Nance, photos of you are impossible to find. Here is Fancy Nancy at her birthday tea. Joe, photos of you are almost too many to choose from, here's one from Joe and Brianne's wedding. Happy Birthday to you both!!!
No - looks like it will be football only for Eli. Football and basketball for Liam.
You should have Joe call and give Eli a pep talk about lifting weights. Eli says there isn't a program for him at school yet but I'm pretty sure that's not true.
Liam looks like a football player playing basketball but that's okay. Good for his footwork.
Had a nice day with Nance and the kids on her birthday.
Happy Birthday to Joe 4. Unfortunately, the great actor Leslie Neilson died on your birthdays. I guess that makes my Naked Gun collection worth more money.
When I came to work an hour ago it was blue skies and sunshine. Then a big black cloud rolled over us and we're having thunder and hail. Out to the west I see blue skies and sunshine coming our way again. weird. Yeeks, now my officemate's computer just started up spontaneously. I'm the only person here.
You think that's weird? This is weird. So, after dinner in Key West, Josh and I stopped at a palm reader sitting out on the sidewalk. Just for fun we decided to do it. (In fact Josh wasn't going to but then changed his mind) The guy was about 70 years old, long white beard, east Indian looking (found out he was from Trinidad). He looks at my entire hand, not just the palm and says, "You need to always keep your eye on your blood sugar level. Be sure to get it checked, your family has problems with this." And then some other freaky correct stuff, like, you like to play with words. Then Josh goes and the first thing the guy says is "You are obsessed with time. It is very important to you that you are precise in regards to time." CRAZY. Then some other stuff that was right on target. I was wishing I hadn't had a couple of drinks so I could remember everything else. P
That is weird. You should check your fasting blood sugar at the first opportunity. This is weird too. After the sun, clouds, thunder, hail, and sun again came winter. It has turned dark gray and windy and the temp dropped about 25 degrees in an hour and it smells like snow. I guess that's not so weird, it's Nov. 29. But it was rather sudden. My body is not in shape for the hunch-and-scurry yet. I think winter is declaring that it's here to stay.
Thank you for the birthday wishes! We had a very nice day...sunny, 45 and no snow! Tom and the boys picked out cool cards and gave me a new charm for my bracelet. We had chinese for dinner and choc/peanut butter torte for dessert...yumm! Oh and I didn't do a dish all day and didn't have to help with homework...woohoo!
So, Monica and I were talking about starting a Straub exercise contest. This would not involve weight loss. Any interested parties? We were thinking it could start right after the new year...the idea is that we could assess in two ways: number of steps taken and number of days worked out. If we all got odometers this could work. For those of you who choose to exercise in different ways (swimming, etc.) the number of days worked out category fits. The contest would last for three months. I'd recuse myself from winning in the first cycle (though I'd still participate)since I have the advantage of warm weather, but I'd join in the next one. Any takers? Men, women, kids? I know Monica and I are going to do it. (Although, I guess if it's just the two of us, Monica automatically wins...)
Great idea...I think alot of us are already working out...I walk 3 miles/5 days a week...Joe3 goes to the YMCA/5 days a week...so if we participate do we have to increase this rate?? Altho I tried walking last night, it was so cold, but Gilligan loved it...could only do a mile, it was 10 degrees!
I know a lot are working out - so am I. It's just a fun way to keep the motivation going or to become motivated. You can do whatever you want to in regards to increasing your current or maintaining.
I guess what I mean is that you can count what you are currently doing and increase that if you want. It doesn't have to be beyond what the present situation is.
BIG NEWS!!! I'm going to be sitting in a private suite watching live the specticle that will be LeBron James' return to Cleveland. They are going to have tons of added security, cops and undercover cops.
The place is going to be going ape %$*!. This town has been talking about this day since the day he left. I wonder if someone is going to really try and off him.
I'm in! Everyone logs their exercise sessions - I think it would have to be based on days worked out. It's going to be hard to walk when it's icy out so other types of exercise could count - minimum half hour? hour? (who's got an hour?) Based on hours, maybe? The prize should be a gift of Omaha Steaks or a gift certificate to the Cheesecake Factory or something ironic like that.
Ron Santo died. I wish they would have inducted him into the Hall of Fame before he died. I know he didn't like the Mets, but it was fun to listen to him broadcast a Cubs game - there was no doubt about his feelings for the Cubs and you could tell within seconds of getting the game in whether they were ahead or behind.
The basketball game was fun. It's not often that you get over 20,000 people heckling in unision.
Of course he was booed when introduced and everytime he touched the ball during the game. It's worth noting that Lebron isn't the only former Cavelier playing for Miami. Ilguaskus, a center played for Cleveland last year and was a popular player. When he left he was much more magnanamous than Lebron. So when this this guy was introduced he was cheered loudly by the crowd.
Some of the chants during the game were "Akron hates you" "Scotty Pippen" (derided LeBron as a guy who is Wade's second fiddle) and "Who's your Daddy" (referencing a never denied rumor that LeBron's mom had 'relations' with a couple of LeBron's team mates last year - pretty harsh).
Also, by contrast, the Cavelier's owner was cheered wildly by the crowd when he entered the arena.
All in all, a fun night to be a part of with the exception of a blow out win by Miami.
Joe3 had us all over for dinner Sat. on his new dining room table...he served veal cutlets, chic. breasts with scallops and 2 vegetable dishes, it was delicious...then we all disbursed to go watch different games. Betty, Mom and I decorated Mom and Dad's Sunday night and then joined Dad and Mike downtown for the Holiday Mart, Dad's office was full of vendors, as were many of the stores. It was followed by fireworks and then a songfest at the Whittemore pub, it was fun!
We're experiencing a cold snap right now - 38 degrees here this morning. Supposed to be the same tomorrow. I know it's not the same as 10 degrees but it certainly feels cold. No snow days though....
I'm in. Can we all wear them somewhere public? Will anyone notice?
I remember going past Molly's room when she was in high school and she was reading and laughing out loud. I asked what she was reading and she said, "Chaucer. It's dumb."
Well, somewhere in there will be a good joke, apparentlee.
We went to Catie's orchestra concert last night. They sounded pretty good, played some classical music. Oscar sang us his ABCs, ending with "Next time won't you NOT sing with me," which he thinks is very funny.
Speaking of George W. Bush...have you seen those billboards where it's a pic of him saying, "Miss me yet?" My Mom thinks Algona should have a billboard with Tom's face that says the same thing, ha!
I definitely think the "Ugly Sweater" should HAVE TO be worn in public.
We really miss Sarah's!! But I'm excited to tell that Mike has been working with Brian Buscher and 2 other guys to get the Perky Parrot bar open very soon. Brian flew in a cocktail expert from San Fran who's been training them...very fancy stuff, like 7 different bitters. Making sidecars with real egg white, and on and on...Mike was the best bartender in Algona before, now he'll be the best in the Midwest! Opening around Dec. 20th.
This is interesting...go to WikiLeaks and on their main page go down and click on: "Collateral Murder"...it's an actual video of an attack on a group of unarmed civilians and 2 Reuters journalists.
I watched portions of that video. Classic case of "shoot first ask questions later". There seemed to be one guy in particular who was very anxious and eager to start shooting. You've got to wonder what the back story is. Was he previously attacked and lost friends? Was he nearing the end of his tour and just wanted to make sure he made it home? Or is he just a dumbass so eager to shoot that he mistakes a camera for an AK-47?

