There was a wedding about to start in that house across the lake when that picture was taken. You can see the people in front of the house. It was in a mounainous area in West Cork in Googan Barra (?) which I think is a national park. Dad
The trip home over the weekend allowed those present to celebrate a bit early with Mom on Saturday night and sing to Gillian on Sunday afternoon. Fun times in Whittemore.
Happy birthday to all of the lovely ladies (and Scott) who I missed over the past few weeks.
June 3 is the last day to get the discounted wedding hotel rates (either will be lovely and we'll make sure you get to/from safely!) so if you plan on staying in the St. Charles/Geneva area, just wanted to let you know!
Also, we're trying to get the count of who's coming and I wanted to be clear (because I don't think I did a good job of it when I addressed our invitations) that kids are very much invited. If you RSVP on our site, you can put their names in under the additional guest field. If it's confusing, just e-mail Joe or me and we'll put it in: http://www.projectwedding.com/ourwedding/joeandbrianne/
Happy Birthday Gillian! It was great to see you this past weekend, hope you had fun playing with cousins for 3 days!
Dad treated us all to Cinco De Mayo for Mom's 80th birthday last night! The staff put a sombrero on Mom and sang Happy Birthday and gave her free fried ice cream. It was yummy.
We went to a wedding last Sunday and Monday north of Chicago, in Wisconsin in Lake Geneva...we saw Phelan and Caitlin (thanks to Ed for letting them use his car to get there from Chicago). Mike and I drove back through Madison and spent time on State Street. It's still GREAT, but I do think they're letting too many chain restaurants in...then we headed west and stopped in McGregor, Iowa. Very cool little town on the Mississippi. Nice getaway with only one overnight!
Joe and Brianne and Ellen and Andy are here in town for a friend's wedding. Mia's getting her hair cut short right now. The Richardsons came over for a casual family feast last night (Creole shrimp and big Caesar salads) Brian and his brother are on a 150-mile round bicycle trip today. The house, several feet up in the air and rolled out in front of its old basement, sits where it is, because of weather and other considerations. I am being held hostage by an excavation company.
Cathy that's a pain in the butt about the house...
We saw Take Him to the Greek today. It was pretty funny. Better than I expected. We also ate at this burger joint that was pretty good in Deerfield Beach. The owner's other business is a butcher shop and so the burger meat is ground fresh daily. I got the basic burger (4.65) and Josh got a Kobe beef burger with gruyere and mushrooms (10.95)- fries extra. It was pretty darn good. Just a little shack - no tap beer but plenty of options in the bottle.
I also went running at 10:30 a.m. Heat index was already 102. It didn't seem so awful which must mean I'm a Floridian.
I'm in Houston. But for the humidity and the accents and all the pick up trucks it seems like the Los Angelas of the south. Feels like there is a lot of money here.
Drove to the Gulf. Longer drive than I thought. The water was as warm as a winter time bath.
RE: Natalie Hollowy. I always thought that perhaps her mom was just a semi hysterical mom trying to find answers and maybe barking up the wrong tree. It appears not.
RE: Obama. Still sucks. Looking more and more like Carter. Only crooked.
RE: My job. Going well. Big adjustment. Difficult at first simply because of the systems used that are unfamiliar to me. But getting easier because my office has 3 other guys who are fantastic at helping me out. Work about 50 hours a week. But I still thank God I'm out of the nights and weekends.
Nance and kids will be joining me next weekend. We found a house to rent. A 3 bedroom split. I'll never live in a split again. No matter where you go there are stairs involved. It is small but has a nice in ground pool that I should have ready to go when they get here. It was a lucky find. Short term lease we can get out of at any time with a 30 day notice. Less money and shorter term than any 2 bedroom apartments I looked at. Couldn't imagine all 5 of us plus a beagle in an apartment.
We are about 45 minutes from Sandusky / Crowne Point. Roller Coaster capital of the world. Everyone is welcome anytime. Joe, I know you guys go roller coastering every year. If you do, let us know.
netamumail is still current for Nance. At least until the end of the week.
I have 2 addresses:
General - tnstraub1@earthlink.net Work - straub.thomas@tatravelcenters.com
The work one I need to use with discrection. I am on facebook but hardly go there.
DANG! Two Hawkeye football players were arrested last night in a bar fight. At least it was a bar fight and not an arrest for drugs or theft. Regardless, these guys were projected to get a lot of playing time if not start.
One was Hampton who looked like Roger Craig in relief work at running back 2 years ago. Broke his ankle and was redshirted last year.
Another was a guy named Bernstine. A fairly well touted recruit a couple of years ago but due to injuries hadnn't played much. Was going to contend to start at corner.

I think Randy's family lived in McGregor for awhile... they talk of it as being extremely tiny and a bit rural.

that must have been before the riverboat casino went in.
Happy birthdays Granny and Gillian!
This weekend I will be a judge at the Beard Team USA National Beard and Moustache Championships.

Don't ask - it's a Dockers thing. Shold be fun though. I've always wanted to go to Bend.
You will see some awesome hirsutedness.
That's so funny, Des. Maybe you'll get some ideas for your own facial growth.

Tom,
I take it you no longer have the netamumail email address. Any updates there? Nance, too?
