"He's H-O-T...hot!" :-)

In the caption, under this picture, in the Algona paper it states that Chef Tom Straub is making Shrimp Parmisian. ~ha!

We should have a cooking competition at the Eli Cash Graveyard Games!

is that an OU hat? why oklahoma? or, as i like to call it, Texas-Lite.

Anonymous said...

Liam and Don were on an OU team at the "Y." It's Don's hat. :-)

My Dad bought and sent, all three boys, hats for their baseball teams.

Speaking of OU, Desmond told us (you might know) Bobby Stoops canned about 6 players including his starting quarterback, for accepting money...now OU is under investigation!..It's a BIG deal!

The cook-off idea sounds fun!

everyone collect roadkill on the drive in. best stew wins

Ed X said...

Yeah - what really happed was the OU starting quarterback got paid for work he didn't do. It was like one of those Mafia jobs where you are a "Union Delegate" and get paid tons, but you never show up and do work.

Sneaky bastards.

Boy Tom, it's a good thing you happened by with a pan with some shrimp in it so you could stomp out that fire!

Cooking event at the games? We'd have to pick out something small and cheap (so everyone can have multiple samples before voting) such as cocktail wienies or Fizzies or Spam. We agree on the ingredient and whoever does the coolest thing with it wins. Presentation can overcome taste (in more ways than one) so that, for example, someone could win if they make a log cabin out of Lil Smokies or carve a likeness of Elvis out of a slab of Spam.
Just remove everything
Don't look like the King

I was jokin' about the cooking competition.

I'm examining an abstract of title to a house in Algona right now and just ran across an entry whereby in 1928 the then-owner gave a mortgage to the Farmer's Elevator Company of Hobarton,Iowa, executed by C.H. Schoby, Secretary. I'll bet that was Uncle Chet! Good ole Uncle Chet. Sometime this weekend, whereever each of us may be, each of us should raise a toast to Uncle Chet.

Old Dan Tucker was a fine old man...

Ed X said...

I will drink to Uncle Chet tonight.

Hey - was thinking that one of the events in the straub-a-thon could be best song at the straub-a-pouluza. Every contestent bring a song to enter and those not in the competition rate and rank them.

So - bring some good songs to the Farm.

Time to buy XM Satellite Radio. Down to about $11.80 from upper $30s, will soon be coming installed on Japanese cars, a perfect takover target for Sirius.

I have great memories of Uncle Chet...he would walk around the land (at his acreage) and show us how he was making maple syrup....in his basement he had a full bar for ICE CREAM Shakes...he was nice..I think he lost his son off an air craft carrier in WW2...for you younguns...he was Auntie Bernie's husband...second marriage for both, I think,,,
When I was is grade school...Uncle Chet was the Chair of the Kossuth Co. Rep....at the same time Dad was the Chair of the Kossuth Co. Dems! I was Sooooo cool!

Sweet, I had a comment deleted by the blog administrator! I didn't think it was that offensive, but if so I apologize.

I was wonderin' who Uncle Chet was.

Anonymous said...

I second Tom's motion.

Why was Joe's comment deleted? Who is the blog administrator? CENSORSHIP!!!!!

P. Rose said...

Hey, tell us about the new house? Send some pictures!

Cathy stayed last night and your parents stopped by on their way to a wedding. The house is grand, but it will always be work. We had a huge limb fall the day after we moved in. However, we had a pleasant surprise it that the tree service guy(old guy) will take it down and two other trees and chop and split one of the trees for $800. Either this is cheap because we are not in St. Paul or because it is so open. Stop by, we have lots of room.

tom, the only pic of you that should be permanently displayed would involve a speedo.

Anonymous said...

A couple years ago, at Gull Lake, my Dad was forced to put on a Speedo and we took a pix of him! He had lost a bet. :-<>
Oh...and, we couldn't see the suit in the picture! ~ha, ha :-)

IDEA:
The winner of the Graveyard Games should be able to have a bed in the farm. The looser...parade around in a Speedo!

Sounds like a benefit of winning.

Tom, was that you that was giving Rhett Bomar all that money? I knew it.

At Gull Lake, one year, my sister and I were lookin' around at all the men in their swim-suits. We decided to vote on the, "best body." After a moment or so of surveying the candidates...we
looked at each other and at the same time said, "Chritopher." He is our nephew and was like 12 at the time. Ha!

I'm sure the men don't do that about us...? :-<>

I thought ND was ranked #1 pre-season...I think #3 is a bit less stress!...I wear my pink hat a lot...people always want to read the back.
It looked like a ball carrier for Phila. got hit HARD with only 1 minute left in the game tonight...player were praying on the field...D.NcNabb was looking curiously like he was trying to look concerned for the cameras...I might be disappointed in him...maybe his Mom will slap him and then feed him a bowl of Cambell soup!

Anonymous said...

Campbell soup!
Mike and I saw Brian's band perform at a club in CB on Friday, his band is very good and he's great on the drums...we had a lot of fun, I hope I didn't embarass he and Molly, 'cause I was dancing nancy! He looked great in one of Desmond's t-shirts!

Anonymous said...

Dancing Nancy? Did you mean Dancing Fancy? :-<>

See post under Mel re bedspace.
Re song competition: only if you sing it.
Re cooking competition: great idea (with Joe's stipulation that everyone uses the same main ingredient. I had to pass up the Spam museum on my way to Rochester - if only I'd known it was there I would have made time to visit.)
Re Main meal: I vote for Saturday night because some people might have to leave on Sunday? What does everyone think? Molly and Stevo and I will bring a roaster full of Golabki (stuffed cabbage leaves) for another meal.
Brian and Molly thought Mary's fancy dancing was in the best of taste and reflected the crowd's enthusiasm.

Main meal: We think Saturday sounds great.
