Dear Worried, It's always hard being a Republican...but keep your chin up (I know it's hard to do while scoring another line of cocaine) You should at least be polite to your cousin in social settings, I would suggest chit chat about Health Insurance...you know that nasty Barack Obama would like to offer health care to people like you, with aids, Ooooohhh the audacity of hope.
We saw Burn After Reading last night. Pretty funny. Mostly it was fun just watching a bunch of veteran pros do their thing and do it well. John Malkovich was great and Brad Pitt's no slouch. I think (now don't jump all over me) that George Clooney is sort of the Cary Grant of today.
Freedom Park is about 4 miles down the old Plum Creek blacktop from Sister Sarah's. We're the closest bar/restaurant to the park. It is owned by the ABATE (motorcyclists) organization. It's where they have their rally every year in July.
While this concert thing will be good for business I'm hoping it doesn't interfere with our annual Brainard get away with Nance's family. But, that's the peril of owning a restaurant.
Yah, particularly when our cabin is paid for a year in advance and we'd lose it if we ever missed a year. The concert dates are 20-23, so I think at the most Tom may have to go home 2 days early. Bummer...but, we've driven seperately to the cabin 'cuz of work before. Cool...if this was a big success! August could use a little somethin' - somethin'.
Is George Clooney coming to Algona Rocks? Seriously, if you thought this might be as big as Abate I might be able to come help out at SS's. I never seem to be able to come to Abate.
Yeah, Frank, those office scenes were the funniest. By the way, who was that third guy in the office when JM gets demoted?
Quick! Somebody email me the address list! Or tell me how to get to it! It fell out of my new computer somehow! I'm going to Burger King right now but I'll be right back!
Curly Girl is such a smart dog!! Pat...who is david burrow??
McCain says he is suspending his campaign (including Friday's debate) because of the financial crisis! I gues he's not much of a multi-tasker. (I suspect he's not ready for the debate)
It's a beautiful day here in Algona. We have our front doors open...little kids are walking by with backpacks on, walking home from school...a great time of year!
John McCain has skipped more votes during this session than any member of the Senate except for Tim Johnson, who had major brain surgery. He has cast a single vote in five months, since April 9. All of a sudden, McCain is demanding that the presidential race shut down so he can return to Washington?
If McCain can't handle this, what would he do if all 13 of his cars needed an oil change at the same time...in different time zones?? He isn't prepared... Speaking of oil, what's SP up to today?
If McCain can't handle this, what would he do if all 13 of his cars needed an oil change at the same time...in different time zones?? He isn't prepared... Speaking of oil, what's SP up to today?
So is this Rockgonewild 2009 for real...a new first time event? I can't find any internet hits for it except info about the one planned for next year. I hear so much about internet scams these days...
In 2003 Bush attempted to set up a whole new agency to regulate Freddie and Fannie. It was blocked by congress. A quote from an article: ''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
Then in 2005 McCain introduced a bill to regulate Fannie and Freddie. The bill never made it out of Committee. Every republican on the committee voted for it. Every democrat voted against it. Here’s a quote from an article:
“In this speech, McCain managed to predict the entire collapse that has forced the government to eat Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, along with Bear Stearns and AIG. He hammers the falsification of financial records to benefit executives, including Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, both of whom have worked as advisers to Barack Obama this year. McCain also noted the power of their lobbying efforts to forestall oversight over their business practices. He finishes with the warning that proved all too prescient over the past few days and weeks.
It never made it out of committee. Chris Dodd, then the ranking member of the Banking Committee and now its chair, was in the middle of receiving preferential loan treatment from Countrywide Mortgage, one of the companies gaming the system in the credit crisis. Meanwhile, Barack Obama took hundreds of thousands of dollars from the lobbyists McCain mentions in this speech, making him the #2 recipient of Fannie/Freddie money:”
Feel free to be a fact checker on this. I found these articles at 6 this morning with only half a cup of coffee in me. The first article is a NY Times piece. The second article was from a blog I'd never been to before. So that may merit some further scrutiny.
If this is true I think it could be a game changer in the election.
Yesterday only the Senate Finance Committee had any real say in the bailout negotions. Obama called John McCain early in the morning to discuss what, if anything, they should do at that point but McCain refused the call (he was meeting with financial advisors)and in fact didn't call back until late afternoon, meanwhile "suspending" his campaign and rushing back to Washington to save us all. He says he didn't get the message to call back. Yeah, I believe that.
I remind you that in 2003 the congress was not Democratically controlled. They achieved a bare majority in the last elections, and the Senate majority of 1 was the absent guy from South Dakota with an aneurism or whatever it was.
However, I have no doubt that both dems and repubs were feeding at those particular troughs. The best thing McCain ever did in the Senate was to try to clean up that mess.
Why can't Conquistador McCain encourage Palin to release her financial records?? It should be pretty "cut and dry" she makes $125,000 as Gov...Hubby makes approx. 45,000 part time "oil worker" and about the same for part-time "fishing worker" and $10,000 winnings from snow machine races....so what's the big hold-up??? (maybe they're trying to hide the kitty money)
I hope all goes well with the delivery. Tell her, yes, I would be honored if the name Thomas were chosen.
Cathy – you can’t say that a party’s nominee has no real say in ANYTHING. I’m sure both parties were looking to their candidates for what action should be taken. I’m also of the belief that McCain will knock some heads when he gets there. Mostly of those idiot republicans who want the corporate leadership to keep their golden parachutes.
Anyone else who is reading…George Washington warned that the greatest threat to our democracy was the notion of party. He said that if partisan loyalty became too fervent it could be the ruin of our country. I see this everyday. Especially on this blog.
McCain has proven himself as a person willing to go against the party line for the greater good of the country. He has fought for immigration reform, election reform, regulation of the lending industry. He was right on all of these major issues along with pushing the surge that has allowed us to save face and not pay twice what we are for oil.
