Are you happy with the election results?? I am pleased, with the exception of one district representative (Michele Bachman) who is a psycho freak, and the governor.
By the way, totally different topic, Josh is going to investigate watch jobs in Ireland. They need watchmakers, as does England. Wouldn't that be cool, to live in Ireland for a couple of years? I suppose it would be either Galway or Dublin...which would you rather live in?
OK-Who voted for Daniel Ortega? Probably more watches in Dublin but I'd prolly rather live in Galway. The country's so small you could go to Dublin for a weekend anytime; It's like driving to Ft. Dodge. If you live in Ireland you have to figure out how to make money by taking photos of stuff and making a book of it. It takes no brains or talent (ever see the Doors of Irish Pubs book) and there is apparently an insatiable thirst in the US for anything Irish. You could do the real Ireland, taking photos of places where US films were made (Quiet Man, Far and Away, etc) or you could walk around taking pictures of drunks and do a book "Drunks of Ireland". I dunno. What do you think? By the way, I don't think "Watches of Ireland" would sell.
I agree, but I don't think amending the state constitution is the way to go. And also, the way it was worded civil unions are at risk as well as domestic partner benefits.
I was out late at Demcratic parties...Nebraska ALMOST became go big blue. We re-elected a Dem. Senator by a landslide and all 3 House seats (always a HUGE republican win) were tight untill late, but did stay republican. County seats mostly Democratic wins. Nationally I heard an amazing stat, not one incumbant Democrat lost! I wish it had been a Pres. election year. Pat go to Galway, don't pass go!
I like Lieberman too although I disagree with him about Iraq. Here in Southwest Iowa we reelected Congressman Steve King who (ahem) says one of his heroes is Joe McCarthy. I'm so proud. The Dems threw sacrificial lamb Joyce Schulte at him and didn't give her any money. I didn't see a single Schulte commercial. I realize you have to spend your money where you think it has a chance to do some good, but come on! Fuhrer King gets another 6 years to embarrass the state of Iowa with his idiocy. Tom, hunker down. I really don't think Democrats are any more inclined to behave with civility and the willingness to negotiate than Republicans (although I do have to remind you of their (R's) arrogant behavior during the Contract on America fiasco). However, maybe a female Speaker might be more inclined to reach a solution to a given problem than to win a pissing contest, since she's never been in one and doesn't want to. We'll just have to see.
Ed - Ryan voted but left the governor bubble blank. We both agreed the choices were bad, and he couldn't decide. He meant to go back and fill it in at the end but forgot. Then decided he forgot on purpose. Did anyone fill out a punchcard? I had fill-in-the-bubble ballots. When I got to the school to vote and gave them my name, the officials immediately asked me if I was related to that other Ortega who'd been there earlier. Ryan must've chatted them all up.
I saw a video of Pelosi taking her daughter shopping for a wedding dress (she has lots of kids), she took charge and they had the dress in about half an hour...maybe she'll run "her house" that way! Heehee...DON'T BE AFRAID.
Pelosi has been demonized by the right. She might take a radical stance on everything or she might decide the voters are mostly mad about the obstructionist arrogant do-nothing Congress of the last few years and try to arrive at consensus where possible. I'm really sick of each side spending all their time and energy blocking whatever the other guys are doing. We'll see. The good news is: right now Cheney is hunting in South Dakota with the Republican senator who unseated Daschle last time. Maybe only one of them will come back.
by the way, you gotta love the L.A. news. On election day, the news promos were: "Ooops I'm getting divorced. Britney and K-Fed split. And we'll have elction results."
Embryonic stem cell research is years away from finding a cure for anything...johns hopkins is stopping their research cause of mutations and tumors... Adult stem cells work (like Randy's Mom...cured her cancer using her own stem cells)at the Nebraska Med Center they use adult stem cells, and people come from all over the U.S. and are cured ...we need to publicize this!
As you may know, I am not particularly politically savvy. However, I do have a little ditty to share with you about the race for Governor in Minnesota...along the lines of...gossip. :-<>
My sister went to St.Thomas and met Tim Pawlenty...they dated (a couple of times) and smooched and then, she found out that he had a girlfriend so she 86'd that deal. This girlfriend, eventually, became his wife!
You are so right about Boswell. That ad alone is what made me make up my mind to vote against him.
We had other stem cell ads from other politicians saying things about supporting stem cell research so diabetic kids can go outside and play with their friends. The purposeful misinformation that was cast about on embroynic stem cell research was astounding and frightening.
A related but separate problem lies in all of those petri dish babies whose parents have said they have enough kids and that they don't want to do anything with the fertilized eggs they do have. Those eggs are in some kind of holding pattern... is so sad.
I have to go home and get the baked ziti I made for someone who broke her leg.
What about Dan McCarney? The reporters were dogging the players about McCarney's future. It was fierce.
We hired a professional painter to paint our entire main level right after we moved in. Shortly after he was here I noticed that the wall behind the toilet was not painted completely. The next time I saw him...I mentioned this. His response, "You'll have to get one of your kids to reach behind it with their little arms!" Does that answer your question?
Dan McCarney "resigns" as ISU football coach, bringing an end to his short-lived status as the Dean of Big 12 coaches. His last home game is Nov. 18 against despicable Missou, and I think I'll have to go. I heard a snippet of his statement and he was pretty choked up. the new AD, Pollard, has shown a pretty quick discard, canning the basketball coach last year. I know a guy who, this morning, E-mailed the AD telling him to consider hiring Kirk Doll, linebacker coach for the Broncos, former assistant at ND (under Davies and Holtz), Tulsa and Arizona (John Cooper),LSU (Nick Saban) and Texas A&M(R.C. Slocum). Doll was a graduate assistant at Iowa State where he met his wife, a Reding from St. Joe. He's a very good coach and a kick-butt recruiter with ties all through the Southwest, Texas, Louisiana, etc. Bring back the Cyclonic Maelstrom!
I'm going to see Bill Clinton this Sat. morning at a luncheon for the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS...I'm very excited! I'll ask him any question you want to submit!
When I painted my new office I just could not move this giant ugly metal desk with shelves on top of it, so there was a big unpainted patch behind it that was revealed when they tore apart my office to get at the plumbing. Everyone thought it was pretty funny. The good part is that once they moved that desk, I got them to dismantle it and get it out of there. The bad news is that it served me as a filing cabinet (2 big drawers), work table, bookshelf and general catchall. I've been going around to all the buildings scrounging up bookshelves, but I'm going to have to clean up my act. As soon as the hole in the wall is patched up, that is.
Although I don't own any, I wouldn't sell the Wyeth if you weren't planning on selling it before the drop. Remember, you are supposed to buy low and sell high - not the other way around.
I am up 87% since the beginning of the year on my stocks. My goal was to double my money in the year and I think I will do it. I have (of course) been taking incredible risks in getting this return.

