Movies

So, Mary and Mike, how was The Lady in the Water? Does anyone else feel like there aren't any very good movies out right now? I mean, there are movies I'd rent, but not many that I feel are worth the $8. (or more some places). We have, You, Me, and Dupree. Nacho Libre, which actually I'd probably enjoy. I'd like to see The Devil Wears Prada, but I'm not deluding myself that it's any great shakes. Josh and I saw Strangers with Candy a couple of weeks ago. Don't go. There's the new Woodie Allen movie. Read mixed reviews on that one. Prairie Home Companion - it's been smothering all other publicity up here in Wobegon land and I just can't bring myself to see it. Any suggestions? We are in the middle of a rental called Cache, which is pretty good. It's subtitled - a French thriller - but you forget you are reading when you watch it. Plus it's got Juliette Binoche, and I've noticed some men seem to fancy her.

I hope you've all seen Donnie Darko. If not, go rent it immediately. We also rented this movie called Thumbsucker which I thought was great. Not sure others would think so.
Today we will go to a movie to escape the heat. And possibly to Ikea since we've never been and maybe out to eat. What a day, huh?! Tomorrow we will see Cathy in Rochester. I'll send her all your love and good wishes . I'll let her know how much the blog misses her.

LADY IN THE WATER is great! It's worth the money...the water is a dumpy apartment building pool. Paul Giamotti is the "super" of the apt. complex...is a thumbs up! It's sort of a Grimm's fairy tale story...while we were waiting we popped into other movies...saw 1/2 hour of MIAMI VICE (GOOD action movie)...saw 20 minutes of DUPREE (looks clever, maybe wait for the rental)..saw the ending of PIRATES...we will go back to see the rest J.DEPP is just soooHOT!

Pirates is good. I saw Thumbsucker, and man I really did not like that movie at all.

An Inconvenient Truth. It's enlightening. And a little scary. But it wore off as I drove home in my SUV with the windows down and AC on.

And Pirates is good. However, I don't like how movie two in a trilogy is just exposition for the third movie.

But I did see my friend's name in the credits. Stacie Livingson. She spent nine months in the Caribbean working as a Production Assitant. She had Orlando Bloom call her 10 year old neice during her birthday party.

why is Cathy in Rochester?

Anonymous said...

Desmond...could Stacie arrange to have J.Depp call me, my B'day is Aug 14...if not, then Orlando will suffice.

Yes, I am mildly pissed at Cathy, she posts that she will be in Rochester for a week, but not to worry, everything should be fine! Well, I called around and Molly told me it's just a work trip!

What about the new clerks movie?

Anonymous said...

I'm in charge of Mom and Dad's new chandelier, I went over to check on it this a.m. as they were wrapping it up...it's so beautiful...we have 3 closings in the next 72 hours and then we're bringing up the chandelier..so can anyone else do the t-shirt count? Plus, I'm focusing on my last child at home after 33 years...only 2 weeks left! We hope to post a photo of the chandelier...it's beautiful crystal from the early 20's with 12 arms! They picked a good one!

Anonymous said...

ed,
the new clerks movie is worth seeing.

Anonymous said...

We want to see Clerks also. Is Rosario Dawson in it, or someone who looks like her? I liked pirates but I'm with Des, it's all a setup for Pirates #3.

I'll be the go-to gal for the t-shirts. When do you need it, Nance?
Every adult Straub is responsible for their own kids, and following my mom's precedent, the next Straub sibling after himself/herself. (The immediate younger sib)That means call them or whatever to tell them to order. Send orders to me at oloves5@yahoo.com and I'll put a list together and email it to Nance. It sounds like heather gray for the t-shirt color.

So far, going by the blog, I have sizes for Joe and Mary (I guessed Men's XXL and Women's L), Cathy + kids, Don, Frank, Monica, and Emily.
Heather gray shirt with navy blue writing.
Back: Tour de Catur 2006
+ List of hometowns
Front: Vote for one of the following...

Anonymous said...