You are hearing this from a registered democrat.
Follow your Pied Piper if you must. Keep your blinders as we all fall off the cliff.
This morning Josh woke me up and the first thing I said was, "do you have the potato salad?" Or, "Did you take care of the potato salad?" Something like that. What more boring topic of a dream could there be. All I remember is a huge bowl of potato salad. It was american, not german.
She's not yet. They haven't finished kicking people out. She's waiting for the call from Chuck Norris. I believe it will be Mercy (where Mia and Jude were born)
Washington for President! Other politicians who have a record of going against the party line; Chuck Hagel, Bob Kerrey (who said he quit the Senate to save his soul) - what is it with those Nebraskans? You gotta admit, some of the worst partisans in recent history were the gang of Republicans and their Contract on America led by Newt (the newt) Gingrich. What a bunch of thugs. Newt Gingrich is the dark side of Bill Clinton and that's saying a lot. Anyway, I don't care. Thank God we all have a farm to go to when it becomes a subsistence economy. I call the pink bedroom. Somebody send for some windmill generator blueprints.
Come to think of it, we might need a vice-president who can rustle up some grub for the White House staff. Can Joe Biden hunt? Are there moose around Wash. d.c.? Can W plow under the roses and put in some corn and cabbage and pole beans?
I don't think it's going to be Thomas. And Brian said that while no new Joes in several years has probably induced some general anxiety, it won't be Joseph either.
Molly seems very ready and very excited to go. We can't wait either!
Our photographer has pictures of the wedding up on her website. There are a lot, but you all should look at the ones from the file "fam&friends" and "reception." Lots of good, dancing Straub ones in there. The website is also listed on a little card in the thank yous I'm mailing out this week, but here is the address:
Hi Ellen...I didn't partake in the wedding poll because I couldn't make up my mind which thing was my favorite...it was all very elegant, also, I loved your dress and the bridesmaids, as well. Good Job!
Mom and Dad are on their way to Minneapolis to visit Emily and Scott and attend Grandparent's Day at Jude's school... Curly Girl will be so sad...she follow's Mom around the house, and sleeps with them at night...all curled up at their feet, under the covers. They'll be back in time for Garrigan's game against Southern Cal tomorrow night.
Go Molly go! I know the name! Haha! Brian spilled it to me at the wedding. But I ain't sayin. I just wanted to brag that for once I know something the rest of ya'll don't know.
I predict 7 lbs. 10 oz. 19 and a half inches.
Happy belated birthday ANdy. In the future you'll be able to celebrate with your new nephew.
Emily...I know the name, also...heehee. The middle name wasn't totally decided upon, though...I bet as more brew was consumed the number "in the know" increased!
Football Friday Night! Joe and the 3-1 #6 rated Golden Bears host #3 Southern Cal soulless vampires (Uh-Southern Calhoun County, but still just as intimidating as the other Southern Cal)! Huge district match-up! Bitter foes from the Hank Greer era! D-1 (6-5,285) line recruit (Ia! Ia State! Mizzou! Wisconsin!) and all-state tailback! 7:30 myinfocentral.com! Helicopter with camera crew from Channel 13 Des Moines lands on the 50 yard line at 7:15! Destruction and pestilence hang in the balance! Will the free world survive?
I'm not smart enough to know what's going on in Washington but I do know we have 46 trillion dollars worth of homes in this country that are NOT worth 46 trillion dollars.
And given Bush's dubious judgement in the past maybe it isn't a bad thing that we are taking a few extra days to scrutinize the Bush/Bernanke bailout plan.
Oscar Ramone (sp?) Richardson was born at 12:10 the morning of Sept 26, weighing 7 lbs. and 3 oz. and 20 inches long. (the smallest of all the richardson kids) Skinny, long fingers and toes, curly brown hair, wishes everyone would leave him alone to sleep some more. Nice dark pink skin. Does NOT like baths. Likes to curl over on his side and try to go back to sleep. Quiet guy so far. Mom doing well. Poem from Catie Richardson:
Roses are red, Violets are blue, if you poop on me I'll get mad at you.
My favorite thing about babies is when they fall asleep on your chest and you both take a nap together. I want one (baby) right now but only for the duration of the nap.
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (SEPTEMBER 26). This year you're traveling the paths you know will lead to success, and a few unknown and interesting avenues, too. October is bustling with social activities. Your heart is captured by an all-consuming love in December. Lifestyle upgrades happen in January. You'll lead a group with a high purpose in February. Aries and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 50, 2, 15, 43 and 17.
You share a birthday with Olivia Newton John and Brian Ferry. And George Gershwin.
We were getting a new roof on our office (garage) and suddenly inside the suspended ceiling collapsed all around Joan, without a single piece actually hitting her. So besides getting a new grandson, I get a day off work. Life is good. So what do you like: Ossie, as in Ossie Davis or Ozzy, as in not Ozzy Osborne? or Oz? or O? or Ray? I have a feeling he's a pretty laid-back guy.
OK, the Algona High School homecoming parade just went past the office...it was VERY lame. I'm certain I'm not biased. The GHS parade a week ago was much louder, more people and more crowd participation, and better looking King candidates. (These floats were just as bad as GHS's)
Poltergiest I don't care about. Fame remake would prolly be just as lame as the original (and will spin off incredibly lame and short-lived TV series) Red Dawn remake would be pretty good, if done right, without dishonoring the original, and I don't see how anyone could possibly improve on the original Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
I've subbed at two different middle schools this week, doing p.e. in both. One was 6th and 7th grade, the other was 8th and 9th. In one class the first day there was 4 Madisons and 3 Alexis. In the next few periods there was a few of each. Today I had another class with 4 Madisons. Also saw a lot of Alexis's and about 10 Alyssas, which was popular when I was in school. I didn't know it still was. Anyway, these are cute, but no one name anyone these anymore.
Yea, Garrigan was beaten by a bigger and stronger team. Not faster. But Garrigan's speed simply couldn't come into play.
The game was closer than the final score. We moved the ball on a few series and even got it down to a 4th and goal on about the 6 inch line. But we fumbled.
In Predator's play Liam's team (4th grade) is still unbeaten While Eli's (6th graders) are still winless.
Poor Eli's team. Another close loss. His team is so short on reserves that I had Liam suit up and be at the ready if we needed him. We did. He played 2 plays at defensive tackle. He held his ground. In fact, on the first play he pushed his man back a step.

