Our night nurse took that picture, she said she asked Oscar, "Should we take your vitals?" and he responded with this. We are all doing well and glad to be home!

Anonymous said...

Also, Oscar was born in the same room as Jude.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh look how cute he is! And, his sisters are so darling. What do they thing of him? Especially Mia...loosing her "baby" status and all. Did you like the turtle stuffed animal and "little splish-splasher" balloon? I love turtles and frogs. ;-)
Congratulations...he's a beautiful, healthy baby boy! How are *you* feeling?

That turtle is perfect for his room - it's shades of blue and green (the room I mean)with sea creatures on the walls.

Anonymous said...

Yes we love the turtle and balloon (especially Mia). She is excited to be a Big Sister and would never have described herself as the baby of the family, even when she was 2. Thanks Nance and Family! I'm feeling good!

Anonymous said...

Congrats Richardsons! Oscar looks like he has attitude (the finger) and he also looks like he has large hands. Did you part his hair on the side for the photo?

I definately see a lot of his dad in this picture. These are pictures of a perfect baby. By that I mean a sleeping baby.

One provision they should have put in this "bailout" bill is that none of the "bailout compaines" would be allowed to make any political donations of any sort. Without that this whole thing is open to abuse.

This woman who wrote a biography of Warren Buffett was just on the Today Show. She said his one rule was this:

If there are two versions of a story about my life, use the less flattering one.

Then, five years later when she had finished, she gave it to him to read. He didn't ask for a single edit prior to publication.

Oh good...I'm glad he "goes" with the room...the turtle I mean. The lady at the Hospital gift shoppe was initially taken a back when I called and asked if if she was busy and if she had anything "awesome" for boys. Ha! Once I explained what "awesome" meant...we worked together well. I told her that she was really earnin' her money today (ha, ha) and she told me she was a volunteer...I wrapped it up shortly thereafter. Oops. :-<>
I'll be easier on the mailman when I mail out the gift today. :-)
I guess I'm not surprised that Mia-ain't-no-baby. :-)
Glad to hear you're feeling well.

I broke the Seton banana eating record last Friday...I ate 9 and then, my Teacher told me to stop.

Anonymous said...

He won't poop for a week!

Anonymous said...

Ok - so each of you owes me a beer for winning the guess the baby contest. Didn't know you were in the contest? Too bad. You still owe me a beer.

Congrats Brian and Molly, but you still owe me a beer too.

Anonymous said...

Ewwww, that is gross.

WE love Oscar! He does look like his dad. That delivery room worked pretty well for us and despite the fact that Jude is driving me to drink - all in all he turned out pretty well and I'm sure Oscar will too! Congrats to you all!

Let's not talk about the Mets.

The funny thing about Tina Fey's SP is that she doesn't even have to change ANY of the words uttered by SP. So funny.

Grandparents day at Jude's school was pretty cute but crazy. The classroom isn't very big and with 12 three year olds and a handful of grandparents thrown in and two teachers, it got pretty crowded. This little boy, Jeremiah, kept bringing books up to Dad to read to him, so Dad spent a lot of time reading to Jeremiah and another little boy, Joe, while Jude was sitting on incircle with the rest of the class listening to the teaher's story. I'm not sure why the teachers didn't aske the other two boys to join the circle, but Dad din't seem to mind reading to them.

Congratulations to Molly and Brian and Catie and Mia!

Baby Oscar already looks like a handful!

By the way -

South Bend was awesome!

When we drove into Chicago, Mary said that Ed lived in a very powerful place. At halftime during the game, she asked if the players got to lie down and take a rest.

A wonderful weekend!

I don't think I could eat 9 bananas all at once.

I agree with Tom on that bailout provision.

Suze Orman says pay down your credit cards right away now. Even the optimists are getting nervous.

Mia is so funny. When she was staying with us she said something (I can't remember what) that brought conversation to a halt. While we were looking at her trying to figure out what she meant, she said in a high, wiggly, silly voice, "AWK-warrrrd!" A couple times she laughed in that 3 Stooges horn-type laugh: Wah! Wah! Wa-a-a-ah! I heard her practicing it to herself to get just the right tone.

What's your favorite Paul Newman movie?

Anonymous said...

"Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid"!!!

but, also "Cool Hand Luke"...

and I'll just take a 8 x 10 glossy of him in a t-shirt in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"...I read an old interview with him and the reporter asked him about his 50 year marriage and wasn't it hard not to stray, with all the Hollywood starlets and he responded "Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home"...heehee

Anonymous said...

also...back in the day on movie sets he required a "sweat lodge" and a case of beer and between "takes" he drank all the beer!

