Happy Birthday, Sam...you DO look buff! :-) Say...we could sure use a few prayers to sell our house. Getting tired of paying for two AND a storage unit...not to mention driving back and forth to another town is getting old. Thank you! :-)
Pfizer Inc.(PFE)announced early Tuesday that its board has approved a $5 billion stock buyback program on top of its existing $4 billion authorization, and that it intends to purchase around $5 billion shares in 2011 alone. As of the end of 2010, Pfizer had repurchased approximately 60 million shares. Pfizer also said it plans to raise its once-coveted dividend, which it cut to help fund its 2009 mega-merger with rival Wyeth. "While the dividend level remains a decision of the board and will continue to be evaluated in the context of future business performance, barring significant unforeseen events, we continue to target a dividend payout ratio comparable to the current industry average of approximately 40 percent in about three years," said Pfizer's new chief executive officer, Ian Read, in a statement.
We celebrated Caroline's baptism Saturday after mass, and then celebrated again at our house with soup and sandwiches and ended up with a house full of relatives and friends. It was nice to see some of the kids' friends that we haven't seen in a while. Caroline was bemused during the ceremony, which was conducted by our recently ordained deacon Bob (he's in his 60's). It was only his second baptism and he gave a nice, if a little lengthy, homily and he had made up special personalized booklets of the rite for everyone there with Caroline's name. Nice.
We're iced/snowed in - not a lot of snow but it's over slick ice. Plows and salt trucks have been up and down the street all night but it's still icy. On the 6:00 news last night they showed a school bus slowly sliding sideways down a hilly street and the school districts called a snow day for today soon after. How are you all doing?
It's so cold again...but not tons of new snow at least. But I'd take more snow over the bitter cold. -And yes, I do shovel.
Sam's birthday was nice. Pretty low key. He had a soccer game that morning. I fudged his birthday by 2 weeks to get him on the 3 year old league. I'm not trying to force him into organized sports, but he's been begging to play since he could talk. We had cake and a few presents afterward. That night Scott and I went to a party for all the parents of kindergarteners. It was fun.
Sam does look pretty buff in this picture. We think he's somehow buff and thin. Of course we're pretty objective.
I’m good but our noon masses are too guitar-ee. The musical responses are longer than the readings they are responding to. It's like the musical director/lead singer makes every Sunday a manifestation of his vicarious longing to have started a Christian rock band.
We like to sleep late on weekends so I guess we're stuck.
I'm picking the Packers by a touchdown. I think the Steelers pass defense is average, at best, and the Packers O-line is good enough to give Rodgers (who is,generally, great) time. The Steelers depend on their D-line and blitzes to get to the QB. The Packers receivers are better than the Steelers linebackers and secondary. Rodgers will find them. The Steelers are solid, up and down, and I think should be favored, but if Rodgers is on, the Pack wins, particularly if they get rolling early.
By the way - the starting right tackle on the Packers is a 21 year old rookie from Iowa. Would have been a senior this last year but opted for the draft.
I'm mostly concerned with what kind of game food we're going to have. It's sort of the last pig-out besides maybe Mardi Gras in an austere season of exercise and weight-loss competitions. If I have a perfect hamburger and some wings, will I be able to fit in some super nachos or pizza? Chocolate cake, anyone? Rolling Rock or Lienenkugel amber? Who's playing, anyway?

Oh and I would like to say that I voted for the Steelers b/c I think they will win but I want Green Bay to win.
Me too Emily!
Lots-o-Steeler fans in our neck of the woods.

Thoughts?
Pretty much my thoughts. If the Steelers can get to Rodgers they win. I don't think they will.
Rodgers reminds me of Kurt Warner in his prime. Quick release passes that are right on the mark.