dang. it's like 40 down here in Georgia today in a cold snap. I'm definitely coming home to Algony with my doggy probs around the 23rd. Des and Jenny'll be there on Christmas day around 4pm. I think for sure there should be a ugly Christmas sweater event/contest like we can just all go catch a Fog at Pitchers in style. So Bird Names got officially signed to this legit label we're pretty excited about: http://northern-spy.com/category/news/ I also went to a briss yesterday where they did the whole procedure next to the brunch table and had the baby sucking on a cloth soaked in red wine the whole time. It was educational. -phe
yep, Em, 17 inches. digging my car out tomorrow should be interesting, seeing as I don't have a shovel. on the other hand, I may have just created the ultimate oatmeal cookie.

Happy Birthday, both!
Happy Birthday to both of you! Hope you have fun.
Hey Tom and Nance-just a thought- Will Eli or Liam resume their wrestling careers?
No - looks like it will be football only for Eli. Football and basketball for Liam.

Tom
Oh, Tom, that will be fun. The people in Cleveland are so MAD at him. I don't know. LeBron may be annoying, but I think they're being a little harsh.
I couldn't sleep last night so I watched this movie til 3: a.m. on Netflix:

European movies are SO different from American. It was creepy and weird.

How was the game Tom? Fun?
Did you boo?
Is LeBron related to Nance? Is she taking proper security cautions?
Did he come over for Thanksgiving?
sorry so late...
HaPPY BIRTHDAY NANCE!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE4!!!
HAVE A FUN WEEKEND.

Who is going home for Christmas and when will you be there?
That's funny that Scottie Pippen would be deriding anybody for being ANYBODY's second fiddle.

Game On.
Does anyone want to have an ugly Christmas sweater contest?
Joe3 had us all over for dinner Sat. on his new dining room table...he served veal cutlets, chic. breasts with scallops and 2 vegetable dishes, it was delicious...then we all disbursed to go watch different games. I'll be in the ugly sweater contest. Sounds like fun!
We could all just vote on the ugliest one or the Judge could be the judge.

Congrats to Mike and the perky parrot.
I'm up 4 the sweater contest. Should it be held at the pub?
You have 4 UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS??? I'm a little worried about you, Frank.
Ugly sweater family photo.
Cathy, i'm working my way up to 12. 1 for each day of Christmas.
I like the familly photo idea.
Off to my last classes of the semester. I have to present my Chaucer paper, which is complete, but I'm still not certain what the thesis is. Yahoo.

I'll buy you a shot of whiskey if you include the word "refudiate" in your paper.

(days later) Didn't mean to shut down the blog. Who all is coming home for Christmas and when?
Sorry - no can do. We're thinking of coming during spring break. More time to make the trip and I will have some accrued vacation time by then.
Anyone ever notice how preteen boys can be just about emotional (hormonal) as some women? It's Crazyville around here sometimes.
Tom
Teens are fun aren't they?!

Are you getting dumped on in IA too? We've had 17 inches in the last 20 hours. It's tapering off now. Lots of shoveling.

Congrats Phelan! great news!
Wow!!! Big Surprose! 10 o'clock on Saturday night and Joe calls to ask if we want to have breakfast with him in the morning.
Nance and the boys are super excited. Me too. Gee and Papa's in the morning.
Congrats Phelan.
Tom
Gee Gee and Papa's
Tom
That's great, Phe!

We got so much snow that the roof of the Metrodome collapsed!
Congratulations, Phelan!
I saw that video this morning, frank. The lack of sound makes it seem even more menacing.