I'm getting a sweat lodge.

Japan resuming diplomatic relations with China was boring in spite of the fact that I've read a few W.E.B.Griffin books about military intelligence guys who were operating in China prior to WWII. But those books didn't have all those names. The only Japanese names I know or can remember are Kobyashi Maru and Hirohito. Chinese....Chiang Kai Shek (sp?) and Mao. And Madame Mao or whatever. Feng shui. The Art of War guy - Sun Tzu. Sulu.

In an act of almost unprecedented partisanship Nancy Pelosi yesterday got up on the floor of the house just prior to yesterday's vote on the bailout and railed at length against republican economic policies. I can't stand that woman. Meanwhile, the dow gave away nearly twice the value of the bailout bill because our pathetic leaders can't take action. Meaning everyone of us with a IRA, 401k or 529 lost 7% of our savings.

Neither candidate delivered the votes needed. Obama couldn't get a single member of the congressional black caucus to vote for this.

George Washington was right.

Tom

Anonymous said...

I like her. Or, at least I don't dislike her.

I have hated looking at our 401K/IRA reports for all of 2008 so far. Depressing.

On more enjoyable news...the Twins have made the playoffs again with yet another impressive act of frugality. They consistently field a competitive team with a payroll that is a fraction of the big market teams.

This year's team features rookies playing in 5 out of 8 starting positions. The bullpen is equally young.

In general I don't like Minnesota sports teams because the fans are soooooo fair weather. But I decided I'm a Twins fan.

Tom

Anonymous said...

big surprise...Tom=twin

Anonymous said...

Wow, I'm REALLY glad I don't have an IRA, 401K or 529!!!
I do have a BRA that's sort of saggy right now.

Anonymous said...

I think Pelosi blew it big time yesterday. But anyone who switched his vote because of that stupid speech was not thinking of the good of the country. But what was she thinking? Anyway, it's not like there's no chance to come up with something more to the liking of the electorate. After the Jewish holiday, of course. (What holiday is it?)

I'm happy the Twins got in, although the spectre of World Series games being played in that horrible dome sends chills down my spine. When it comes down to the Series, the Cubs gotta win it and get rid of that 100-year curse.

Anonymous said...

Just for clarification. The Twins have NOT made the playoffs. They must win today in Chicago to do so. I wanted to go to the game but the tickets sold out in two hours.

I am rooting for both Chicago teams this year because I want to see what happens to this town if they both make the World Series.

Paul Newman was great in the Hudsucker Proxy and of course Slap Shot.

Anonymous said...

I forgot about Slap Shot. That was good. He was funny in the Hudsucker Proxy but that wasn't an example of his best work.

The giant squid is much more interesting than the Sino-Japanese whatever. And you're right about the Twins - I forgot about the playoff game. Stevo's with you, Ed - he wants an all-Chicago World Series.

Last night the Roto-rooter man was at our house until midnight.

Today we are nearly $400 poorer and we have a big problem in the line from the house to wherever the sewer may be. They never reached it!

So... what is that stuff you put down your basement drain to clean it out and discourage root growth? I think we really need to know this!

Ridex...I think.

Ed - time for a new poll. Might I suggest what super hero power would you get if you could? Some options...invisible, xray vision, super strength, super speed, and so on.

Me, I would take invisible.

That means you have $365 to splurge with. Go crazy.

I can't wait to pay another $4411 on March 30th...woohoo!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Hey, that's a dollar a day! Coffee money!

Anonymous said...

I bought 365 lottery tickets. JK...A case of nice wine would pay dividends...Suze Orman is starting to bug me...does anyone mimic her on SNL? BTW...the SNL skit is pretty much verbatim/Palin...it's so funny.

Anonymous said...

Honestly, paying taxes was sorta fun...everyone in the Co.Treas. office was very chatty, asking me about the house...Mom and Dad... etc...and then other people just hanging around at the courthouse were so friendly. I think I'll go hang out there tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't want to burst anyone's bubble but you were feeling the euphoria of your great luck in having that timely commission check. One of these times when your taxes are due you won't have the money and you will stress about the added penalties. I know this feeling well.

And of course all the people at the courthouse were happy. Their coffers were being replenished so the could spend wildly your dollars.

As I was approaching the pay window today I was calculating how many Chicken Kievs I need to sell to make my tax payment. About 990. Or hamburgers - about 2200.

I was a little more glum than you. At least we had the money this time and weren't facing the penalties. Now we just have to decide which vendors we will stiff arm until we get caught up.

Tom

Anonymous said...

Egads I don't think I could own a business - too stressful.

