Nosh was very posh, and they posted a sign on the door "closed for a private party", so Des and Jen booked the whole place for the evening. Great food and a full open bar, there was a pit area with big couches and a tv, so many of the kids hung out there. We visited with many people, old friends and lots of family (Emily, Merk G. was there)probably 80-100 people. Thanks to all who came, and those who came to the wedding and thank you Des and Jen for hosting a 2nd party!
Cathy had a great turnout for the Mother's Day Brunch, including Mom and Dad...thanks Cathy and Steve for hosting. If anyone has photos from the reception, can you send them to me? Thanks!
Agreed, it was an excellent party! Great great fun, and everyone looked beautiful, especially the bride and groom. and me. And the after party brunch was delish.
Agreed, the party was a fun time and the couple was beautiful. Mary, all the pictures I took are posted on Facebook. Brunch was delish and it was fun to see everyone. Mia's team won their division of the tournament, and she made her first two goals during the last game. The weather was beautiful and all in all it was a great mothers day.
If there's one thing I hate about corporate life it's meetings that have Strategic Framework in the title and involves the use of Power Point presentations.
This usually means that the essence of what they are trying to convey could be summed up in a third of the time and words.
It's usually a lot of bloviating by someone who's goal is to blow you away with thier depth of knowledge on a subject that has very little to do with your area of concern. It's a political tool. I am not political. Nor a tool.
I AM political, in that I am interested in politics. In the Nebraska primary last night, a very conservative Republican rancher woman from western Nebraska came out of nowhere and blew the presumtive nominee out of the water for the nomination to run against Bob Kerry in the Senate race. All thanks to huge last-minute money from the Ricketts. Yeah, the Chicago Cubs Ricketts. She blanketed the airways for the last week with a big media buy. Probably nobody but those who used to live in Nebraska even care about this, but it's interesting. Money and politics....thank you, Supreme Court.
Stevo and I walked nine blocks down to the Main Street Farmer's Market with our burlap Farmer's Market bag to celebrate our new healthy earth-friendly pedestrian lives last night. We bought a bunch of turnips and a pie. We ran into some vendors who are Elberts (Paul?) from Whittemore and Algona who live near Marne now and farm hydroponically. Oh, yeah, we also bought some killer yellow cherry tomatoes from her and next week when we don't buy a pie because we won't have a bogus reason like our anniversary as an excuse I'm going to get some of her tomato preserves. And some home-brewed chevre and Three Bees honey. There were four middle-aged women playing some very laid-back bluegrass. Nice.
We got a new furnace in March along with a new thermostat. Today I tried to turn on the AC and it doesn't work. Air comes out but it's not cold. Do I I just not know how to work the new thermostat or is something wrong with the AC? I really hope we don't need a new one bc it would have been cheaper to buy it with the furnace.
Great party, Des and Jen! And thank you for having everyone over for brunch Cathy and Stevo!
In case anyone is hosting a cocktail party anytime soon and wants the recipe for Whittemore Fogs (Randy?), Caitlin and I took a little video over Easter: http://youtu.be/xW5f-Ah_UCQ
One time when I was very hungry after a late, crazy night in college, and another time when I was just very hungry and pregnant, I found my car keys in taco bell bags in the fridge. Perhaps the worst case of pregnancy brain farts I've experienced was about two months ago when I tried to put Buddy away in our extra fridge instead of his kennel. In my defense, they are right next to each other.
You refrigerate and reheat taco bell? Don't get me wrong, I love TB. Real meat or fake meat, I don't care. That Doritos taco loco supreme is crazy good, but I don't think it could be reheated.
Garden is done - tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, 4 kinds of beans, 3 kinds of lettuce, spinach, onions, snow peas and sugar snap peas, radishes, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, strawberries, rhubarb, several herbs, and turnips. All in either a 7 x 15 foot bed or in pots. Almost done seeding the bare spots in the lawn, too! Stay away, birds, squirrels, bunnies and deer! Stay away, slugs, bugs and moles! Welcome worms! Next year I would like to plant asparagus and aronia berries behind the fence. Actually, the biggest threat to my garden this year will be roofers. Now for a month or two of after-work zen-like hosing, before it becomes a chore.
Cathy asked me to report about Stevo... Yesterday he called Cathy from work, he had benn throwing up blood. When she got there he was VERY weak and she took him to the RE at Mercy hospital...his blood pressure was very low 90/60 but his heart rate was very high..160...his heart was trying to pump blood that wasn't there. They put a camera down his throat and discovered what they think is an ulcer and some clots...he spent last night in the ICU and took more than 3 pints of blood. His hemoglobin was 6 and is supposed to be between 16-18. Thuis morning his color is much better and he feels much better. He is having a procedure (probably right now) to possibly cauterize the ulcer and to check out the clots. Cathy will know more this afternoon. She was able to sleep on a couch in the ICU with him last night...she's hoping they'll just let him stay in that room for tonight. I will post more after she calls.
I spoke to Joe and he said that as soon as they get the ulcer taken care of he should be OK. The pulse and blood pressure should be taken care of as soon as the ulcer is taken care of. Monica
Lisa just called with news about Stevo...he had the scope and they found that he has a series of many small ulcers...some are already showing signs of healing. The Doctor did take a biopsy because he said that something didn't look right to him, so they will get that result on Friday. She said Stevo looked alot better than the past few times she had seen him. He did get to eat a full dinner tonight.
Stevo's surgeon was in a short time ago - he said the biopsies showed no malignancy but that he still has some reservations....so we treat the ulcers aggressively and get the blood pressure under control and they want to scope him again in six weeks just to be sure about the weird area in his stomach. They gave him some more blood last night so he's still seeping a little but will get out tomorrow and can go to work on Monday if he feels OK. He still tires easily but doesn't look like a zombie any more. Thanks for your prayers and good wishes. Take care of your tummies.

