Seamus -

Enjoy your stay in Dog Haven. You had more time on solid ground than most animals. You were the perfect dog. See you soon, friend.

Fun times,

D

Heard the story about the pregnant man, saw a video of him, he was on Oprah. My first thought was that he embodied all that's wrong with contemoprary American society-aimless technology, moral decay, fascination with 15 minute fame. My second thought was to wonder how in the world he was gonna deliver. Ceasar would not have leant his name to the trenching required. Then I saw where the guy was a gal, a transgender. Prolly solves the delivery problem (depending on how far along his transgendenation is) but now the guy's (gal's) certainly an icon of present times.
Happy Birthday Mike, Ellen, Donny, Pat.
Des-whattya mean I'll see you soon?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I saw a bit of Oprah, he was a model in Hawaii when he was Tracy. Beautiful. Apparently when he had the transgender surgery, he didn't have a hysterectomy, knowing he wanted children some day. His current wife cannot get pregnant.

Happy B-day Ellen and Mike. Spring birthdays are the best!

I'm finally back online. Started looking at houses yesterday. Didn't see anything that got me excited. Of course the two we were most interested in sold two days before we arrived here. BUmmer. Also, after traveling 2000 miles, when we were 10 miles from our destination, a rock bounced up and off our windshield, cracking it. Bummer. We continue our search for a home today in St. Louis Park.

I dated this guy for a while about 10 years ago. Tom and Mom and Dad met him in St. Paul....we went to dinner and an Irish performance - I can't remember if it was the Wolfe Tones or not. They say from Manhattan but he, and a couple of the band mates are really from Mpls (or, edina in his case.) This is them on David Letterman.

Garrigan's Gala was last night...it was alot of fun, a circus theme...Joe4 was the announcer of guests as they arrived.
Highlight of the night was when Mom and Dad were honored with an award for their dedication to Garrigan (along with Jack and Ginger Geelan)...they walked to the front to accept...now their name will be on a plaque in the lobby! They were surprised!

Happy Birthday Mike Straub!

Omaha Mike, it looks like you took the lead in the tourney pool. What are you going to do with the $45? That's a lot of Subway. with their $2.99 special, you could get 15 sandwiches!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, so sorry Mary and Mike. He was such a good dog. :-(

Happy Birthday, Mike! :-)

Cancun was perfect...had a wonderful time together. :-<>

Nance, tell us more.

Mary, what did they say when presenting the award to Mom and Dad?

Jeez-another nut cult in Texas. You get the idea that there are hundreds of them sprinkled throughout Tx, Montana, Idaho, etc.

It was a vacation spent in true, "James," fashion. Lots of beach/pool-side R&R...no sight-seeing except for the evenings out shopping and having dinner.
On the trip down...we upgraded to First Class for $99/each. Totally worth it as we were pampered and oh-so-comfortable during the flight. We tried to upgrade on the return...but, it was full.
We stayed in a beautiful Hotel that was all inclusive. We ate at the expansive buffets for both breakfast and lunch...but, went off-site for our dinners. We ate at Palomo Bonita (Mexican), the Hard Rock, Pat O-Brian's (in honor of my Straubness)and Cambalache (first class-Argentinian Steak House). The Palomo Bonita had a Mariachi Band, the Hard Rock had a live band while we sat outdoors, alongside the Sea, at Pat O'Brian's we sat outside & the bartenders made drinks a kin to Tom Cruise in, "Cocktail," and the waiters served drinks atop of their heads...some were truly over 3 feet above and some had drinks on a tray that they spun around at your table before service...ScArY...I had to look away. :-<>
The Hotel had a variety of pools to choose from. The first day we went to the, "Wet-n-drinkin' bar." Oh my gosh...it was a cesspool of drunkin' people drinkin' and wettin'...literally! The water, by 3pm, was very yellow with lots-o-non-descript-floaties. I would only dangle my feet in, however Ann and Julie sat completely in and to date have shown no signs of illness...we'll see. There was a super drunk Romanian Dentist from New York with his much younger and sober Romanian wife, Cornelia. He was obnoxious and quite, "pushy," with her...she came to sit with us as I invited her. He infused himself into a group of young guys/gals and we were certain it would come to blows as he kissed one guy and shoved his tongue in his mouth...without warning nor permission. The next day, my sister-in-law, Julie, found the perfect day-spot and we made it our, "own," for the remainder of our stay.
I picked up a lot of cool souvenirs and even found a CELTIC/Cancun Tee for Tom! Ha!
The Carribean Sea was phenomenal and the water was perfect. We laughed a lot and had a great time together. :-)

Anonymous said...

How could there NOT have been a fight once the drunk Romanian stuck his tongue into a guy's mouth?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the guy didn't mind. Sounds like a week in heaven, except for the drunk Romanian dentist.

Man, I'm sorry I missed Gala this year. We usually try to go, but this year with a graduation and a wedding....yikes. Congratulations to Mom and Dad. That's cool.

By the way, we'll send out announcements soon, but Ellen graduates May 9, with just a small celebration at her place afterwards, and we'll have a graduation party in Council Bluffs on May 17. Molly will also host a wedding shower that weekend so that people don't have to drive twice, so save the date!

Yah, I think the Dentist was spared because he was so intoxicated and they decided to give him a, "break." He was lucky...'cuz there was more that he said/did which I found too unsavory to share on the blog. :-<>
My Dad babysat and did an amazing job. Tom was gone, more than usual, due to staffing at Sarah's.
My Dad did the following housekeeping *each & everyday*:
Made all beds.
Dishes.
General pick-up.
Vacuumed bedrooms.
Collected garbage.
Swept out garage (once).
Swept/mopped hardwood.
Cleaned off top of the fridge (once).
Picked-up basement toys with boys.
Homework.
Go Dad! :-)

Anonymous said...

Oh and he went grocery shopping (I left him a long list) with Eli, Liam and Betty! Okay, I'm done now...back to work. :-)

Congratulations Joe and Mary on your recognition...very nice and well-deserved. :-)

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Mom and Dad. I'm very pleased Garrigan honored you.

I do wish we had all known! Between First Communion, moving in, some other expenses, etc.... we talked about but decided that it would be too much. I would have gone if I had known!

Congratulations again!

Wyeth up over two and a half points today!

We were going to take Tom "out" some time this week but it went so FAST...Sarah's had a big after Gala crowd...lots of fancy dresses!
I was wishing also that they had told us about Mom and Dad's award, I think we could have had a bigger table...I sat next to Fr.Raemaker, my shawl was tucked under my chin practically. Cleavage seems bigger sitting next to a priest!

Anonymous said...

Nance, can your dad come babysit at my house?

Anonymous said...

I try not to get annoyed about stuff when it's just something someone didn't think of or overlooked, but I wish we would have known about Mom & Dad being honored. I've been chewing on it all day.
