Happy Birthday Sean! What are you doing today? Driving? Ed, I had to re-post the thumb so nobody would miss it. How's it feeling? any joint movement yet?
Happy Birthday Sean! Thank goodness your Birthday is here as I thought we'd be looking at Uncle Ed's oh-so-gross thumb for a while...euwwww!
Poor Ed...I don't know what's grosser your real thumb or the cartoon toes in that fungus commercial...ha! Seriously though...looks awful, I hope it's feeling better!
This swine flu problem will kill the pork industry in the mideast, where the Muslims eschew pork and the Christian minority chews pork. The Egyptian government is ordering all hogs in the country killed. "...farmers will be allowed to sell the pork meat so there will be no need for compensation." Sure, and prices won't reflect that the country's entire pork inventory is slaughtered and on sale at the same time. This seems like genocide by proxy.
We took Sean out for his dinner last night. He chose Lonestar Steakhouse. It was yummy. Plus on Tuesdays kids eat free. So Tom and Peter were free. We will do the Grecian dinner though. We've done it before and it's good. Although the Jewish center is doing a dinner that night too. What to get him? I'm stumped. Got him a couple of books but that's all. All he wants is the Infinity at European Imports. Monica
i've got the swine. just kidding, but i've convinced like 4 gullible people and they freaked out. who knows, i might! i have all the symptoms. perfect timing!
...and that thumb made me lose my morning appetite
I had a closing this a.m. with Sean Noonan and my co-worker will NOT call him Sean, he says "Seen"... "Good Morning Seen...Thanks, Seen...Have a good day Seen" Sean says he gets that alot here! I told Seen it was your birthday Sean.
Just looked it up...says that in the case of the Spanish flu at the turn of the 20th century (which later became the swine flu)... initial cases were a mild sweep of the flu and it later mutated and became deadly for a second sweep of flu.
Happy Birthday Sean! Mmm. I'd like to go to Lonestar too. I am craving steak. If I had to choose btwn greek and israeli food I would def go for the greek. The schwarma (sp?) is very similar to a gyro but much fattier. Iv'e tried them a couple times, and the flavor is good but the fat grosses me out. Kind of like how I love the flavor of chx wings but all the bones and the gnawing - yuck. Ditto for ribs.
I was drinking a glass of water today that had set out on the counter for quite a while and it occured to me that the kitty probably drank out of it. Then I wondered if I could get feline flu from sharing a drinking glass with the cat.
Don't laugh. The last great pandemic in 1919 killed 50,000,000 people world wide. If you look at the mortality rates so far with this one it could be big if it spreads.
I heard a report that in Mexico City they have restricted restaurants to serving take out only. That would suck.
i know! and I'm not just looking for excuses to whine either. I always thought I had such a great immune system...
Ellen posted a bunch of pics of their new house on facebook.. it looks so cute and cozy.
I'm sitting at school and I just turned my head and some guy was literally 2 feet away from me with a really long camera taking my picture. I pretty much screamed cause I was so caught off guard. Now he's having me sign a consent for some CU mag. These new glasses REALLY must make me look studious.
Omaha is extra swine-flu-concerned because the annual Berkshire Hathaway conference is next week- they're expecting thousands of people from all over.
..he's still snapping pictures, this is getting awkward! dealing with the paparazzi is so hard.
The x-rays looked good. The tiny bone fragments in the tip of my thumb are all coming together nicely.
I was wrong. The hospital that had the workers with possible swine flu was the University of Chicago Hospital not the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital that I went to. They had a TON of those things to squirt on your hands and rub them together though.
Happy May Day! Did anybody make their kids cups with candy to bring to school? Chicago cancelled cinco de mayo cause of the flu.
Happy May Day and Law Day and I also think this is some kind of socialist day, isn't it?
Our May Day baskets are made and ready to be delivered by Randy and the girls after school. Lots of popcorn and thank goodness for lots of left over Easter candy.
Glad you thumb is knitting so well, Ed. I think I gotta get some sanitizing wipes for the house...
Happy Birthday, Sean. How does that Infinity drive?
I hate regular season NBA basketball. Playoffs are a totally different game. Last night's triple overtime game Bulls vs. Celtics was one of the best sports events I've ever seen. Out of the 6 games played so far in the best of 7 series 4 have gone into overtime. The final series game is Sat. night.
Hinrich (from Sioux City) is a better defender than a scorer.
Anybody watch Oprah on Friday? They were talking about gay marriage in Iowa, and they showed the front page of the Register I designed for the day after it was legal to marry. The photo on the front page was taken in Council Bluffs. Now I can die happy.
Ellen and Andy are almost done painting their house, and it looks great. I've been helping off and on this week, and my parents are back up here today helping finish up. Andy's dad has been up on the roof since last Saturday replacing rotted wood siding. I think they just throw food up to him every once in a while. He's a real trooper. Ellen said they're going to get the fire pit out tonight and relax a little. I hope they don't put it too close to the house.
That's cool Joe. I hope you demanded on air credit. Ellen and Andy's house is really cute. She has photos online.
TOm is right about the celtics bulls games. I don't watch pro basketball but in lieu of anything at all on t.v., happened upon two of these games, both of which went into double overtime which meant I turned it off after one overtime (hour later here). I am looking forward to tonight's match. I think at least two of the ties have been with 3 pointers at the buzzer.