Happy Birthday Andy!
Eat some birthday candy
You have a lovely bride
And a groovy lookin' ride
Hope your day is dandy!
Re: 2 54%s.
In this poll people could choose more than one response. In this case 54% of the repondants said that Donny was the best thing about the wedding and 54% said that the food was the best thing about the wedding. There were 11 voters in who participated but there were 25 votes cast since each could vote for more than one thing.
Hope that clears that up.
Happy Birtday Andy. I hope you get an ISU victory.
Stevo and I have a Cubs banner and a Mets banner up on our front porch. Rumble at the Jayjacks.

That's a beautiful speech.
I've been having a grumpy, self-pitying sort of week and it was like a cooler of Gatorade over the head. I'm all right now.
Well, it's really too sad he did away with himself. Yes, we should all get a speech like that every so often.
p
I'm sure you young'uns already know this, but Molly put some wedding photos on her facebook page.
So if Molly should have a baby on Granny Cash's birthday, should she name him Vernice? or maybe Nelson? or Andy? The possibilities are endless...
They should name Grover Cleveland Richardson
As a first time visitor to the blog i would like to say hello and thank you for the birthday wishes. I will have to start reading this more often to stay up on all the family gossip.
Happy birthday, Andy! Hope it's a great one.
And just to clear things up, there is no gossip on this blog. Only cold, hard facts. Especially when it comes to politics.

Dear Abby,
I am a crack dealer in Beaumont, Texas, who has recently been
diagnosed as a carrier of HIV virus. My parents live in
Fort Worth. One of my sisters lives in Pflugerville and is married to a transvestite. My father and mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana. They are financially dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Dallas. I have two brothers: one is currently serving a life sentence at Huntsville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994. My other brother is currently in jail awaiting charges of sexual misconduct with his three children. I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute who lives in Longview. She is a part time'working girl'.
All things considered, my problem is this. I love my
fiancée and look forward to bringing her into the family. I certainly want to be totally open and honest with her. Should I tell her about my cousin who supports Barack Obama for President?
Signed,
Worried About My Reputation
But...Randy can be RANDY!
Dear Worried,
It's always hard being a Republican...but keep your chin up (I know it's hard to do while scoring another line of cocaine) You should at least be polite to your cousin in social settings, I would suggest chit chat about Health Insurance...you know that nasty Barack Obama would like to offer health care to people like you, with aids, Ooooohhh the audacity of hope.

