We wento to a College World Series game last night thanks to our neighbor Ann - 12th row right behind home plate. It was interrupted in the 6th inning because of rain and a tornado warning and it got pretty hairy there - open concourse, no enclosed rooms but the bathrooms, heavy merchandise racks blowing over, wind and dirt and debris flying in circles around the stadium, absolutely NO communication, updates, instructions or advice from loudspeakers after the one announcement askng us to evacuate to the concourse. Non-midwesterners were looking a little panicky and there could have been a stampede but people were determined to be civilized. Outside the stadium people were leaving their cars standing on city streets and running into the nearest buildings. Beautiful park - like a smallish major league stadium. Oh, this was funny - when the grounds crew deployed the infield tarp, one girl fell down and they just kept pulling it right over her. People were yelling, "Hey! Man down!" But after they stopped, she just stood up under the tarp (she was about in the middle) and walked out to raucus applause. I would have thought it was way too heavy for that. The rest of the game will be played this morning. We had been planning to walk across the pedestrian bridge and have Molly pick us up but she drove over in the downpour to get us outside the park. Thanks, Molly!
Anytime Mom! I was peeved at the news stations who were reporting that all 20,200 people had been evacuated safely and were taking cover in nearby businesses, when I knew for a fact that my family was still in the stadium. I also think it's wrong that they made no announcements or instructions to the people there. Especially with all the local people on high alert for a flood that could ruin life as they know it.
So Finn has a fractured elbow. Scott is with him and the pediatric orthopedist now. I hope his cast isn't like the kind that has to be held out from his body and I hope he doesn't have to wear it all summer. He fell down running while holding hands with Jude. Still can't figure out exactly what happened.
Did you hear about that Michigan basketball recruit? He was in a plane crash that killed his father and stepmother. But the crazy thing is that he and his father were in a plane crash years ago that killed his mother and two siblings. I think I would never fly again, which would be hard if you play basketball at Michigan. (this is assuming he's ok. Right now he's in a drug induced coma.)
Thursday night massacre: All parish staff from the newly combined parish were made part-time and paid hourly. My pay got slashed by 1/3. Some were even more. But nobody lost their job. Pissed off, panicky, sad, scared. Trying to be jolly.
Had a creepy feeling. Kept telling myself not to worry about what I can't change. I'm giving myself a week to rage, mourn, make bitchy little remarks, ask brisk professional question like "So is this on the clock?" etc. (kidding) It's not like I lost my job.
totally sucks. asking someone to do the same amount of work for a third less pay? I guess they figure if you don't like it you can just quit. So sorry.

I woke up at 5:30 telling Stevo we have to get 5 life jackets over to Molly's house today. So, make room.
Just heard from Emily. Poor little Finn is might have broken his arm. They are at the ER.

Oh, poor guy!
No way, nothing is allowed to enter our house right now, the door is a one way for junk going out! Poor Finn!

I'm hoping he turns out left-handed now.

did any of you see that coffee is 12 bucks a can? might switch to tea.
Maybe I'll switch to hot water with a little milk and sugar in it. Like Granny Cash used to have.

Oh no Cathy! That's scary. And, didn't they have to know that was coming? Couldn't they have warned you?
Sorry...
P
Cathy that stinks. Did you see it coming at all? You don't have to be jolly.

Sorry to hear this, Cathy. It almost sounds like they were afraid to make tough decisions so it became a compromise.
Maybe some people will fall off and the staff will thin out and those remaining will become full time again.