Happy Birthday Sean!
Good luck on your driving test!

Have a great birthday Sean! Now you can dive Thomas everywhere he needs to go.
Molly - I took the repost of the thumb off. No need to have it on twice.
Happy Birthday, Sean! Have your parents treat you to a Grecian dinner at St. John the Baptist this Sunday!

Ed, your thumb is gruesome. Do you keep it wrapped at work? When sill the nail grow back?
happy bday sean! where will you drive to first?

Enjoy all this dining!
Where do you wish to drive to all by yourself?
Tell me more about this Grecian dinner thing.
lisa
Oh, Ed, your nail!
And to think that's the improved look for that digit.
Very interesting.
By the way, unlike Caitlin, almost nothing can make me loose my appetite.
I heard that they are thinking of changing the name of the swine flu so that it's not confused with pork.
lisa
Swine flu

You can buy round trip tickets to mexico city right now for $290.
"Fly SWINE AIR where you can be a little bit piggy"
You could go but nothing would be open.

And you would come home with weird tan lines on your face from wearing that little mask.

2 suspected cases of swine flu in iowa
Tom
Ed -
Don't let anyone sneeze on that thumb. You'll be a swine flu victim for sure.
lisa
I think the swine flu started in ed's thumb.
p
Aaaaaaaaagh! Two of the suspected cases of swine flu are workers at the hospital I have to go to today to get my x-rays!!!!!!!!!!
Ooooooooh Nooooooooo!!!!!!
Better wear a mask and gloves. Just cut off the thumb part of the glove.

I wonder why Fox News always has the hottest daytime female anchors. Do none of these women ever apply at the other networks?
Tom
Caitlin youve been sick an awful lot.

My famous daughter...
she's the new Heidi Montag!
Hey Ed, how was the doctor appointment? Do you still have your thumb? Do you have the flu?
The x-rays looked good. The tiny bone fragments in the tip of my thumb are all coming together nicely.

Where did Sean drive to once he got his license?
Lisa
Soccer and Dicks to redeem the gift card he got.

Tom, those Fox girls are only hot until they start talking. Then they're scary.
Happy belated Birthday, Sean! Congrats on your license to drive.
This is an interesting article about why some foods are hard to resist:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/26/AR2009042602711.html
Here's the basic point of the story: Foods high in fat, salt and sugar alter the brain's chemistry in ways that compel people to overeat.
Yes they do.
"It was once said that a black man would be president "when pigs fly". Indeed 100 days into Obama's presidency: Swine FLU"