Can someone post the dates of Garrigan's remaining home games. We want to go to at least one more. Lotsa fun!

Anonymous said...

It cracked me up when SP said that John McCain was a "shining example of leadership" in dealing with the bailout issue. First of all, that's something cheesy a teacher says to like her 68th parent on parent-teacher conference night. Secondly, where did he lead anyone? The Republicans couldn't muster the votes needed. Now, I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I'm not sure about the bailout plan. ANd yes, Pelosi's speech ws stupid.

Sam cried all morning and I started drinking vodka at 4, but stopped at 5 so don't worry.

Anonymous said...

Tom,

I hope you enjoyed your time as a twins fan.

P

Anonymous said...

Good morning Pat.

Anonymous said...

No, I will remain a Twins fan. I usually pull for the underdogs.

Also, if I'm going to become a MLB fan it may as well be the closest team. Besides they are getting a brand new outdoor stadium. It's financed by tax payer dollars. I may as well enjoy it because none of it is my dollars.

But I bet the people in War Road or International Falls love the new stadium they paid for. It's only a 6 hour drive for them.

10-3 at Newll-Fonda
10-10 Home-North Iowa (Buffalo Center) Senior Night. BG should win
10-17 at SEWG-B should be a wipeout for BG somewhere south (within 15 miles) of Fort Dodge.
10-23 Home-Rockwell City-Lytton. surprisingly good so far this year.

I'll buy a drink for any out-of towner who posts the full name of SEWG-B correctly within 2 hours.

Vancouver isn't bland. But then, Canadians don't really consider it Canada. Toronto is supposed to be like NYC in terms of all the museums, center of the arts world (nationally), lots of parks, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. But it's the size of the Twin Cities. Nova Scotia just looks so darn pretty. And rugged, and sort of like Ireland.

Vancouver is nice. I lived about an hour away when I lived in Washington State. The winters are milder than our's (Iowa's). A progressive town with lots to do.

If you do go there say hello to the jailer for me. Let's just say I had to sleep one off. No charges. But I can say first hand I know what they mean when they say "he got bounced" from the bar. Two big guys on either side of me. Each had an arm and a belt loop. They swing the door open with your head when they toss you on the pavement. Yes, I got air. And amazingly no sooner had I stood and brushed myself off and the squad car pulled up on the curb. No questions. Just handcuffs and a free trip to the Grey Bar Hotel. The next morning was an amiable procedure as my valuables were returned to me and I was thanked for visiting Canada.

I thought them so nice my friends and I returned to the city several times. But we did lay a little lower.

Tom

Anonymous said...

But Pat, there's even less sunlight in winter there than the Twin cities! I've always wanted to go to NW Washington State/vancouver area. And apparently they treat hooligans with civility!

Anonymous said...

Toronto is slightly south of twin cities. Just slightly. Vancouver, does it get the rain Washington gets? I don't know....but I've been and while I visited different sites than Tom (no institutional experience for me) I loved the city.
I've only seen pictures and read about Nova Scotia.

p

Anonymous said...

Vancouver does get a lot of rain like Washington. But my attitude was I would rather put up with a few months of rain than a few months of snow.

Geez Tom...can't I just post a story about MY taxes without posturing from you...Just like you (and every other business person in town) we let certain vendors wait while we catch up after taxes...Mike and I can't be late with ours and just pay the penalty because we are buying this building on "contract for deed" and I would bet money that a certain L-Dog was up at the Treasurer's office at 8am to see if we had paid!...In a recession the easiest thing to sell is hamburgers and beer, so Tom I think you are set, as long as there is a friendly face behind the beer, people will come...Now, house sales after this week...we'll see!

Funny, dapper old man who loves this place. Heavy smoker for years. I forget the circumstances a few years ago but I offered to lift something heavy for him. He said, "Please do. I only have about this much lung left (he held his finger about an inch apart) and I need to save it for smoking."

Funny guy. He dared cancer to kill him and it didn't he's just old.

I'm going for the Brewers. I've always liked Milwaukee (used to go up there for summerfest and watch the Brewers back in the Gorman Thomas, Robin Yount, Paul Moliter era at County Stadium. Also, infielder Brad Nelson, a 1999 (approx) Garrigan grad was the last player selected for the 25 man playoff roster. He's got decent power, hits a lotta doubles, good rbi and on base % guy. The manager decided on him over some other guy because Brad had experience playing outfield and had produced as a pinch hitter late in the year when he was called up to the 40 man roster. He'd bounced up and down in the Brewer organization and I guess all the experimentation with him over the years paid off. GO BREW CREW!
