The Cleveland Parade was a record crowd. 500,000 people in attendance. One of these days we will ditch the kids and get a room downtown because people were havig a lot of fun at this thing. I mean, they are going to have to clean the streets with earth moving equipment. The bottles and cans strewn about outside bars was amazing. This was at 1 in the afternoon.
We saw Betty. We had a chance to visit with her for about an hour or more. She's as fun and gracious as ever.
How was St. Patrick's Day? Did the lamb cooperate?
We went over to Milbrath's in the evening for split pea soup and toasteds - yummy! and kept the M's up way past their bedtime watching "The Quiet Man."
Thanks everyone, it was a good weekend! Went out with Josh for a couple drinks on Friday, and was pretty mellow the rest of the weekend. Great to see the Jim and Erin family yesterday on their way back home from Chicago.
I'm still debating Easter, would really like to come. But I'd be coming without Josh and Manny hates his carseat and has figured out how to unlatch it, which he does when he's upset or just sick of the car. And he will not let it be relatched.
I can't get to this particular article but I saw one like it earlier. Unless her parents are funding this themselves I have to agree with you. There are certain things your kids give up when you become president and I think a vacation with friends is one of them.
Well, the Bush twins went on lots of trips, earning the name The Tequila Twins...they were asked to leave Argentina. I don't remember hearing much objection to thrie trips. I do think these 13 year old kids would have had as much fun at a Dave and Buster's...really, they're too young to appreciate the "architecture" of the city...stupid!
The St. Patrick's Day parade was FUN...there are pics on FACEBOOK, posted by McCall's. I have a few of the reception. I'll try to figure out how to put them here! The Straub's won (meaning last to leave) Maureen McCall is steadfast and wants to win, I won the first 2 years here and she won last year, this year I asked Joe4 to pick up my slack...he left at 2:10 a.m. with no McCall's in sight! Thanks Joe!
The date of the our Omaha reception has changed. It's now May 12th. Mark it down, that date is final. Cinco De Mayo was Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway weekend and, well, he has more influence in that town than we do (and everywhere else for that matter). There was no room at the inn, so to speak. And Jen hates mangers.
Expect a Save the Date over email and a paper invite to follow.
A preview: the event will take place at a wine bar on the periphery of the Old Market. Kids welcome, of course - plenty of cheese flatbreads to go around. It will last until 10 or 11. After that, the stout of heart will venture into the market to drink stout. Hotels a plenty. Friday is the tail end of a convention called Big Omaha at the Qwest (Link) so book now if you need a room.
Joe and I are living it up on my spring break by going to see two shows in two nights! Last night we saw an Omaha band, The Mynabirds thanks to Caitlin's recommendation and then tonight we saw one of our FAVORITES: David Wax Museum. They're playing in Omaha tomorrow (3/23) and Cedar Rapids Saturday. Mexican Folk, but the lead singer is from Columbia, MO. For your sampling pleasure: http://www.davidwaxmuseum.com/Site/Home.html
Oh! And Pat, we're going for Easter. If you and Manny want to take the Megabus to Des Moines, I bet we could carpool. That might not make total logistical sense, but if you don't want to drive out alone, the offer stands!
Just a quick update about Mom/Grandma (check your e-mail, too) Dad said that Rosemary's husband, Bob, is in the same hospital as Mom, just down the hall...they all went together to dinner on Wednesday night. Rosemary doesn't feel great and neither does the priest they took to dinner!
Don's girlfriend Dawn became a Grandmother last night, however the baby has complications and was life flighted to the Mayo clinic...Dawn is driving there right now. Don said it's something about the baby's inability to breath, they have to perform surgery. Don asked for all our prayers!
Thomas and Peter are on Spring Break this week. Peter is participating in a Zombie Survival Camp every morning. They are holding it in a restored frontier village just outside of town. Should be fun.
FINALLY raked the oak leaf pile off my garden thia weekend. The Rhubarb was 15 inches high, twisted writhing stalks of flourescent yellow with stunted green leaf globules at the ends. I hope it turns normal. I ate one short stalk and it tasted OK.
Yard work aplenty this past weekend. The owners before us had put in tons of flower beds and shrubs. The entire back yard has beds around the perimiter. I mean the entire boundry is a flower bed.
The couple got divorced and the man lived in the house. He neglected it all. So this past weekend we cut and trimmed 3 years worth of overgrowth.
Now we have to rent a stump grinder to remove some smallish tree and bush stumps. Rent a tiller so we can return a couple of the beds to grass. And then buy tons of weed blocking fabric and wood chips and lay that down.
We went to Molly and Brian's for lunch yesterday. Brian's mom brought steaks to grill, we brought watermelon, Molly made potato and pea salad and Jay and his girlfriend brought a box of cream puffs for dessert. Perfect first deck-sittin', steak-grillin' afternoonof the summer. Last year at this time we were shoveling snow. Again.

I bet Amanual will enjoy sharing your cake with you! How was your night out?
Come to Easter!
Creighton won for you, now hopefully ND will too!
Now the Guilliatts are getting in the car to drive to Auburn, NE for Scott's grandma's memorial service.
Sooo, how was the parade?

Leave at night so he'll sleep. That's my tip of the day.
Monica
I’d call this abuse of privilege. What’s wrong with her parents?

So, I'm predicting Everett Golson will be the qb for ND. Any other predictions?
P
Did he call you on your birthday, or something?
Happy Birthday, Pat! Hope to see you and Manny on Easter. I second driving while he sleeps and lots of snacks and stickers to keep him busy.
I've really tried to like one of these republicans. I can't. But, I sure as heck can't vote for Obama.
Who's the Libertarian candidate?
Tom
Happy birthday, Pat! Great picture!
Many thanks for the wonderful Irish key lime pie they brought for dinner. Perfect!
Lisa
That seems to be a fundamental con-tradiction: Irish key lime pie. Dad

I love da Mega Bus...Pat, there's no seat belts on the Mega Bus...Manny would love it...you catch the bus pretty close to Ed's.

trying to leave phone messages en espanol. no helpful pantomime, no feedback, no es bueno.
How's Dawn's grandchild? And, Monica that sounds funny, and fun!
Richardsons, Reeders and Jayjack-Sanchezs are staying at the Westbend motel over Easter. Anyone else?
I'm bringing brownies and a salad of some sort.
Tom, be ridiculously careful with the stump grinder. I hear they're beasts that want to eat your feet.
How are the two pregnant sisters feeling? Can't wait for Easter!