So, let's hear all the dish from the big wedding bash.
I think monthly birthday recognition is good enough. The many bdays are too much to expect someone to post.

Congrats to Des and Jen! It was a great party! And thanks to Cathy for hosting the delicious brunch!

Molly, why can't I find your pics on Fb?
It was a great time. I told Randy I want to go back to Nosh.
The party was swanky. It was great to see Mom and Dad at the Jayjack brunch!
The roofers started this morning. We have about 12 guys on there right now ripping off the shingles.
The hitch with the roof project: our chimney cap is copper and insurance didn't want to replace it with copper!
Lisa
Lisa, be sure to grab the old copper chimney cap before one of the 12 does!
Leave it on if it is not too damaged - whatever else they put on won't look as cool.
anyone have Graham or Danny's phone number? I'm moving this weekend and could use some help...

Power Point = lack of imagination.

Emily, the pics are in my mobile uploads and there's only a few. Frank, only Danny still lives there but I don't know his number.
Tom, don't they always serve lunch during powerponts?
Cathy, now Ricketts senior is going after Obama...a bunch of ads about Barack Hussein Obama and his ties to that crazy minister.
You mean that crazy minister he listened to for years and years?
Tom
I'm watching Finn play in the backyard naked. Do I need to bring him in and put his clothes back on?
Only if he's gonna run for president some day.

I think it knows that if you live in Minnesota you're not to be turned on until the 4th of July!
Is your new furnace a "heat pump" type?
Mike Straub sure had a great baseball game the other night!
it's too hot for this time of year. seriously, 90's already?
I like the heat, but I also like to have A/C.
Mike did have a great game. Fun.

Has anybody seen my keys?
Check the drawer where you keep your kitchen knives. That's the last place I found mine when they had been missing for a few days.
Monica
Monica! I found them in the corporals drawer in the sacristy! I can't believe you put your keys in your knife drawer! Hahahaha!

Cathy, I finished mine today also. Next year I'm putting in a bigger one.

You need some kids to haul buckets of water about 100 yards despite the fact that about $40 worth of garden hose would save a whole lot of work.

Here's hoping / praying Stevo makes a fast recovery.
Happy Birthday Pehlan.

Happy Birthday, Phelan! Love you!

Great news! Any diet restrictions?
Scary ordeal for Cathy and Steve. Glad to hear it doesn't sound too serious. How do we take care of our tummies?
Happy Birthday, Phe! I wish we could see you. Have fun!
Glad to hear Stevo is doing better. Please say no diet restrictions. That would stink for him.
Monica
Happy birthday Phe! 30!!!!
Yay to Steve's recovery!
P
No diet restrictions but also no alcohol for at least a few months. We're home - Yay! - and slept in our own bed last night.
