HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONNY!!!

Thought I'd add a photo of Mary's foot, and Donny.

I know he won't see this post, but let's all sing happy birthday at our desks to little Don.

8? Is that how old he is??

These are two things I wanted to say, but didn't want to cloud up Donny's bday wishes.

1: You can all send your bracketology checks here: 1228 Dayton Ave, St. Paul 55104. And you may as well do it now.

2: The tallest man in the world got married yesterday. Don't you find it odd that he's chinese?

We called Donny (this morning) and sung, "Happy Birthday!" We'll call again after-school...Eli and Liam love talking to him. :-)

Donny will be here for a week beginning on Sunday. If you leave a Birthday message...I will share it, with him, when he's here! :-)

Happy birthday little Donny!

Not only is it strange that the tallest man in the world is Chinese, at 5'7" his new wife is taller than me! (Taller than all the Straub girls in fact.)

Pat, thank you!!! You just jinxed yourself, just as Jim did after the first round. Also, need I remind you that I am ahead of you by ten points, you silly girl.

Happy Birfday, Donny. We look forward to seeing you this weekend.

Another item off topic: Wyeth and and Irish drugmaker (Elan) have been spending $100's of millions in R&D dollars towards an Alzhiemers cure. They have been spending so much that the CFO made a statement a couple of weeks ago that they will probably never recoup thier money. But, he added that the company felt the effort was worth it. They have a vaccine in early human test trials.

Now a Japanese scientist has announced that they have developed a vaccine that works in mice.

What once seemed like an inevitability for many may not be so. Let's hope they come up with a cure.

Medical Alert!
Mary Ellan is on her way to the Mason City Hospital (with Mary and Joe) because she broke her left foot! This morning, she was at your folks and walking out to her car and fell. She asked me to post this and ask everyone to say a prayer for her. All things considered, she sounded really good. Poor Mary. :-(

Good Luck Mary.

Sorry Mike. There is no way you can win.

happy birthday wee donnie.

EVERYONE: my mom has broken her ankle. it's a bad break apparently. it happened in G&G's driveway in whittemore. she's on her way to mason city. it's hard to imagine my mom (usually zipping about!) debilitated in any capacity. i just spoke with her and she's in a really peculiar state which i haven't witnessed before. it's shock? she seemed excited but her voice was disquietingly not dynamic. if i had understood the situation better i wd have feigned ignorance of the situation because one with such a charmingly sly character as my mother's surely savors the moment of disclosure of information of this magnitude. so i propose all of you call her soon (402)9686147 but to let her tell you about it. then send her some flowers or something.

Mary may be "in the" running...but, she won't be running! :-<>

Mary Ellan is the mother of Anonymous.

Any news or update for us, Son of ME?

Anonymous said...

Oh, no! Sorry about your foot, Aunt Mary, I hope you feel better soon. You need a scooter. Bright red, with chrome spinner hubcaps and a CD player. And a button that shoots slick oil out the back so you can foil your enemies when they're in pursuit. Like PeeWee's bike.

I talked to Mary about an hour ago and she said she felt fine...never mind the fact that she now has a plate and screws in her ankle...she feels fine!
The doctor said the surgery went well and Mary should be OK.
She wants a walking cast...they sill have not 'cast' her...but I'm sure (knowing my wife) she will get the role that she wants!

Ha! I just came down, per Mary's request, to post that she was doing well and feeling fine on...morphine! Well, I guess it's doin' the trick! :-<> :-)

I haven't looked at the BLOG today until just now...is ME back in Whittemore or still in MC? Let me know as I work Friday and Saturday nighs this week and will go see her if she is still there.

Hey, ME...you looked great on Wednesday night at Sarah's...you'll still look great with a cast...but really, you've got to make up some kick ass story for clients about how you broke it...no one will be the wiser...i.e. you were skiing the professional level slope at resort "X" and happened upon a "blank" that distracted you...

I got a paper cut on my little finger yesterday. It really hurt! I didn't seek medical attention because I wanted doctors to treat other seriously injured persons first. I tied off the injury and gutted my way through the afternoon. I'll just have to tough it out today and make it to the weekend. Mary and I both appreciate your calls, cards, letters, and checks.

I was experiencing some serious chaffing yesterday. Against my staff's pleading I too, gutted it out. I hope today will not be such a stuggle...but if so, struggle on I will.