If that doesn't work, try this one:

Hi Ellen...I didn't partake in the wedding poll because I couldn't make up my mind which thing was my favorite...it was all very elegant, also, I loved your dress and the bridesmaids, as well. Good Job!
Mom and Dad are on their way to Minneapolis to visit Emily and Scott and attend Grandparent's Day at Jude's school...
Curly Girl will be so sad...she follow's Mom around the house, and sleeps with them at night...all curled up at their feet, under the covers.
They'll be back in time for Garrigan's game against Southern Cal tomorrow night.
Southern Cal???
Nice pictures.
Molly's on her way to the hospital.
Nice pics.
I would like to throw into the ring the name "Tater Salad"
All you Ron White fans know what I'm talking about. For the rest of you pick up (rent) his DVD "They Call Me Tater Salad"
I'm not a huge fan of stand up comedians but this guy is hilarious. Especially, on the rental I'm talking about.

Mom and Dad will be here soon!
Ooh, Cathy and Steve on #6. With Six You Get Egg Roll.
p
Emily...I know the name, also...heehee. The middle name wasn't totally decided upon, though...I bet as more brew was consumed the number "in the know" increased!
Cathy...you know Southern Cal...#1 in the region, very tough.
Southern Calhoun County.
Where's that baby?
And the baby's name is...? How is everyone?
I'm not smart enough to know what's going on in Washington but I do know we have 46 trillion dollars worth of homes in this country that are NOT worth 46 trillion dollars.
And given Bush's dubious judgement in the past maybe it isn't a bad thing that we are taking a few extra days to scrutinize the Bush/Bernanke bailout plan.

Yes what is the status on the Richardson family?
Joe, does young Joe have to go up against this monster?
p
Not sure how they'll line up. Last big-time lineman he played he was still playing hard in the 2nd half and the other guy wore out.
Baby?!?!?!?!
I hear tell that the Southern Cal team sacrifices and eats kittens before and after every game. The coach wears a tri-horned goat mask.
Tom
Hey Ed,
As JP Morgan is buying out WaMu, think you can get in there and wipe out my credit card balance?
Special report! Presdumbident speaking!
p
Oscar Ramone (sp?) Richardson was born at 12:10 the morning of Sept 26, weighing 7 lbs. and 3 oz. and 20 inches long. (the smallest of all the richardson kids) Skinny, long fingers and toes, curly brown hair, wishes everyone would leave him alone to sleep some more. Nice dark pink skin. Does NOT like baths. Likes to curl over on his side and try to go back to sleep. Quiet guy so far. Mom doing well.
Poem from Catie Richardson:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
if you poop on me
I'll get mad at you.
Welcome to the family "O".
Ed - what are saturday's powerball numbers?
Keep that kid away from the So. Cal locker room.
Tom
My favorite thing about babies is when they fall asleep on your chest and you both take a nap together. I want one (baby) right now but only for the duration of the nap.
Monica
Happy Birthday Oscar! :-)
How exciting! Congrats Richardsons and Jayjacks!

Dear Oscar:
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (SEPTEMBER 26). This year you're traveling the paths you know will lead to success, and a few unknown and interesting avenues, too. October is bustling with social activities. Your heart is captured by an all-consuming love in December. Lifestyle upgrades happen in January. You'll lead a group with a high purpose in February. Aries and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 50, 2, 15, 43 and 17.
You share a birthday with Olivia Newton John and Brian Ferry. And George Gershwin.
Congratulations Molly and Brian!!
I love the name.
We were getting a new roof on our office (garage) and suddenly inside the suspended ceiling collapsed all around Joan, without a single piece actually hitting her. So besides getting a new grandson, I get a day off work. Life is good. So what do you like: Ossie, as in Ossie Davis or Ozzy, as in not Ozzy Osborne? or Oz? or O? or Ray? I have a feeling he's a pretty laid-back guy.
when he gets older and starts playing football they can call him O.R. because that's where people end up when he tackles them. ohhhhhh yeaaaahhhh.
They might call him Onion Ring.
so someone just told me there are plans in place to remake the following movies:
Red Dawn
Poltergeist
Dirty Rotten Soundrels
Fame
my question is are there no more original ideas left?
Poltergeist is a perfect movie!!
I'm going to call him Orrrrr!
Wow. That was a sad game last night.
Any photos of the new baby?
p
Tom
Notre Dame looked good today.
yeah, but I looked better.
