We saw fireworks tonight. We sat directly across the river from where they were setting them off. It was super cool because they were reflecting in the river and it was loud, loud, loud. It was way too crowded though.
Had to be better than passing a kidney stone. Mary was that you?
Saw 4 sets of fireworks this weekend (if you count driving by Rosenblatt during their show.) I'm oohed out. How was the weekend in Algona/Burt/West Bend - was business good at Sarah's? and did anybody see any reenactments such as the founding of Burt? Did somebody say, "Here's a nice flat spot..."
The fireworks at the Kossuth County Fair Grounds were phenomenal. I have never seen such a spectacular display in all of my life. Usually, I can take 'em or leave 'em...but, I go 'cuz it's the thing to do. Furthermore, although I am a person that loves my country...soldiers and the freedom they provide...I don't, necessarily, consider those things while watching a firework show. Last night was different..I unexpectedly found myself embracing my patriotic side and considering the soldiers who fight for our freedom every day. It was powerful. Truly an amazing night...for me. :-)
Happy 4th to all of you and go red, white and blue! :-) :-<> :-)
Did anybody else know that the task force charged with finding Osama bin Laden was disbanded more than a year ago? Thank God we have illegal immigrants and Hillary Clinton to focus all our free-floating anger on.
Did Alexander Tyler mean the slave-owning, no-women-voting Athenian Republic democracy? Someone should tell Professor Olson that the abundance stage somehow bypassed a large percentage of the citizenry and is now being concentrated more and more in the hands of fewer and fewer. Wait until small colleges and universities start closing for lack of middle-class students and see how he feels about government dependence.
This is on Professor Olson's Hamline website: DISCLAIMER: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scotish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I've been trying to kill it for 3 years. For details see: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp.
I keeptrying to post a birthday poem for Ryan and Peter but it won't let me. Here it is:
Ryan and Peter's birthday wishes Might bring to mind world-record fishes Or riding two-wheelers Without needing healers But neither one has to do dishes.
First...You responded to my comments about JoJo and his plane by saying, "bored to boredom." Then, you say say that my comment about Don's phone number was a, "sleeper." Lastly, you wonder if, "I get out much," because I shared how awesome the Algona fireworks were.
Either you are trying to be funny but, lack comedic ability...and, you mean no harm. Or, you are enjoying exercising your passive/aggressive tendencies, on our family blog, by assuming an Anonymous role. Which is it?
Either way I find it offensive. I would appreciate it if you would stop.
Nance, I still get goosebumps whenever I hear the national anthem at a public event. Fireworks always remind me of the "rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air" stanza, and I always think about the Revolutionary war. Soldiers aren't the only citizens who make this country so great - people who take an interest in their community and try to make a positive contribution to our society (or food pantry) also make sacrifices in order to uphold the doctrines of life, liberty, and justice. So, to all the Straub bloggers, thanks for exercising your rights and voicing your opinions, voting, raising good kids, supporting yourselves and your families, and being interested in something other than yourselves. You make America great.
But I like funny names, or names that go with the postings. I even don't mind Anonymous if they're not taking cheap shots - it adds an air of mystery. Nance, I would hate it if you didn't post any more. Please reconsider.
We saw the new Superman movie last night. Fun to look at, weak plot with holes you could drive a truck through, all of a sudden Superman and Lois look too young. I mean, both characters need a certain authority or weight, you know? Or is it (gasp!) MY age? I want to see the Prairie Home Companion movie but you have to be in the mood and maybe well-rested to watch an Altman flick.

Mexico is out of it. The teams now left are Portugal, France, Germany and Italy.
Portugal and France will play and the winner will play the winner of the Germany - Italy match.
Both England and Brazil (two favorites) were knocked out this weekend.
Jeez - don't you watch?
Ohhhh. good one.
Ed, haven't you had kidney stones?
I have not had Kidney stones. I had a pain that went away they they thought might be Kidney Stones.
The only reason I know so much about the world cup is that I have Germany in the pool.
That's good, but aren't we talking about the presidential election here?
Oh right. The Pesidential Election!
I have $45 on Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
Go Obrador!
is El Guapo running?

Monica
How does one eat popcorn with no teeth?
I went to the Naperville Ribfest yesterday. Ate Ribs from five different booths and saw the Doobie Brothers.
The Doobies are just allright with me.
Did you bike there on your new supercool bike?
No - rode in a Honda Civic.
Pat,
What did they say about your knee?

What does anybody from Hamline know about anything?
so when i tell those street bum panhandlers 'Get a job' i'm doing it for the good of the country.
The Bush administration has effectivly doled out the money from the treasury in the form of lower taxes.

Ooooh, that Professor Olson makes me mad.
I'm for Italy in the Mexican election because they have the best food and they use their hands when they talk even though it's against the rules.

plain and tall...
do you get out much???
Anonymous~
What's your problem?
I think whoever keeps ripping on plain and tall better step up and say who they are. Lame. That's what you are.

It's a universal law. Have happy birthdays, guys!

Thank you, Nance.
Anonymous, I think it means "any mouse" could be coming from non-straubers, just ignore the mouse!
I would like to think that we are all too smart to lack a sense of humor and too thoughtful to be so rude. Must be an interloper. (?) Hmm.
Ed and Pat...can we 86 anonymous postings? of course that would, also, have to include handles that are not legitimate names.
Until that day arrives...I will bid adieu.
Adieu, Nance. :-)