Vote for one for the front of the t-shirt:
1. I Crossed the Line at the Eli Cash Graveyard Games
2. The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: I Buried the Best
3. The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: ALMOST everybody comes out on top
4. The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: Don't Tread On Me

I need orders by 8:00 pm tonight so I can send Nance the info by Monday morning (I leave for work by 7:30 A.M.) Nance, do we need a deposit? Or can we pay you when we get the shirts on labor day weekend?
One more thing: should we order extras for those who don't get their orders in on time? Like 5 men's and 5 women's shirts?

Anonymous said...

You can also put your orders on the blog and I'll add them to the list. You can email me at oloves5@yahoo.com or you can call me at 309-347-7700 and leave a message if I don't answer.

In the absence of information I will make an executive decision regarding the t-shirts.

I sent a guess of everyone's sizes to Nance. THanks for organizing Grace. I like 2006 Tour de Catur on the back above the towns -
and then I Crossed the Line at the ELi Cash Graveyard Games. That's my vote. In heather gray.

Thank you Grace for steppin' up! Pat too...as she emailed me with names and sizes this morning. :-)

Grace if you email me YOUR list I will cross reference to ensure that we have not left anyone out. Good?

Cathy will be here within the hour to pick up some of Donny's things and she is going to give them to Pat to bring to Dee's. Thank you. :-) A BIG help. :-)

Joe3 will be by in an hour or so to get Pancake.

This being said...I will confer with them and they can read the Blog and make a decision about the final product. Grace has awesome ideas and I will ask them to review.

My tee sizing from my Dad was for Men's sizes S-4X and Kids. I'm not sure about the, "Women's," thing. I will speak with my Dad later today. Okay? I'll do my best.

Anonymous said...

One more thing to remember:

The Screener needs a fax of EXACTLY what we want. So...unless, someone faxes me the exact design, font, graphic...Tom and I will have to, "get creative." Is that okay?

If we do it...no complaints...promise? :-)

Anonymous said...

Regarding Payment:

My Dad said he will pay for the tees and I can pay him back once I collect from all of you. He's a nice Dad. :-)

Anonymous said...

I vote for number 2 or 3.

by the way, last night Jude climbed out of his crib. we were lying in bed trying to ignore his cries when we heard the great thud followed by an eerie silence. I couldn't believe it. the kid can't even walk, but he can climb out of his bed!

Anonymous said...

Actually...Tom and I do not have the talent nor time to, "create," the Tee. Grace? Desmond? Someone?

Grace~I will need the orders emailed to me by 8am on Monday and I will need the EXACT tee design (front & back) faxed to Sarah's by the same time.

Sarah's Fax# 515-295-9061.

I vote for:
The Eli Cash Cemetary Games: I buried the best.

I like the grey tee idea. :-)

Anonymous said...

Screen color? Navy? Red? Black????
-Different or the same on the front and back?

Anonymous said...

Em, now that he knows he can get out he will try to every night, so get a toddler bed. It uses a crib mattress but is closer to the ground - or does his crib convert? Will you guys be living in Seal Beach or another town? (For the t-shirt)How is it?

Anonymous said...

Nance, I sent you an email about the shirts at sistersarahs@earthlink, is that the right address?

Anonymous said...

No...please, send it to: tomandnance@netamumail.com

Anonymous said...

Jude takes after me. Maybe you should tie him in.

Nance, it'll be like $10 a shirt or so I guess?

So far the vote count is:
(2) I Crossed the Line at the Eli Cash Graveyard Games
(2) The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: I Buried the Best
(1) The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: ALMOST everybody comes out on top
(0) The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: Don't Tread On Me

Anonymous said...

How 'bout:

The Eli Cash Cemetary Games: Dead last.

Anonymous said...

I would like to think that the tees would NOT exceed $10 per. This includes tax and shipping. Of course, we will not know until they're ordered and my Dad gives me the total. I will then divide it out per tee and let you know.

I will need all the cashola when we gather in Dectaur. Thanks. :-)

Okay one and all: If we do not hear from you...the shirt will read...

FRONT:
The Eli Cash Graveyard Games: Dead Last.

BACK:
Tour de Catur 2006
(towns listed)

Any objections? Any better ideas? You have until 6pm tonight (Sunday) to speak up!

It is my understanding that the tees will be GRAY with NAVY screening. Any objections? Any ideas?

