The above post is a link to the news story about Scott's job in NYC. Pretty interesting.

i like how in the video, Ellen doesn't really say anything, but lots of other people tell her what she should say.

HEre's soemthing funny from my class: They just finished writing a paper that had to do with faith and diplomacy. (They'd read an essay by Madeleine Albright). One of the papers said that people should be required to wear something that signifies which religion they are (never mind the problems with the idea) He said that Christians should wear crucifixes around their necks and Jews should wear Yamahas.

I wrote in the margin, "This is a motorcycle."

In other news, I am unexpectedly starting back to Full-time work tomorrow. I knew I was getting this position, I just thought it was happening an a couple weeks or months, but my boss asked if I could start tomorrow and I said yes. Is anyone interested in taking up blog posting as a hobby? I fear I won't be able to keep up with the birthdays, and don't want to feel too guilty. If you're up for it, please contact me or Pat or Ed.

Congrats Joe and Brianne! Very happy for you.

And congrats Molly. That seems like very short notice to take care of business before starting work. Good job on the blog this past year.

Congratulation Joe and Brianne! How exciting.

I'm feeding the cross country team tonight? Thirty two of them. Spag. with Italian sausage. How many sausages should I cook? Limit them to one each? We have breadsticks and salad also.

I've heard "motorcycle" used in this way before but I don't know what it means.

1 big sausage each and tons of spagetti.

Why are we congratulating Joe and Brianne?

They're engaged!

joe j said...

Yes, we're engaged!

Thanks for all the kind words. I proposed to Brianne in a canoe in the middle of a lake. I figured that way she either had to say "yes" or swim back. But maybe I should let her tell it:

We're very excited, and we can't wait to celebrate with all of you.

Thanks Pat, it does seem like short notice. But my kids go there with me so no planning for a babysitter or anything, I just have to get back into the 9-5 mindset. It's been awhile.....

The Swine has hit our house. I predict a month of sick kids. One after the other.

Oh no fun. Are you sure it's the H1N1? Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Scot just FedExed me some NY bagels.

Congratulations Joe and Brianne. Why are you so small? You are no bigger than Oscar's head. I am looking forward to your lilliputian wedding.

I rode up with in the elevator this morning with the Mayor's brother, Bill Daley (he works 2 floors above). I told him my idea for lighting the Olympic torch (if we get the games) - having a dairy cow kick over a kerosene lanntern and he just laughed and said that he would pass it on.

m.e. said...

Ed, that funny! Do you see him Daley?

Happy birthday Oscar and congrats to Brianne and Joe!

Did anyone see the pic of the Obamas with the first family of Spain? The daughters are all "gothed" out and freaky looking. Hilarious.

And in case you don't care about the Spain or their president, here's are some pics of a Bengal tiger in a feeding frenzy:

I thought we were supposed to receive our checks late in the third or early in the fourth quarter... we won't get them until next year!

No. Soon, this year.

I hope so. I have some really bad carpet I need to replace.

oink...oink...how's the swine Monica?? What were the symptoms?

Anonymous said...

Head ache, cough runny nose, high fever. We were the first to let the school know and they freaked out. You would think they ebola or something. I had a call withing 20 minutes from the school nurse and a mass email was sent out. It really isn't that bad. My kids have been much sicker than this. Maybe a day and half of feeling miserable and then a little longer with feeling tired. I talked to nurse and she said lots of kids are out with the same symptoms. I probably wouldn't have had Tom tested if Joe weren't a doctor. He just went into work with Joe and I picked him up later. I think lots of kids have it and just don't realize it.

Monica

em said...

So, what do you do to treat it? There's really nothing to do, is there? When is that vaccine coming out? Jude has had a headache, cough and runny nose for a while now but no fever.

Anonymous said...

Nothing. You can give Tamiflu but that only shortens it by about one day and lessens the symptoms a little but it can upset your stomach. I'd rather be fluyish without the stomach upset.

Did you serve a side of swine to the cross country team?

My doctor said last season that way more people were walking around with it than what was reported. Who had it? Just TOm so far?

Anonymous said...

Tom, but Peter is home today.

The cross country was here when Tom was sick but I didn't realize what he had. He stayed up in his room most of the time.

The team was funny. The idea is to carbo load them and send them home early to rest. But they come in and wolf down the food( freshman have to go last and are not allowed to eat at the table with the others) and then go out and play football for 2hours. They tape up their hands and have the receiver gloves on and whatnot. No wonder they aren't doing as well as they should be. OH, freshman aren't allowed to play football either. Why are boys sooooo stupid?

Monica

em said...

I ask myself that every day.

ellen said...

Ohh, Monica, I hope the boys get better soon! Are you making Tom sleep outside?

Today we were having a picnic snack with my kids at work. Right after getting done talking about how I should clean up some spilled milk right away because bees and bugs will be attracted to it, a bee made it's way up my pants and stung my bottom! I have been stung before, but this was a big surprise. I just started laughing because I was trying really hard not to yell "Ow my butt!" in front of all the kids. They knew I got stung, which they thought was pretty interesting, but it would have made their week (or even month) if they knew where.

c said...

The good thing is, that bee dies.

p.rose said...

Molly, how's the job? Joe, how's it feel to be getting married? Any plans on when or where? Ellen, how's your butt?

joe j said...

It feels great!

We don't have a date set, but we're thinking about a year from now. Early fall 2010. And it will be in Des Moines.

Oh yeah, I made sure the bee died. I pinched it in half through my pants. My butt is a little itchy, thanks for asking.

Ok -

The doctor pretty much told us if we have had a flu, it's the swine flu, which means everyone but Mary has had it.

Mary, however, has poison ivy (according to her doctor) or a staph infection (according to the walk-in clinic doctor)

Between throwing up and skin ailments that spread, the laundry never stops.
