nice to see Caitlin, we had alot of fun and met other parents from SMC and ND (at the bars the kids took us to!)...Sunday evening in Chicago we just stayed in at Desmond's and had pizza and wine. Desmond is working on Gatorade...and Phelan's CD (with EYES EARS NOSE) is almost ready to be released...it's really really good!
Ooooh, I can't wait for the CD. I'll try to learn to like Gatorade. I remember reading a little story (I think it was in Trout Fishing in America) about a boy who would make a gallon of grape Kool-aid every day from a half-gallon-size envelope of kool-aid, without any sugar, and drink it slowly. That's sort of how Gatorade tastes to me but maybe with sugar.
have you ever noticed that the news refers to the Obama Campaign but then talks about the Clinton Political Machine.... is that biased or is that just me?
I haven't noticed, Frank but if it's true it certainly is biased if even on an unconscious level. All I know is that MSNBC is all Obama - all the time.
I think it must be a personal opinion, about news coverage. Because Mike and I think NBC is very conservative. I think MSNBC is VERY pro Hillary... m.e.
i never watch msnbc, so i wouldn't know. i just noticed this the last couple days, what with the primary here in Wisconsin today the news coverage has been fierce.

The speeches were not stolen, he and the other guy used a common speechwriter, the other guy (whose speech Tom says is stolen) is a friend, and is "cool" with it...when using a common speechwriter these things can easily happen. At least he didn't steal gestures and accent inflection like Biden did when he stole his speech!
Are you talking about the one that ends "We are who we've been waiting for" because that wasn't the other guy's either, it's a common quote that has been used by many and has been attributed to some Native American prayer/proclamation for over 100 years. And, besides, you know, great minds think alike.

The above message mentioning the wind chill and no school was from Lisa.
Happy Birthday, Kelli! Have fun and don't freeze!
Woo-Hoo! No confirmation class tonight! Our policy is whenever they cancel school we cancel all evening classes so everyone doesn't have to call the office, which they will anyway. Our high today will be -1 I think, but it's sunny. I'm going to have dinner at home at a normal time with my husband and maybe Joe for the first time this week.
I am going to collect my children later today and tonight we are making lasagne. Mmmmm. Thick, rich, dripping with sausage, provolone, mozzarella and parmesian. Thank goodness for no-boil noodles. Mary Laurel may just make us turn on the fire place.

When do you get posession on your new abode?
Lisa
Hey, Tom! I was just rereading the blog and realized that you gave Yankee Imperialism the credit for the fact that Fidel Castro lives in the same universe as us and thus is subject to the same laws of time and physics. You should be on Fox News!
How come some people click "anonymous" and then, sign their name? Did you know that you can click "name/url" and then, type it in?
Super cute. I'm pulling away from Seton, this morning, and I see Joe4and Betty pulling in. We all excitedly wave and smile at each other. The cute thing is...when yah don't see Joe4's "man-body" his sweet smiling face looks like he did when he was 8! Hee, hee. Super cute. :-)
Wow, you northerners are a hardy lot. Our schools close if the wind chill is -10 or below, or something like that.
We had a two-hour late start.
Get out the lawn chairs and blankets to watch..."The Moon, the Lord of the Rings and the Heart of the Lion"
tonight's lunar eclipse 9pm central, last one till 2010, as the moon darkens Saturn and Regulus will sandwich the moon, Regulus is the bright star in the constellation Leo.

I have tried many times to click "Name / URL" and then type in my name. It won't accept me or my comments. So there.
Regarding the Amish fake fireplaces: I knew about that and found it to be the funniest thing.

That's weird.
Here's a good article on McSlimy from Slate.com.
The link is: http://www.slate.com/id/2184611
A portion of the article...
"There is also plenty of self-hype to knock down. Obama is not as bold as he claims and doesn't tell as many hard truths as he professes to. Tom
Plus he steals crock pots.
A. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters? It's either Obama or McCain. We could do worse.
B. Have you asked for your crockpot back?
C. Will it ever be warm?
Don't forget he steals speeches also. I saw the side by side comparison of the 2 speeches. It was a verbatim rip off of the other guy's speech.
Tom
He gave it back...even tho it was late it was chock full of original recipes, good for everybody.
