Good morning! See if you can get the Fort Dodge Messenger on your computer. It has a front page story about the Algona St. Patrick Day parade. Mary Ellan is quoted and Mike Lavelle's hat drew a comment. Dad
Thanks everyone! Birthday was great: went out with Ed, Des and Jen the Saturday prior, and on my actual birthday we just stayed home and had cheesecake.
It saved my St. Pat's Day because Randy left soon after then the girls were invited to a neighbor's house to eat pizza and watch teh life of pi. No one to make colcannon, sausages and onion gravy for... no irish coffee... i watched quiet man by myself.
Last night I made toasted specials and randy had a guinness.
Grilled cheese: I get baby swiss or (even better)havarti. thin sliced black forest ham. thin sliced red onion. thin sliced tomato. make a nice, buttery grilled cheese sandwich out of it. Yum! You'll be full afterwards.
Today the Dean of Staff and Students at CPA came up and told me he was retiring and wanted to let me know in case I wanted to throw my hat in the ring for his job.
Why does Tamiflu cost $62? That's a lot to spend on something that may not work. We have decent insurance so I'm really surprised and a little annoyed.
Drugs / Healthcare....Just wait till Obama Care goes full swing.
A 62 page application process.
Last night on Rachel Maddow (who I used to kind of respect until she grossly and clearly intentionally) misrepresented John McCain in his stance on gun control) had a group of veterans on who had started an organization to bring to light the long delays they are esperiencing in getting care from the VA.
In many cases it will take 2 months to be seen and then at the last minute the appointment will be cancelled by the VA. And then they will have to wait again - the same amount of time.
As I was watching this I could only project what we are all in store for.
LIsa, a large part of the job would be dealing with disciplinary issues in the k-6 grades. I don't really want an administration job but i'm considering for the following reasons: it's a job in a tight market, it's in a school i love working for, it puts me in a position to know of any teacher openings that might come up the following year. Also, an administration job might help buff up that resume. I'm still thinking about it.
Frank, If you get the job and become head of discipline, you should consider putting in a rule that no teacher can hit a kid unless he/she does something wrong and if they use a ruler it cannot be the old fashioned wooden three sided kind but must be a plastic one that bends. Dad
I will take your suggestions under advisement. I'm meeting with the current Dean after spring break to see what all of his duties are. Still not sure if i'll apply, my whole goal has been to have my own classroom.
so many questions... do you have a police officer on campus? Has there been talk of a need of one? do the parents have expectations of their children? is there a no tolerance rule? etc. are you an enforcer or do you get to set goals / expectations?
Just a few more days until beer, although I have to admit I celebrated the vigil of Palm Sunday at dinner Saturday night while Jimmy Byrne played and sang Irish and other old time favorites. Dad
That VA thing has been going on for way too long. Who would one write to? Our Secretary of Defense? Our Senators? It's scandalous. Everyone shows such easy patriotism and talks so respectfully about our service people, but the treatment of those who sacrificed so much is awful.
Officially I can eat chocolate, but it seems wrong to take such a holy day and eat what I was choosing as my fast.
I need to find some shoes to wear to church before Sunday.
Mary wore tights to church last night and so could not do the foot washing. She was so upset that I wouldn't just let her take her tights off (she had on a very short t-shirt dress) that she was teary through half of the service and went to the bathroom as the foot washing.

Happy Birthday Pat.
FYI- Manny (or anyone else) could use this pic against you at some time.

Hey - just a thought I had...
2022 will be the 100th year of Irish Independance. We should all plan to go on a joint trip. My guess, it's going to be a pretty good party.
Tom
Thanks Tom - For the record: He's laughing -- it wasn't real.
Good idea on the trip! We should probably reserve rooms now...

Bad Pat!
Happy Birthday Pat. Have a great day.
We got back from FL last night. It was a great trip. Very restful.

Laughing or wincing? It's in the eye of the beholder. Plus your sinister laugh all spells trouble.

Happy birthday, Pat!
Manny will use this against you, but it's funny.

Happy Birthday Pat!

Happy Birthday! Looks like you had a nice evening out already - doing anything special today? Have a good one.
Have a great birthday!
Tom, I love the Ireland trip idea. Everyone start saving now!
Happy birthday, Pat!
The photo is clearly a "love pat" and not a spanking! Hope Manny made you breakfast in bed, or at least let you sleep past 5 am!
Hey, what did you do for birthday fun?
Lisa
Does anyone know the actual day that is Irish Independance day?
Tom
I think April 28?
An Easter Monday?

St. Pat's Day
After church we went out for brunch with Cathy.

Make sure you get your brackets in. They are due by Thursday morning!
What are toasted specials? They sound special and toasty.
They are fancy grilled cheese. It's what they called them in Ireland.

So who is going to Moniica's for Easter? Will we be hunting for eggs in the snow? This weather is really getting old.
Today the Dean of Staff and Students at CPA came up and told me he was retiring and wanted to let me know in case I wanted to throw my hat in the ring for his job.

Demand from the meth heads has raised the price.

Frank,
I think there should be strict specifications on the size of the paddle allowed including what types of wood are allowed.
You may want to suggest this in any interview you have to show you are serious about not taking crap from those unruly kids.
Don't spare the staff and rod or some such thing.
Tom

Just a few more days until chocolate.

Dad
Just six days until Pepsi Max. Never would have guessed I'd miss pop so much.
saw Cathy at Super Saver on way to to work this morning.
We debated the need for real whipping cream and almond paste in life.
By the way - if anyone knows what would be better to fill a cake with - almond paste of almond pie filling - I wouldn't mind you weighing in!
Lisa
What IS everyone doing for Easter? My kids and their families and the Milbraths will be at our house Easter afternoon.
That VA thing has been going on for way too long. Who would one write to? Our Secretary of Defense? Our Senators? It's scandalous. Everyone shows such easy patriotism and talks so respectfully about our service people, but the treatment of those who sacrificed so much is awful.
No kidding!
Waiting months for appointments and surgery only to have it cancelled and moved to a different location and put back on a waiting list for attention.
lisa
To tell the truth... it sounds like autism treatment.
Happy Easter, Everybody!
Happy Easter!