Unless, someone faxes us an EXACT idea for the layout and such...we will put something simple together. :-) IF you are intending to design the tee...YOU MUST email us or call us **at home** by 6pm tonight. If we do not hear from anyone...we will work on it tonight. ;-)

Let the games begin!

Anyone know what town Monica moved to?

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry for monopolizing the Blog today...but, if I am going to order manana...I gotta.

Question: ARTWORK?
Do we want a pix on the front? A tombstone as suggested by Pat...I think it was her. Any ideas?

If so...please, send me a clip art type pix to our home email and we can work it into the final design. I need to fax it to the screener tomorrow! :-<>

THANKS! :-)~Nance.

Anonymous said...

Monica moved to Robins, IA. I like Desy's "Die Strauben Spielen." We could add underneath, "The World Cup - It Ain't"
Otherwise I vote for Eli Cash Graveyard Games: You'll wish you were dead.

Anonymous said...

What does, "Die Strauben Spielen," mean? Or, suppose to mean?

Anonymous said...

The Straub Games.

Anonymous said...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, cool!

Anonymous said...

Or Die Straub Spiele. Schnell Laufen! Stark springen! Und Viel Bier trinken! Translated by Google from The Straub Games. Run Fast! Jump high! and drink much beer!

Anonymous said...

Joe K's suggestion with a celtic cross would be OK. But I guess I really like what Nancy has in her 3:13 pm blog. She keeps inquiring about a logo. How about the celtic cross. You see them in lots of cemetaries.

Anonymous said...

Did Mary Ellen really mean what she wrote---that after 33 years she is finally focussing on her last child at home?

Ed X said...

Die Straub Spiele. Schnell Laufen! Stark springen! Und Viel Bier trinken!

Has my vote.

I like the celtic cross too.

I am looking through a shirt catalogue.

Some choices to consider:

**plain gray tee for man, woman (I CAN get woman's sizes) and/or youth.

**Baseball style tees:
~men's has a color around the neck and the same on a three quarter sleeve.
~women's has a color around the neck and the same, in a band, around the short sleeve.
~~~IF, we go with the Baseball styles...gray shirt bodies have either black or navy as the accent. There's also a bunch of white bodies with different color accents.
Whatayahthink? Grace? Anyone?
To make this easy and avoid the expense of, "artwork," from the screener...we should go with a simple *block* font. Okay?
Anonymous said...
I like the idea of the Celtic Cross. However, I am unsure how I would place it with the other writings on the front? Hmm. I'm a lot of things...tee shirt designer...I am not! :-<> :-) Ideas?
Anonymous said...
Before we go ahead and make a decision and move forward...I feel like one (or more) of the original 14 should, "okay," this. Tom not included.
Come on peeps...give me your blessing...or, not. Thanks!
Anonymous said...
I think that I've made an executive decision as I gotta getter done. :-)
I have selected artwork for the tee and I'm going to leave it a surprise! :-<>
I will check, with Tom, when he gets honme to see if he thinks you will all like. :-)
One question remains...regular tee or baseball style?
Anonymous said...
Here is a list of the towns that will be included on the back. Grace compiled this from a 2004 phone list. PLEASE, review and tell me if it's correct. Thanks. :-)
Anonymous said...
Great job Nance, Grace, and Pat!
Anonymous said...
Would someone with a moment and a current phone list...please, double check the cities we listed? Thanks! :-)
My Dad suggested that I mail, via the US Postal Service, our design and artwork to ensure clarity. I will be mailing it today at 11am.
Any changes, to the list of cities, need to be in by then.
Youth sizing comes in XS-Xl.
Anonymous said...
Funny. No we do not carry extra-medium. :-)
I, just, called Mary Ellan and she said that she reviewed the city list and it looked a-ok. Thanks, Mary! :-)
I still need to hear from Jim, Lisa and Emily about Jude.
I would not have put this together without your interest. :-) Hopefully, the tees will turn out bee-u-TEE-ful and I'm sure we will all look fabulous! :-<>
I'll stand up next time. Yesterday was crazy!
I still like Mel Gibson...Emily what exactly do the LA papers say that he said...I think he was drinking at a dinner party and they were talking bout the 20 babies and 40 adults that Israel had just blown to bits...and so when he was driving home he was still thinking about that and then said something about the jewish people! That's a story I'm stickin with!
