I wish I'd get one of these tickets. I'd frame it.
Tainted: I recently ran into a restaurant to get my take-out order in St. Paul. I returned to my car to find a yellow parking violation sticker on my windshield. The fake ticket included my vehicle information and time and date on it. My car was legally parked in a designated parking space; however I seemed to have offended someone. The ticket proceeds to state that I am inconsiderate, rude and lame because of how I parked my car. The ticket continues to insult me regarding other driving practices and then finishes up with wishing that my engine blows up during rush hour on my birthday. What type of people drive around with this kind of form with them and have such an overwhelming desire to offend even strangers? The whole point of the ticket was not to enlighten me about parking laws, but to insult and berate me. This speaks loudly about the integrity and morality of the ticket writer. Seasons Greetings!
tonight i'll go out to dinner with some friends. then a bar for a while. there is an 80's hair metal band playing at the Dry Bean that we might go laugh at. they're called Cherry Pie. delicious.
A bon voyage for mom and dad and a merry christmas to grace and ryan, it was very elegant, fancy dishes and beautiful stemware, lots of great food and drink!...nance, where were you guys last night for the goodbye dinner? Mom and Dad missed saying goodbye...we missed you...Is Sarah's gonna be open for the new year's eve? You could just do the bar...no food...offer dollar draws!
Just wondered if you were gonna be open on a Sunday...Mike and kids don't live in Algona, they attended the dinner last night.
Don't know if it's on the blog anywhere, but thanks to Josh for making an unscheduled trip...L.D. was excited to drive with you...did he make any comments about your boiler?
Mom and Dad are leaving just in time... or, maybe a bit late! It's snowing and sleeting here...they're at the airport, and their flight is delayed 1/2 an hour, so that only gives them 30 minutes to change in Chicago, then on to DC where flights are also delayed...they should be in their condo by 10pm to ring in the New Year, if all goes well...but it doesn't look good!
It's a winter wonderland in beautiful Algona, Iowa. It rained all night and then, turned to sleet and now it's snowing with a projected accumulation of 5 inches+. We would be super excited about it...but, tonight is, usually, our busiest night of the year. I hope the good people of Algona are feeling adventurous! :-<>
Dad and Mom just called from Chicago, they landed 2 hours late from Omaha, so they are changing to direct flights to WestPB...should land around 10:30, they'll get to the condo in time to toast the new year! They're at O'Hare till 6pm (if anyone's close).
Happy Birthday, Frank! You cool, Madison Cat, you.
Happy Birthday, Deb! Good to see you at Christmas! Hope you have a great year!
Cathy has 24 (yes, 24) place settings of snowman china with all the serving pieces! Actually it may be more appropriate to call it Steve's china since he's the one who picked it out and bought it. It was fun at their house... soup / sandwich and salad buffet ... all the Jayjacks were there (Gracie drove 8 hours to be there then all the Ortegas left right away the next morning in order to get ahead of the storm) and it was very nice.
Hope the rest of you were able to have a great start to your new year.
Mary Laurel slipped on the ice this morning then wanted an ice pac to put on her wounded hip!
Very happy belated birthday, Frank and Deb. Hopefully you're still celebrating. Frank, I'll send you all my info sometime today. And Molly's. The rest of you kids are on your own. Send your stuff to Frank. We saw "The Good Shepherd" last night. Good movie. Someone in the parish gave me a movie gift certificate for Christmas and I have a whole list...Stevo wants to see the new Rocky movie and I told him about the Philly steak sandwich requirement. He's all over it - so much for New Year's resolutions.
Hey Jim, I sent you an email with this message but it was denied. We didn't know where to send your xmas gift from Josh so we brought it to Whittemore with us. There were a few gifts there for your family so we left it with them. Perhaps you can have another Christmas in March? P
Funny story: The other night we all went to the movie, "Night at the Museum." During the previews there was an ad for some movie coming up with Steve Carrel(sp?)in it. Meanwhile, Eli was complaining about having to share an arm rest with me and I replied,"Yah...someday when you're like 38...you won't mind sharing an arm rest with a girly girl." He said, "Uh uh..." I said, "Okay then...when you're 40." He said, "No way Mom...I'm not gonna wait that long. I don't want to turn out like that 40 year old virgin guy!" He laughed, aloud, to himself and I sat wondering...hmm.
Yah know...Eli doesn't know about the, "birds and bees,"...yet. However, he absolutely identifies the word *VIRGIN* with something that he wants nothing to with! Ha, ha.
I could be wrong but I think it's been since 1994 since we won a bowl game!
Charlie really needs to work on defense. I love it that he has the go for it attitude on offense, but sometimes he needs to pick a different it to go for.
I was tired and went to bed. When I am falling asleep in front of the tv only to watch ND loose, there is no point in staying.
We missed the first quarter of the game which was the only good part of it, I guess. Ouch. My resolution is to be less lazy and to procrastinate less. I'm going to start any day now...
"Night at the Museum, " was absolutely fabulous. Very interesting, wholesome, super funny, wonderful message and totally a, "feel good," and invigorating movie to watch. We will, without a doubt, buy it when it comes out! ;-)
ND has been giving up a lot of points to not so good teams all season. I really had a bad feeling about this game. I actually had a dream last night that for some reason they kept playing for like two more quarters and the final score was 81-17.
If you need to be cheered up, those of you who played Trivial Pursuit at Christmas should think of Joe K. singing the Bohemian Rhapsody to Mary E. as she was asleep in her chair. And Mary wakes up as a big table full of people are staring at her and roaring with laughter, many with tears in their eyes, and she mumbles, "I was thinking about a business meeting... What?" That's what I think about when I'm sad. Thanks Joe K. and sorry Mary.
I just cleaned out my pencil cups. I didn't procrastinate at all. One is all Sharpies and the other is everything else and I threw out all the pens that don't work and sharpened all the pencils. I'm exhausted.
Fly from MPLS to WPB Jan.31-Feb.4 on United for $261 per person, tax included. That's $1044. That's the best I've found so far. Found it on cheaptickets.com.
Em~ It appears as though we will be purchasing an $8000 heating unit this year instead of going to Florida. :-( Oh well, maybe in 2008! :-) Thanks anyway.
$8000. ooohh no insurance money? Oh well, it sort of is a practice run for college!!!Monica, I too resolved to cook more...but, I now have 2 day old tilapia and Mike wants the steak I bought 3 days ago!
Here'san interesting thing: I get these business-card-sized refrigerator magnets as part of the 1st communion curriculum to hold posters the kids fill in gradually as part of their preparation. So I bundled the leftover magnets and wrapped them with a rubber band. I just realized today that for the third time in about 4 months, I have had to replace the rubber band because it got all brittle and broke. Does magnetism decrease elasticity? Can we keep the universe from flying apart with magnets or will everything become brittle and shatter? What are the implications vis-a-vis skin care and aging? Or is it just luck - that out of a whole box of assorted rubber bands I just happened to pull out three ancient ones destined for disintegration? I'll put on a stretchy new one and keep watch.
Dut to the nature of my work...I go through many a rubber band in a day. 8 out of 10 snap apart in my hot little hands. It's just one of the, many, dangers of my job.
They tend to slipsideways (like a deck of cards being fanned) and not stay stacked in the neat little pile my peace of mind requires. But good question. Maybe my next experiment after the box of rubber bands spontaneously disintegrates should be to casually toss them as a unit into a desk drawer unbound and see what happens, but just the thought makes me uncomfortable.

