Happy b-day to Mia!! How did she celebrate?

Jude's big day is tomorrow. We're making a Big Top Cupcake right now. He wants blueberry muffins for breakfast and lentil soup for dinner. I picked up the cupcakes we orderd from Target to take to school. (becasue you can't do homemade anything) Jude picked out Star Wars decorated cupcakes and I went a long with it. The school doesn't allow any super hero t-shirts or super hero play so I hope they don't get mad about the Star Wars cupcakes. Each cupcake has a ring with a character on it so maybe some of the parents will get mad when their kid comes home and asks who Anakin Skywalker is. We'll see.

Aren't those rules just insane! I hope he has fun!

I would be interested to know how the school would react if you had little figurines of Buhda or Mohammed. And then someone else did the same using the Virgin Mary.

I'm betting they would be willing to embrace diversity but then squawk about keepihng religion out of the schools.

Anyway, Happy Birthday kids. Enjoy your childhood. I remember being a 4-5 year old wandering around the empty lot behind our house on Durant street by myself. I noticed a song bird on a wire and admired it's tune. I thought at that moment how great it is to be a kid and wishing I never had to grow up and deal with what grown ups had to.

I know those rules are so stupid. The kids find ways to play variations of the same bad guy/good guys theme. Deep sea diver/sharks. Arctic explorer/polar bears.

Tom, Jude does not want to grow up either. He enjoys some of the priveleges that being an older kid brings, but he says he doesn't want to get a job. He just wants to be what he calls a "regular guy." He doesn't even like to talk about when he's a grown up. He says it makes his stomach hurt.

Mia is celebrating her birthday by throwing up. Stevo is watching her at home this morning. I hope she's better by Saturday, the day of her birthday party. Actually, I think yesterday was OK for her.

Ash Wednesday 6:00 mass was followed by Misa de Miercoles de Ceniza at 7:15. Bad mistake. We had a small parking lot accident and big parking lot chaos, exacerbated by that creative Hispanic parking. Live and learn!

You should change. We didn't give up your posting. I gave up fast food. It's going to be very hard for me. I heard two girls ahead of me in thd checkout at Target last night. They were maybe 8 and 10. They were giving up TV. That would be really hard.

Mia's party is Saturday, it's a Carnival with hot dogs, popcorn and games to win prizes. We made brownies with sprinkles to take to school, they don't have those pesky rules yet. Mia wanted chicken with gravy and mac and cheese for dinner and hot fudge sundeas for dessert. She threw up this morning but is looking better this afternoon. Her teacher gave her a birthday present, don't you think that is weird?

Happy Birthday 5 year olds! I wish I got to be your teacher.

The 5 year olds in my classroom just started praying everyday before lunch this week. It's so cute, and of course they thought of it by themselves. They each say their own version of the "God is Great" prayer.

I finally got a chance to watch the Sam and Ester video clips this weekend. It's so heartbreaking to hear those stories about young, young kids having to look after their younger siblings.

I almost had a meltdown after watching those, then watched Gran Torino and pretty much did meltdown. It was a good movie, but something about seemed a little silly. Although it made me cry and cry. Then I cried again later just thinking about "Life is Beautiful" while we were ordering some DVDs. So remind me not to watch another sad movie for the next five months.

I was reading about this fire in Minneapolis that destroyed a few businesses I've been to, and this was the last line:

Witnesses said employees of the businesses got out of the building safely, and chefs left the building carrying their knives.

Can someone tell me the difference between a lutz, a toe loop and a sowkow?

So the US Hockey team is taking on Canada on Sunday night. Both teams are loaded with NHL players (Patrick Kane from Chicago is on the US team). This is a non-elimination round, but should be a really good game and the crowd will be into it. You should watch.

That's salchow not sow-kow.

c said...

Well, I figured something similar. But what is it?

Anonymous said...

I think it has something to do with spinning and sequins and a seething sexuality.

And the lutz?

Anonymous said...

The lutz is the fake kiss choreographed into the dance sequence in pairs skating.
