Whew! I've been trying to get on the blog all morning and kept encountering "Server Error" messages. Did anyone else? Sometimes I think it's our provider.

Happy Birthday, Granny and Gillian. We hope you have an awesome day! :-)

Eli is happy to report that he has a cell phone. His number is 341-7759. Tom's is 7758 nad mine is 7757...worked out cool. :-)

Dental question.
Tom went to the Dentist today. He had a loose filling which the Dentist removed. He is rescheduled to have the filling replaced in 2 months. Isn't that way too long to wait? This is the same dentist who told me I had a cavity...scheduled a filling in 94 days and on day 62 I wound up having a root canal. Seems crazy...yes?

Anonymous said...

Is there only one 92-year-old dentist in Algona? This sounds crazy. Does he do the root canals?

Mom, in honor of your birthday, everything in my garden is blooming all at the same time. July might get kind of dull, but right now it's beautiful.

Happy Birthday Gillian!!
You just keep on smilin'
cause you have great teeth!
Brush often and don't go to Uncle Tom's dentist!

I agree...this sounds cRaZy. The Dentist is not old. Tom's age. Nice and modern office...a neighbor to Mike and Mary! He, "sounds," smart and is professional in other areas. However, I think this is nuts and was unsure if I should call and politely say, "Say, this is way too long to wait. If yah can't see Tom in the next week...we'll get it filled elsewhere."
I remember back when I had my cavity (ultimate root canal-$700 out of pocket and performed by him)...Kelli called a few days later to make cleaning appointments for Joe and Betty...they were scheduled shortly thereafter. I called and asked about it and the receptionist said that filling and cleaning appointments are scheduled differently. I stated that I felt fillings were more urgent and it was met with an, "I'm sorry." Sigh.
Dr. Kennedy~ This same Dentist said that he went to a conference which said that patients, such as Tom (Rheumatic fever history), no longer need to take penicillin before dental work...is this true? Now, I'm concerned...'cuz Tom hasn't been taking it since this information came to light.

Happy Birthday Mom! Hope you had a great day. Spring birthdays are the best, but of course, I'm biased.

Happy birthday Gillian. I remember babysitting you for almost two weeks when you were two. You were so good!

Fox news says some bombshell will be dropped tomorrow regarding Mrs. McSlimey. It's big, very big, they say.

Anonymous said...

It already dropped, she IS a bombshell!...

Maybe Rev. Wright counseled her behind closed doors, or some crap like that, I can't wait to hear what FOXSLIMY has to report.

Anonymous said...

My guess is that it's about her senior thesis at Princeton, which Princeton was witholding until after the election but the Obamas released it themselves, or possibly, since Fox is running a story about how Wright's church has accepted 15 million in federal grant money over the last 15 years, that she helped write some of the grants. Thousands of churches in poor areas have received "faith-based" grant money to help with social programs, but Fox is running it as a shocking expose because of how Wright has trashed the federal government. Her thesis basically states that the higher up the educational ladder black students go, the less likely they are to identify with the "black community" at large. Ya think? But I'm sure a highly motivated reporter can pull a few phrases out of there to make it controversial. As to the church, Barack Obama has said that he didn't help the church get any of that grant money. Maybe Michelle did? That would be a little disingenuous on his part. But still, not a huge shocker. Let's see what Fox comes up with and how they treat it. Fair and balanced I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

I think it's about a video that is rumored to be out there with Michelle O. sitting beside Louis Farrakhan and she (supposedly) used the word "whiteys" while talking about the oppression of black people.
Some say that's why Hilary has not stayed in the race so long. And others say it won't be released until McCain and Obama are well into debates.
P

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I just read that too. Stevo said that a while back Hilary's people said something about something coming out in June, but I doubt that they engineered this, because it's too late to help her. Also I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt, although I don't like her. If Fox has something, why are they sitting on it? Are they waiting until the Dems have a presumptive nominee to blow him out of the water?

Anonymous said...

Oh I don't think Hilary had anything to do with it. I just think she was waiting around to see if it materialized and blows things up.
Yes, lots of doubt about whether it actually exists.

I can't believe anyone would be upset about the "whitey's" remark...now if she referred to the whites at Princeton as "tighty whitey's" (I'm sure there were a few) then I may be alarmed (not)...can't believe this is the bombshell.
Lighten up people (ooopps can't say that!)

what's the secret to a good roux?

p

Anonymous said...

It's a secret.

Anonymous said...

low heat over at least an hour. put on stove with your flame at just about it's lowest setting. stir occassionally to keep the flour from burning. It may brown a little which is fine. The cajuns use mostly brown roux.

Tom

Anonymous said...

Pat...you're watching too much Oprah...haha...what are you rouxing?

Anonymous said...

Some low country boil.

