Did you fill up yesterday?

Nation's biggest oil field shut down
Oil company BP has indefinitely shut down the nation's biggest oilfield after finding a pipeline leak, removing about 8 percent of U.S. oil production and stoking fears that already high gas prices will shoot up further.

Ed, what's going on?

Jimmy McCain, youngest son of Senator John McCain, enlisted in the Marine Corps and will report to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for basic training. (His big bro Jack is currently at the Naval Academy in Annapolis)
Semper Fi to that kid.

Pretty good argument for holding off on the drilling in Alaska.
Good on ya, Jimmy McCain!

The conferencewas great. I went out every night to dinner with people from the diocese and it turned into a bit of a contest over who could order the coolest beer but I won with Anchor Steam. So that blew my plan to hibernate all week in my hotel room, but it was OK. I still got a lot of recreational reading done, which will stop once school starts.
Monica's house is beautiful! Gorgeous entry foyer with the curving staircase, and a really nice family room, plus LR, Dining, office, guest room, etc. Plus the property is like a park that sweeps back into a woods - big old oak, maple and hickory trees. I took pix of the house with a disp. camera so when i get digital pix I'll put some up. I also got pix of Peter riding his new bike standing on the seat and doing no hands (with training wheels) and all the boys in the driveway on bikes and Ellen on a teeny tiny scooter.

If the main meal is Saturday night, will Tom and Nancy and their kids be able to be there?

Yeah - BP is being VERY careful up there on this pipeline. When they began drilling on the North Slope there was a lot of protesters (in snowmobiles) and BP had been able to get them to stop (somehow).

And then - about two months ago there was a huge spill in another portion of the pipline. The spill was about 800,000 barrels.

So - because of those two reasons BP is being very careful on that pipeline and is shutting down production until everything is 1000% cool.

We don't know if we will be there by then or not. No worries...don't plan around us.

We hope we can get ther at all...with our Assistant Cook gone and a full-time Cook walkin' out on Friday! :-<> Yikes!

Never fear...we will try our best...and, if we cannot come we will send the tees with Mary and Joe. :-)

Mia was sitting in her high chair and the puppy ran by and took a little flying nip at her toes on the way and she said, "Bad dog feet bite mine."

BERLIN (Aug. 7) - A German woman found a frozen dog when she opened the refrigerator freezer compartment in her new apartment in the southwestern town of Trossingen, police said Saturday.

The previous tenant later told police in the town near Stuttgart that his greyhound pup had died of natural causes several months earlier but he did not have time to give it a proper burial before moving out of the apartment.

Police said the man faces prosecution for violating the "Tierkoerperbeseitigungsgesetz" (animal cadaver removal law).

Now there's a nice word for the shirts.

Actually the words for "the shirts"
is "Die Hemden"

P.S. I know you didn't mean it literally.

Anonymous said...

What does"die hemden"mean?

I can imagine that Nancy and Grace might be tired of deciding about the shirts. But the rest of us should not be. I am sure they are going to be great. What's the secret art-work?

It is the Straub Crest with a picture of some gay looking guy from the 15th century.

It might be Eli Cash-Straub's 3rd Grade Picture...I'm not gonna tell!