I spoke with Mary Ellan a few minutes ago. She sounds good, but tired, and is being discharged late this afternoon and going to Whittemore. She said she has seven screws and a plate in her foot, so this was no simple fracture. She thinks she is going to stay in Whittemore at the one story house for a few days before heading back to Omaha and tackling the steps/stairs at home.

I think this means she is going to set off metal detectors at airports for the rest of her life!

About my "tummy ache". I was told by one of the nurses that the pain I went through was beyond childbirth.

So no woman can lord over me the pain of child birth. HA!

Tom

P. Rose said...

How did she know? Did she have the same thing you had? Did you say you would have killed yourself if you didn't have kids, that it was that bad?

Anonymous said...

When they were wheeling me into surgery I was so happy because I knew the pain would soon be over because they would either find the problem and fix it...(they didn't know what was wrong until they opened me up)...or I would be dead. In either case I was happy that the pain would end.

Yes, it hurt. BAAAAAAAAAAAD.

When I got a kidney stone for the second time I almost started crying bc I knew what was coming. In terms of pain I mean.

But I waited and didn't cry until I got to the hospital - because they tried a medication on me that works for MOST PEOPLE but not everyone. And I was the not everyone.

My last two have been in July. So I'm steeling myself for this July.

Mary's foot is so swollen in that photo it looks like it could burst. The best part of the story is crawling with a usless limb to up the deck to try to ring the doorbell to summon senior citizen parents.

And Desy, I agree completely with your description of your mom's demeanor.

This is going to make her crazy. Poor Mike.

How's the papercut, Joe?

would anyone like to hear about my chafing?

Tom

P. Rose said...

That's not really mary's foot by the way.

Kelli, do you have an email address?

Joe - I hope you don't mind my breaking the news. I assume you are enduring the agonizing paper cut and have simply forgot to mention:

A moment of silence, please, for Pancake. A loyal and loving hound whose destiny (by virtue of his name) was met a couple of nights ago . It occured on the River Road.

I am told that Betty is very sad.

Before the crawling back to the back door (in her new pantsuit, in the rain!) ME said her foot was pointing in the wrong direction so she "popped it back but the bone was still sticking out" (not through the skin) and then she crawled back. EEEEEEE! She can't let her foot touch the ground for 6 to 8 weeks. She's going to stay a few days at Mom & Dad's till she gets used to using crutches before she tackles the seventeen steps up to her house. She also sheared acouple tendons.

Anonymous said...

She said she was very concerned about ruining her new pants so she rolled them up above her knees before she started her crawl. What a warrior.

P. Rose said...

That last detail is the best. Rolling up her new pants.
AND TODAY is their anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Mary and Mike! Have some morphine, Mary! Have some champagne, Mike!

Poor Mary and Pancake!

I hope you're feeling okay soon Mary! Good Luck

Buddy seemed to "get hit" by a 40 mph moving car last weekend, but apparently just bounced off it, or ran into the side. He's totally fine, but did make a trip to the doggie emergency room. Don't make fun for spending the extra money on a dog, it's my child.

Mary, I am so sorry about your foot. Just when the weather is starting to get great, too. I know you'll be a quick healer.

Happy Birthday Donny!!!

By the way everyone, Midwest Express once again has direct flights from Omaha to LAX, starting at about $210. So, who wants to come?

Anonymous said...

We'll send the boys! :-<> :-)

Anonymous said...

You can send the boys if you want. Really. We can take them to the beach and Disneyland or Sea World or something. Or better yet, you can ALL come!

Hello...hello, thanks for all the words of encouragement! Crutches suck! My armpits hurt already! I do have great pain meds...and we did go to Sarah's for "Friday Night All You Can Eat Shrimp" with Mike, Mom and Dad and Joe and Betty (with friend) and we visited with Tom...it was delicious. And, only one step plus a carport...priceless. I'm not having any 2 for 1 specials though! Mom and Dad have been VERY helpful, and now Mike is here!

Anonymous said...

Mary, how high up does your cast go? It'll be interesting to see how hairy your leg will get.
Best of luck to both you and Mike.
Put a mattress on your family room floor and have Mike fetch all your clothes so you don't have to tackle the stairs.

Thank you to you, Mike,Cathy and Steve for airport rides and overnight accomidations. Florida was wonderful.

That's Accmodations-I think.
