Caroline says thank you! She had a great birthday/holiday week. I took her to the dentist, doctor, then the library and story time today. Nice and healthy, and hopefully well worn out for a long nap now. I need to do a lot of house work...and sit on the couch with the computer.
Man! A lot of Birthdays all of the sudden. Happy Birthday, All.
Our ancient washing machine finally died so we were forced to get a new one. I really hate spending money on something as mundane as a clothes washer.
We shopped fairly extensively. Our goal was to go as inexpensive as possible. Like I said to Nance, "at some point all you are paying for is gadgetry and marketing".
The best buy we found was a Roper from Lowes. $314 delivered AND they took our old one away. Not bad. We had discovered that Roper is made by Whirlpool.
And, to our great satisfaction we were joking with the delivery / set-up guy about us buying an "off" brand. He said, "It doesn't matter. You take these things apart and they have the same exact parts on the inside as a Whirlpool that costs 300-400 dollars more."
This morning Sam came running to tell me something he was very excited about. "Mom, Finn undid my shoe but instead of punching him I just told him not to do that. Isn't that great?".
Sam and Finn have been in a little summer camp in the mornings this week and I'm getting a little tast of what it's going to be like in the fall when they're both in preschool 3 mornings a week. I can tell you it's going to be awesome but those 3 hours will go fast! We switched Sam to a new preschool this year bc Jude's school is starting a preschool this year and also bc his teacher at the old school suggested I take parenting classes. I guess I should've embarrassed but I was really just shocked and a little mad. At any rate, it will be great to have one drop off and Finn is very excited to go to school with his brothers..
Some of the most idiotic people I have ever met are teachers. Many have really lost a grip in how the real world (non bureaucratic world) works.
They are in this insular world where logic and reason gets evaporated in this bureaucratic and juvenile mindset.
You would be amazed at some of the nonsense we went through with teachers AND administration when our kids were younger. Basically, it came down to the fact that our kids are less like thier classmates. They wanted our kids to be more like their classmates.
I don't mean this of all teachers. Just a great many.
There are just as many idiots everywhere, It's just that teachers have the opportunity to make you sit in a tiny chair and tell you what's wrong with your kid. Or your parenting skills, I guess. I'm with Mary, that teacher needs a little "education!"
Here's a sign of the times....Oscar had trouble believing Molly's doctor is a man, because he's only had woman doctors. As they were leaving the male doctor's office, he cracked up the nurses by telling Molly, "He's a really sensitive guy, isn't he?"
Speaking of teachers, many of you will remember Sister Carla who taught many of you at St. Cecelia. Mom and I were at a parent-teacher conference once talking about one of you--I forget which one--and Sister came up with the comment we used to hear from every teacher at the conferences---that so and so is so smart but he/she just doesn't work hard, followed by the look that said that it was our fault. Sister Carla was an excellent teacher but we had heard that comment so often down through the years that I said something like this: "Sister, I can remember back when I was in high school and some teachers motivated me to do well and others did nothing to make we want to do better. My parents had nothing to do with motivating me except to provide encouragement and a place to do my homework. If he/she is not doing well I don't see why it's our fault. Sister was stunned and I felt much better. Dad

I love being a smart shopper.