We told the kids last night, we were sort of worried about how Gillian would handle it but she really took it in stride. We sold her on being close to cousins, snow, and no year round schools.

Probably more watches in Dublin but I'd prolly rather live in Galway. The country's so small you could go to Dublin for a weekend anytime; It's like driving to Ft. Dodge.

Pat- go Galway. If rap has taught us anything it's that west coast rules.
Tom - love your optimism. You're just a wriggly puppy glass-is-half-full type of guy.
WI passed a gay marriage ban. I am dissapointed but not surprised.
I agree, but I don't think amending the state constitution is the way to go. And also, the way it was worded civil unions are at risk as well as domestic partner benefits.
Why on earth wouldn't you choose to go to Ireland?
Here are the Polls that I care about:
Creighton: #23 Preseason USA Today Poll; #19 AP Poll.
it's the internet, blogging... spelling doesn't matter.
hmmm, ys... vwls r fr lsrs.
If the government shouldn't be in the marriage business, then why can they tell certain people they AREN'T allowed to marry?
I e-mailed my congressman to let him know that I didn't vote for him because he runined my football game with his negative ads.
He won anyway.

I wonder who the next icky freak Bush will find to run the Defense Department will be.
from cnn.com:
Former CIA chief Robert Gates, who headed that agency from 1991 until 1993, will be nominated to take over as defense secretary, Bush said Wednesday.
Gates is now president of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
how long before an independant council is set up, i wonder?
council? counsel? one of them lawyers what investigates the president.

I don't think it made you sound cocky. It just sounded like you were very complimentary and supportive toward your staff. What was on the menu?
Who is Pawlenty?
Vilsack is announcing his run for the presidency today. Too bland, too generic. I can never remember what he looks like.
Tim Pawlenty was and now is again (I think) the Governor of Minnesota.
Vilsack doesn't have a chance.
Did she make out with Jesse the Body too?
No, I did.
Nanci Pelosi wants to put me out of a job.
True story!
How do you get wallpaper off from behind a toilet? The bath is ready to be painted except this small area. It'll drive me nuts to leave it.
Only 3 baths, 2 bedrooms and a huge foyer to go.
We hired a professional painter to paint our entire main level right after we moved in. Shortly after he was here I noticed that the wall behind the toilet was not painted completely. The next time I saw him...I mentioned this. His response, "You'll have to get one of your kids to reach behind it with their little arms!"
Does that answer your question?
Monica,
Paint over it. Who'll see it?
OOOOhhh! How I hate politics! Every one is soo.... phoney.
Wyeth has lost close to 7% of it's value since election night.