NO, I'm making vegetable curry ....but i was short by about 45 minutes on the roux. It tastes good, but it's a bit too thin and not a very pretty color.

Thank you Tom.

Hey Nance, regarding the prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental procedures. The dentist is correct that it is not recommended for rheumatic heart disease with no valve damage. Antibiotics have been given for years at a huge expense and risk because some studies showed that with dental procedures there was transient bacteremia(bacteria in the bloodstream) and they thought it may cause endocarditis. New studies show that you have about the same amount of bacteria in your bloodstream each time you brush your teeth and not everyone comes down with endocarditis. So the American Heart Assoc. has backed down on the patients that require prophylaxis. However, the dentist should double-glove because of Tom's proclivity towards sleeping with strange men under boardwalks.

Anonymous said...

I wondered why the boardwalk at Fake Lake has a few loose boards...Mom and I were just there.
Those folks we saw weren't just birdwatching!

Anonymous said...

Thanks Joe! Just when you were beginning to sound like a fancy pants...you brought it down a notch...thanks for keepin' it real. Yes, double-gloving it is a good idea...of course the Doctor which Tom had at KRHC doesn't believe in glovin'-it at all!
BTW: Tom's tooth will be filled in 10 days and for free as it was a filling the Dentist did last Summer, therefore, he said he would replace it.

Pat~ I would get a gator license...just to have.

Yes Mam!

The girls started Karate last night and we had to sign a 6 month contract! Yikes! They have white suits and belts and last night learned the knife hand slice (among other things I cannot remember).

Mary was in her element. She could not have stood at a better attention. After we left she told me that black belts do not shove their clothes in their drawers at home so now she would start to fold her clothes before putting them away.

One of the instructors was a Josh twin. Wiry and thin. Glasses and heavy brows and totally on. Attentive ernestness. Hope Josh is ok with this description.

Obama can thank George Bush for his nomination. Why? Because no other president had as a diverse cabinet and staff as Bush. This allowed the American public to become more comfortable with minorities in power positions. I don't mean the public at large. Just those predisposed to a dubious opinion of minorities. I'm not saying he owes his nomination in whole to Bush. But, I believe this was one of the underlying reasons for his acceptance by the public and therefore his win. He can also thank some poor decisions by Hillary's campaign. Primarily, the decision to sand bag on the contests leading up to super Tuesday.

Just my thoughts,
Tom

p

Anonymous said...

I agree that Bush had the most diverse staff in history. But who did he listen to? Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove.... I bet Colin Powell wishes he'd died before he joined that gang, and Condi Rice is basically his yes-woman. Oh, yes, and Alberto Gonzalez, offering legal opinions on how to circumvent both the Constitution and the Geneva Accords. Stellar. I agree that Obama owes at least part of his popularity to the revulsion people feel about what the Bush administration has done to America.

Anonymous said...

I do think Obama was more than gentlemanly in his praise of Hilary in his speech last night (good speech). And Hilary was gracious, although people on either Fox or msnbc were joking that, far from conceding, she practically offered him the vice-pres spot. They all started giggling - that was funny.

Anonymous said...

He HAD to be gentlemanly. He has a tiger by the tail in all the angry Hillary supporters. The only thing worse than an angry white male is an angry white woman. One of the talking heads said last night that if only 9% of the people who voted for Hillary switch over to McCain, McCain will win this thing hands down. In some polling as many as 30% of the Hillary people said they will not vote for Obama.

And as a Biden person I will not vote for McSlimy.

Tom

Pat, I would like for Josh to take a picture of you executing one of those flying scissors kicks. That would be very blogworthy.

Lt. Sulu's getting married to his partner of 21 years. They're both wearing white tuxedos. Checkov is best man and Uhura is Matron of honor. Captain Kirk's not invited. Sulu got down on one knee (not two) and proposed once the Supreme Court refused to overturn a statute in CA allowing gay marriage. Stuff like this is pretty common anymore so you can't say they're going where no man has gone before.

Sulu really doesn't like the captain. I think he should cut him some slack because of the mad cow disease.

Read this question, come up with an answer and then scroll down to the bottom for the result. *This is not a trick question.* It is as it reads.

While at the funeral of her own mother, a woman met a man who she did not know. She thought he was 'amazing'. She believed him to be her dream partner so much that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What was her motive for killing her sister?

Give this some thought before you answer, see answer below.

Answer:

She was hoping the guy would appear again at her sister's funeral. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test developed by a famous American psychologist, used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer.

Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly. If you didn't answer the question correctly, good for you.

If you got the answer correct, please let me know so I can take you off my e-mail list.

It was actually Dollar General. I bought 12 items for $15.50. One I bought bc it is so odd. It's got a large picture of our lady of guadalupe on the front. It's flat, like a shiny envelope and it says "Parche Poroso Guadalupano do Capsico" For temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints. A plaster. It was my most expensive item.