Happy Birthday Francois and Deb! I hope you both have fun on your birthday.
Frank, Happy Day. What are you going to do tonight? Or, is a James Bond party enough fun for two nights?
Do you feel old?

what happened with Don and his court date?
Two goodbye parties. I've never had two goodbye parties in my honor, unless they happened after I was gone, to celebrate my leaving.

The snow is REALLY coming down here, too!
We had no romantique plans. Joe worked and came home tired. We had sloppy joe's and tater tots. We will go out at a later date
Happy Belated Bithday Frank and Deb!
Ellen had 8 friends over last night after a New Years Eve party at another house. They were still up when Joe was leaving for work at 7:30.
So, Nebraskans, are you starting the day with a little cocktail? Game time in 5 minutes.

The Huskers are playing surprising well even with the two turnovers.
They certainly are.
still waiting on addresses, emails and phone numbers from people. new mailing list... we all want it...
Did the wintry weather keep the revelers away from Sarahs?
We had an, "okay," night. Not awesome...not terrible. Coulda been better had the weather not been so bad. Oh well, that's the restaurant business. :-)
Frank what's your email address?
fstraub@tds.net
even if you think i have it, send your info anyway.
Ok - I'm late.
Happy Birthday, Frank! You cool, Madison Cat, you.

OH and I almost forgot... happy anniversary, Monica and Joe! HOw long have you been married?
One more year. One more year at this job.
Very happy belated birthday, Frank and Deb. Hopefully you're still celebrating.

anyone make any new years resolutions? i resolved not to be so apathetic and take charge of my life. but it seems like too much work, so forget it.
Nance, that story is hilarious.
I'm wondering who the apathetic anon is?
My resolutions are boring: eat better, exercise more, etc.
just got home. my heat is out. maybe until Friday. great.
wow. lots of heater problems this winter. good thing it's not a fierce one.

Yah know...Eli doesn't know about the, "birds and bees,"...yet. However, he absolutely identifies the word *VIRGIN* with something that he wants nothing to with! Ha, ha.
We saw Little Miss Sunshine this week. Pretty funny.
"Night at the Museum" was awesome! Haven't heard of "Little Miss Sunshine."
That game was embarrassing.
p
all in all a crappy night.
Terrible is right! What happened to the defense??? And the offense...How long has it been since we won a bowl game?
Saw "Little Miss Sunshine" in the theatre, now a rental...it's such a GOOD movie...not for kids.
I could be wrong but I think it's been since 1994 since we won a bowl game!

A car went off the cliff at Lookout Point in CB...maybe they had been watching the ND game!
We missed the first quarter of the game which was the only good part of it, I guess. Ouch.

How was "Night at the Museum?" I want to take the kids.

i forgot about that. that was hilarious.
I've been thinking about when Mary put the pot over her head, Joe K. hit it, then she sang into a potato masher, "I'm a dance freaker!"
I just cleaned out my pencil cups. I didn't procrastinate at all. One is all Sharpies and the other is everything else and I threw out all the pens that don't work and sharpened all the pencils. I'm exhausted.
Even with all that, nobody put any money in my viloin case!
Mike tells the Joe K and me at the table story to all our friends, it's still making people laugh!
HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYBODY!!