Oh no! My Wyeth. This is supposed to be part of my down payment on a house money.(If we ever buy one.) Should I dump it? I have 650 shares.
i'd hold it. this is just a panic drop. credit suisse just upgraded it to a buy.
I'm going to see Bill Clinton this Sat. morning at a luncheon for the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS...I'm very excited! I'll ask him any question you want to submit!
ask him what his favorite brand of cisgar is. i double dare you.
I have a question. I have a nook in my armpit that my razor just cannot get to. Any suggestions? I'll entertain suggstions from family and Bill.
hey, pat, why is Michele Bachman a psycho freak? just curious.

Em - try a nose hair trimmer.
Mary- tell Clinton that he ought to get his penis back from Hillary.
Which guy on "Ed"was he? (Don't say the goofy one)
Stupid stocks. I almost sold some to make some two weeks ago but decided to wait until after the first of the year.
They are supposed to be coming out with some new wonder drug soon that should help it go up a bit.
Em,
Pluck them.
I have a huge cyst in my armpit. If I had to shave it, it would be hard to shave around.
The doctor shot it full of cortizone yesterday. I'll keep you all posted on it's progress. perhaps I'll even include a picture.
I voted using a touch screen polling booth. I don't think I did it right because at the end it spit out movie tickets.
Hot wax.

As far as the comment to tell Bill to get his "you know what" back from Hillary...I asked for QUESTIONS!
I have a feeling Bill knows where IT is.
I can't imagine ANYONE can think he's pussywhipped...George W. has been pussywhipped by all the idiots from his Dad's day, and he paid for it on Tuesday!
But, what's so sad are the lives lost from their aggresive foolishness and lies to the American people.
The only thing Bill lied about was his thing (what's it called?)!
Jim and Erin...what's new?
My lucky socks came through again. We will be moving to the quad cities shortly. Don't know which side of the river we will end up on.
We would like to get the kids into their new school right after the holiday break but it will be tough to find and close on a house in that time.
We told the kids last night, we were sort of worried about how Gillian would handle it but she really took it in stride. We sold her on being close to cousins, snow, and no year round schools.
I bet you could get a great deal on a house. Someone trying to get it sold before the end of the year.
Have fun. It won't be stressful at all.
Congratulations Jim!
Do you mean Jim and Erin?
Allright - another place to take a nap and get a sandwich when I am driving between Algona and Chicago!
Yee haw! Congratulations. Isn't there such a thing as a moline tractor? Wouldn't you be in the belly of the wolf?

Ed, can you tell us all how to double our money in stocks or is it more of an insider trading/Enron kind of deal? Is it all in petroleum futures? Or just in the highly volatile market of Polish rectified spirits?

Jim, I'm so glad to see that you're offering up board to weary I-80 travellers. Monica and Joe moved and wont tell me where to.
Will you be in the quad cities before thanksgiving?
just kidding monica.
Wyeth just keeps dropping. My dreams of a new roof and bath just keep dwindling away.
Hear, hear, Tom. Only don't stay away.
Yay, Jim & Erin! And Kids! I bet Erin's family is happy too. You will arrive just in time for real winter. Do you have a green snowblower?
Tom, Don't cave in to anon...you're only hurting us "and you"!
TEFLON...it's a dirty word! I always think about all the banged up teflon pans at Goodwill stores, etc, purchased by unknowing people. Call them cancer cookers! OUTLAW USED TEFLON!
TOM, people will think it's the Democrats silenced you...you must roar!
Tom & Nance - I have gotten back a couple emails, even though I sent them using the "reply" button. Has you address changed?
Tom, thats silly!!! Please speak. PLEASE. Don't make me beg.
I've gotten rid of all the teflon I used to have (namely my wok, which seems sort of sacreligious anyway) People today in America have at least 85 chemicals floating around in their bloodstreams that didn't even exist outside the laboratory at the turn of the century. And Jim will not be offended.
Not sure about Iowa or Ill. I heard Ill. has lower taxes(property).
Erin
Wow. Well, that is too sad. I don't know who it is but THEY SHOULD STOP.
I've already deleted one anonymous post. But it was directed at me...

Nance said more than 8 inches.
I don't think that anyone has ever meant to be hurtful. I am sure that ANON didn't realize how abrasive he/she may actually sound.
If anyone needs to get a life it's me.
Seriously.
Tom and Nance come back-Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaase. I sent an email and it came back. Come back, come back, comeback.
You'd think I could at least spell my name right.
That was MonIca
Thanks, Monca. We will come back when Anonymous identifies him/herself and apologizes. Our email address for this communication is: tomandnance@netamumail.com

The kids used to call her Monca. It is kind of cute. I have other pet names for her but it would be nice to have a contest for a pet name for Monica because she is tired of "my cute little gerbil"
THat's nice Joe.
Thanks,
Monica
Your welcome. Monica's pet name for me is a series of clicks in the Ungwatsi language which is used by a few tribes in South Africa. It is endearing, though.
Is dumbass the same in both languages?
That's funny. My nickname for Ryan is Ass-pain. I'm totally serious. I call him that all the time.
The Marine version of sweet talk.
Ass-pain in Ungwatsi means "Lion's poo-poo"
