There once was a quarterback named Golson
He had one too many Molsons
A test he did take
We found it was fake
Turns out he was not a smart person.

The rules are very specific!

So, Josh and I are going to be needing a new car soon. A new USED car. We don't want to spend more than 5K or so. (MAYBE up to 8k for the right car) If you hear of a great deal for that price some time in the next few months, let me know. No gas guzzlers and must be automatic.

Yesterday I had a meeting with a food broker and a rep from Tyson.

Back fill....In light of the fact that a recent colonoscopy had found a polyp (non cancerous but there non-the-less) I have been eating a high fiber diet. Helps with colon health, or so I have read.

The meeting was at the brokers office to review an array of prepared foods (smoked pork shoulder, brisket, pizza toppings, deli meats and so on). One of the downfalls of my job is I'm constantly testing new foods. I'm not a spitter like some chef-testers are. I believe if you want to experience a food it needs to make it all the way down your gullet.

Anyway, all this food and this new high fiber diet had me painfully gassy. So, here I am doing the butt clench for an hour and a half as my innards are absolutely roiling. Painful. If I took a half step one would pop with a fairly loud smacking noise. So I had to stand as still as possible.

It wasn't too bad because it was in a commercial kitchen with loud exhaust fans running. This would cover the sound and odor of any slip ups.

But near the end the chef who had prepared the foods was winding it down and shut off the fans. Holy Moly!

Also, about half way through the demo I excused myself to use the rest room. As I sat down there was no release other than gas. I mean a lonnnnnnng loud release that could not have been more comical had it been part of a Monty Python skit, or something.

Nothing about it at the time was comical. Pain, potential embarassment and puzzlement all were mine.

It would not have been that big a deal had it been a couple of guys. You can kind of explain yourself it it's just a bunch of middle aged dudes.

However the broker is a 30-40 something gal who was hired for her looks as well as her sales acumen. My vanity would not allow me to divulge the source of the sour look on my face.

Later that day I Googled "side effects of a high fiber diet" and yessiree high fiber diets can cause painful cramping and gas.

I don't mind letting my youth slip away but does it have to result in this? I ended up in the hospital overnight a couple weeks ago with morphine injections for the pain. They couldn't be sure but suspected a blockage in my small intestine.

"How did he die?" "He couldn't poop?" Kind of takes the shine off a lifetime of achievements.

Look at it this way, you could go out on the toilet like Elvis.

I've done some more looking into this. The U of Minnesota has studied the affect of added fiber to one's diet and found that it can indeed lead to upset stomachs and bowels. They even named the snack bar I eat (Fiber One) as an example of some the foods causing this problem. It can even lead to blockages in some people.

Who would of thought that too much fiber could do this? I may was well stop trying and lead a life of complete gluttony.

I cannot eat a whole fiber one bar. It becomes too embarrasing. There are kinder, gentler sources.
