We got back last night from Grace's graduation. We took Catie and Mia (Oscar was consoled with a promise that he and mom would go shopping.) It was good - maybe a little too much speechifyin' and the president at one point actually said, "Change. Change, change, change." She was talking about change. The main speaker was Charlie Steiner, Bradley grad and radio broadcaster for the Dodgers. He was in on the beginnings of ESPN and his first hire was Keith Olbermann. His talk was pretty much all about him with a wrap-up to the effect that you never know what's going to happen so get out there and go for it. Bradley has a very pretty campus right in the middle of the city so everything is all close together. I thought it had more students than Crieghton but now I'm not sure. They didn't say anything about the students graduating with honors or say what the stoles meant or state their status when their names were called, but they had them listed in the programs with an explanation. Grace was one of twenty summa cum laude grads. And they sternly requested that families not hoot and holler until each college was finished and everyone mostly complied. We had a nice party afterwards at a local wings joint in an outdoor patio room that has thick see-through plastic walls and a roaring fire pit that kept the place sweater-warm. The kids could horse around and play and the wings and beer were good. Ryan's parents brought cake and roses and a lot of his relatives came. Ellen and Andy (and Caroline) came and we all had a fun weekend.
Happy Birthday Boys! Tom, your Christmas present will be sent tomorrow, but probably won't be there before Christmas. I'm not sure if we'll make it to Whittemore this year, Merry Christmas to all if we don't, and somebody post those Christmas sweater pics please!
Saw Mia's program this morning. She was the cutest zebra ever, trying to teach a penguin to dance. Then at the end of the story they defiantly sang a couple of Christmas carols a cappella. All programs, seen and taped. All presents except a couple, bought and wrapped. Christmas eve menu planned. House disgustingly messy. Ugly Christmas sweater not obtained, although I do have an 80's era backup. See you all soon!
Happy Birthday to Graham and Tom K! Hope you guys have fun. Graham's expression is like "you cannot be serious!"
Just got back from NE last night. Saturday night we were able to go to a Creighton game. It was the debut game for a 6'9" 270 Venezualan - Echinique. He looks good. And I'm really impressed by the coach's son- Doug McDermott. Does not play like a freshman at all. Monday we drove down to Auburn, NE and visited with Scott's Grandma Maxine (93) and Grandma Bertha (90). It was a nice trip. I think we have all our gifts and I am about half way through wrapping. Still no ugly sweater.
Des, if you see this - the Santa Fe is up for grabs for Christmas travel. I don't think Pat and Josh are using it.
Oh, and when is everyone coming for Christmas and how long will you be there? I think we are going Christmas Eve and we are either leaving the 26th or 27th. Right now Scott has to work on the 27th but he's thinking about taking it off.
I'm assuming our IA gift box arrived, yes? Our MN one arrived on Saturday. Joe3 please remember to bring the three we sent back with yah. Don Sr. your gifts from Donny are here for you when you come to visit. We have not sent out cards yet...hope to before 2011...but, who knows!
Ok, the kids and I are heading to Granny and Grandpa's on Christmas Day with my folks. I hope the sweater party is Christmas day because we have some good ones. We will be there until the 26 or 27th also. I can't wait!
This New Years Eve will be the FIRST in 15 years that Tom and I get to spend together and now with the kids...woohoo! Movies, pizza rolls and sparkling juice (whiskey too, thank you Joe3) is on the menu!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, we came home from Whittemore to find out that Mary Laurel has strep throat. Molly and Monica, your kids are the most likely candidates if they do come down with it. I don't know who else Mary got close to.
We had a really fun Christmas and the kids are already asking when they can go back to Granny and Grandpa's.
Poor Mary! Yes, what are the signs of the onset of strep?
Sam cried for his Hanky several times on the way home. I think he's getting over it though. We had one similar to it that he had previoiusly rejected. Now he's kind of taking to it. I found three just like his on Ebay and they were 39-44 dollars. I'm not paying that much. Too bad Carters doesn't make this thing anymore. I'm pretty sure it retailed for $14.99

I just looked it up - Creighton has about 7000 students and Bradley has about 6000.
Way to go Grace! Does this mean you go get a cushy, high paying job?
Tom

Does it really matter that the Jets coach has a foot fetish? Isn't kind of nice that he loves his wife and her feet??
P

Tom

What a great Christmas!!! Frank's pics on Facebook are great. Dad fed many Straub's on the 25th, it was great.
That's 3 greats...things happen in 3's.
Des,Jen and Caitlin left for Omaha, they may run into Lady Gaga as she is in town with her Omaha fiance, hitting alot of places we know.
Ed and Phelan left for Chicago with Poco in tow...it is sad when everyone leaves.
I'm figuring out my new Kindle!
Who or what is POCO?
Monica

Monica, Poco is Phelan's dog Pocahontas. Very cool dog...our Gilly is in mourning.
Uh Oh, Oscar has been coughing and has a runny nose, is that strep-ish?
