We took the Richardson kids out to a picnic, games and LONG hike at a nearby state park last night (slumber party) and on the way home well after dark I was driving with Oscar right behind me and I asked if he was awake because we had promised a stop for ice cream and he assured me, "I'm not tired for ice cream, Nini, I'm just tired for sleep."
Thanks for the birthday greetings! I started the day at Mass with Mom and Joe and Betty, and then Dad took everyone to the Chrome for breakfast...after that Mike and I went out to Smith Lake and picked out a camping spot. Later on we had friends and family join us for grilling and a fire (and smores, thanks to Joe!)...it was a great birthday. We came into work but are going back out to camp tonight.

Just texted with Mary. Dad is out of surgery but it the procedure didn't work. Not sure why. They will try a different method after labor day. He will be going back home tonight.
So, I returned from Africa and ended up with a 102 degree fever two days later. I told someone I thought it was dengue fever (joke) and then the next day the paper said two cases of dengue fever have been reported in the area. Crazy. Anyway, feeling much better and found a way to post photos. I put them on the old Straubexercise blog. Not high quality - I was instructed to not take photos of people. (other than us). I don't know why some are huge and others small...I downloaded all of them at the same time.
Oshallow-rooted crabgrass hiding shyly amidst the daylilies until,in a month of century temperatures in a vicious midnight sortie, you have conquered, invading like the Cong under the thropping blades of departing choppers. The Daylilies have disappeared under your nodding seedheads, leaving no trace but the brown stalks of dead flowers, memorials to your dreadful retreat. Come pout, you bastards. I'm taking you to the Landfall Hilton.
Please write a poem about the nasty deer who have eaten all our hosta, petunia and yews.
Some please pray for news: Randy's brother in law had a heart attack on Monday. He collapsed after arriving at work and they paddled him. Two more paddles in ambulance. He is on a respirator and something is pumping his heart for him. His body temp has been lowered to keep brain from swelling and to keep his body from having to work too hard. He is in a medically-induced coma. Yesterday they tried to warm him up and things didn't go so well (not sure what happened) and so they returned him to the cold coma. He is 50 something, diabetic, had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. We are all worried.

This photo is from the U2 concert, one of the few times I took my eyes off Bono!
Mike would get beat up if he wore that shirt to a Huskers game!

Mom, I hope you had a great birthday weekend at your "lake house". I saw the pics. That park looks amazing.

We enjoyed our lake house very much! We're going to sub-lease it for a few weeks though, haha. Mike is back out there right now with a tripod camera.
Good one, Cathy...I just read that at 5 p.m. yesterday Bubba Starling was the #1 search item on Google.

That was supposed to be "come out"