Eli had a ball game yesterday a.m. and afterward his friend/teammate and his brother a friend/classmate of Liam's came over...and, they're still here! It's going well...they're having fun and all are well behaved...enough. I just need to make sure they don't stay so long that they all get sick of eachother. I bring this up because as I was visiting with their parents, on our drive, last night...the Dad asked me about Patsy Straub. He is a former classmate of yours...Dan Marlow. I told him Patsy was doing great and living in Florida. :-)

They are looking at a house in our neighborhood along with others...they just really need to sell the house they have. Their children, Jess (11) and Patrick (9), are good kids. After we finished visiting...they mentioned that they were gonna go out and eat...I suggested the Patio at Sarah's...and, they did! :-)

We have our own news!!

The guy we bought Algona Realty from (and the past Broker) is in the news...today's headline: "McEnroe Charged with Sex Assault"...article goes on to say he's also charged with tampering with a witness!! Rumor has it that it occurred while he was showing a house. Luckily it happened last May 2007, we bought Algona Realty in August 2007.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Wasn't his alleged victim...mentally challenged? CrEePy guy!

Anonymous said...

Yikes! It's a good thing he doesn't own any of Algona Realty. How old is he?

Glad to say I failed the psychopath test, although it might be because I get too impatient and look at the answer before I try very hard.

The fire department is hosting a fire hydrant party right outside the rectory. I love it. They do it all over town throughout the summer. Too bad it's 72 degrees with intermittent thunderstorms today, but they're out there shrieking and laughing (the kids, not the firefighters; they're hanging around being cool.)

Ooh, the garbage guys are handing out our curbside recycling bins this week. They just went by too. Things are hoppin' in CB today.

Anonymous said...

***Good thing they didn't mention the business.***
Here's the article:
ALGONA - Charles Louis McEnroe, 72, of Algona was charged with two aggravated misdemeanors on Friday, May 30, resulting after investigation of an incident that occurred on or about May 31, 2007.
According to court documents, McEnroe assaulted an unnamed 46-year-old female at 604 S. Dodge St. with the intent to commit sexual abuse. Additionally, McEnroe is charged with interference with official acts - witness tampering, another aggravated misdemeanor, for attempting to bribe the victim into not testifying against him.
While the assault happened in Algona, the Kossuth County Attorney's Office has indicated that the charges have been turned over to a special prosecutor from the Palo Alto Attorney's Office. McEnroe's initial appearance and plea will need to occur before Monday, June 16.

Dollar stores are a great place to buy ziplock bags and candles.

Mia has this bag she begged Molly to buy for her at the Goodwill Store. It's really a shoulder bag, sewn lovingly by someone, and it's a giant chicken, complete with wings and quilted feet and a zipper down the back. It's hilarious. She LOVES it and takes it everywhere. It's her overnight bag, purse, backpack, whatever. I think it cost a dollar.

Algona Realty had Open Houses last night...as I arrived to my house a little boy ran over to my car and said "It's open house night 5 to 7!" and then followed me everywhere and helped put the sign in..I said you better ask your Mom (cause he was following me into the house)..He ran off then came back and said his mom said he could come to the Open House as long as he didn't get in my way!! (He's 6 years old) He then checked out the entire house yelling comments to me like "This is a great room" "I really like the kitchen" etc...as I was upstairs turning on lights I heard a scream and ran down to the basement...he was slammed against the wall on the floor and looked hurt...he had turned on the treadmill and it was on high speed and it threw him off!! He said "I better lay on the couch for awhile" I told him he needed to go home he said "No I can't I'll get in trouble" (I had people coming into the house) then he yells up to me "I have bad news, I'm bleeding"...I finaaly convinced him to go home...as he left he said "I"m just gonna tell her I fell down". I said goodbye.

On Thulco-yeah, I love the links to Yale and Harvard as well as everything else. On this site he used to list 4 addresses for the law firm, THUL-ONE, THUL-TWO, etc. I think one of them was someone's basement in Emmetsburg. One was in Omaha. I do feel inadequate that I can't read most of the Latin.

Gillian did actually get a few gifts for her birthday, apparantly not that memorable.

Joe 3 I have been to some of those sites to measure body fat and I find the results dubious. Not because I think I am in better or worse shape than it says but because they only ask for height and weight. A 6'2" 235 lb linebacker undoubtedly has a different body fat content than a 6'2" 235 lb couch potato. Maybe if they asked for waist size or other meaurements I would have more confidence. So really, you may only be about a 25% tub o'lard.

Obama would be insane to select Hillary as the VP. Why would he want Bill underfoot. Actually she would probably sabotage the campaign in order to run again in 4 years.
